Spaceflight start-up, SpaceX – those guys who want to put a person on Mars in the next decade or two – has been demonstrating the potency of its SuperDraco rockets at their test facility in Texas. Take a look at the fancily-named rockets in action after the jump.
I’m not entirely sure I care that this is just some publicity stunt for a mediocre-to-bad “found footage” film about super heroes. This is awesome advertising. Click through to see how 20th Century Fox teamed up with Thinkmodo for their unusual viral promotion for the upcoming Chronicle.
As the world anxiously awaits the release of Ten$ion, the next Die Antwoord album, check out this timely reminder, via a homage to the enfants terribles of Afrikaans hardcore, that gingers are people too.
Whoops. Looks like somewhere between Eric Schmidt and Larry Page, Google forgot their ‘don’t be evil’ rule and turned into the creepy uncle of the internet. Well, the other creepy uncle of the internet. It now follows users’ activities across YouTube, Gmail, Google Plus and Google Search, among others. Everybody, clear your history.
Members of “hacktivist” group Anonymous have denied that they’re planning an attack on Facebook, in spite of a video claiming to speak for the group that has declared that the social network will be brought down on January 28th. This would be the second fake Anonymous threat in some months.
Start your Tuesday the way your forefathers did, with an amazing time-lapse video of the International Space Station passing over a storm-struck African continent with the Milky Way popping in to say hello in the background. Also visible is Comet Lovejoy, two weeks after its near-fatal sunburn. Please, go look. You’ll feel better about being up.
Alright. Yes. Pairing your product with an attractive woman is not exactly an original advertising tactic, and if anything the world could do with a little less of that. But because this happens to be a Brazilian TV ad for a language school, and a funny one, we can put these concerns momentarily aside.
If you haven’t seen Moneyball with Brad Pitt yet, please grow up. It’s a stunning flick and gives you 100% full-blown Brad Pitt, as he plays famous baseball GM, Billy Beane, alongside the brilliantly overweight Jonah Hill of Superbad fame (great in Cyrus with Marisa Tomei, by the way). Brad also continues his habit of […]
There have been plenty of tech announcements over the past few days, what with the Consumer Electronics Show going on in Las Vegas, each one claiming to be more exciting than the last – which gets tedious. So I mean it when I say that, Samsung’s new “Smart Window” is the most exciting thing to come out of CES 2012.
Every year the world waits in anticipation for Ricky Gervais’ sharp tongue as he takes to the stage of the annual Golden Globes awards. Traditionally Ricky rips apart the biggest names in Hollywood, to a point where nothing seems sacred. This year was no different. Follow the link to watch the video of Ricky’s monologue..
It’s nice that companies are willing to go to insane lengths to try and make us buy their things. Take G-Form, who wrapped up an Apple tablet in their ‘Extreme Edge’ case, and launched it into space on a weather balloon before dropping it back to earth to prove how extreme their case really is.
IBM have released their annual predictions for the future of technology, via the IBM “5 in 5” project, which looks at five innovations which they figure will transform modern life within the next five years; these include mind-reading computers, human-generated electricity, and biometric scanning replacing passwords.
I found myself in London the weekend before last, attending my first “press junket.” It was for the remake of the Swedish film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. Rooney Mara is the girl at the beginning of The Social Network, who breaks up with Mark Zuckerberg. She basically […]
That’s just one of the facts I gleaned from the new Rustenburg Girls High School promotional video which has just hit the net – you might want to have a peep. Besides from the school’s excellent educational offering and facilities, I was more impressed with the head-girl, who completely owns the camera. Her delivery was […]
Steal Banksy from Art Series Hotels on Vimeo.
The Melbourne-based Art Series Hotel chain is holding an art-stealing competition, starting this Thursday. For the next month, a signed print of Banksy’s “No Ball Games,” worth ZAR 125 500, will be hidden in different locations throughout the chain’s hotels. If people can find and steal it without getting caught, they get to keep it.
Santacon is a thing that happens in San Francisco every year; people dress up as Santa Claus and get very drunk. Public nudity is also legal in SF. So it makes sense for this year’s Santacon to have been an attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of naked Santas ever.
Hello, future. A group of autonomous flying robots – “quadcopters”- have been used in an installation by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology to construct a six metre tall tower out of 1 500 foam bricks. The robots are completely autonomous, with a networked computer vision system directing the placement of the bricks.
Nearly 10 000 people dressed up in zombie gore and wandered through Mexico City this weekend, in a bid to set the new world record for zombie walks, which is a thing. Once verified by Guinness, the walk will blaze past the previous record of 4 093 zombies, set in New Jersey last year.
Please enjoy this video taken on a London tram, showing a charming young English woman ranting and raving about ethnic minorities sharing the train with her and how they are ruining Britain – all while her son sits on her lap. Having spent three years living in London, this video comes as no surprise. These […]
A couple of “Natty Light” enthusiasts approached the brewer, Natural Ice with the idea to make the mediocre frat-house beer slightly more remarkable by making it the first to be sent into space. Their spacecraft’ was a styrofoam cooler, a GPS tracking device, and an HD camera, launched into space with a weather balloon last week.
This beaut of an ad hit TV screens across the country on Monday this week. We know how many of you are living your life in the future, with US iTunes accounts and Apple TVs and iPads etc. so you might have missed it. Check it out – classic Jack Daniel’s!
I feel a little bad for Widen + Kennedy, Old Spice’s advertising agency; everything they’ve done since introducing Isaiah Mustafa as the Old Spice Guy has been subject to comparison, not always fairly. Which is a pity, because they’re killing it here with their new “Smell Better Than Yourself” campaign. Check out the video, after the jump.
At 2am this morning the NYPD started violently clearing out Zuccoti Park, where the peaceful Occupy Wall Street protestors have been camped out. The cops are using pepper spray, they are using LRAD sound weapons, and they are actively preventing any official media from reporting on their violation of OWS members’ constitutional rights. Shit’s gotten real.
Nokia has released a concept video for their new HumanForm phone – which isn’t so much human-shaped as it is oblong. What’s interesting about it is that the casing is meant to be flexible, and the entire surface is meant to run off of touch recognition, which is fairly rad.
Conan O’Brien returned to New York last week for the first time since his falling out with the NBC – not only to rub his recent success in his former employers’ collective faces, but also to preside over the first same-sex marriage performed on late-night television. Because I guess that’s worth making a big deal over.
Hoo. Santa Cruz surfer Barbara Roettger got way up close and personal with a pod of humpback whales when she unwittingly found herself in the middle of a lunge feeding session; two massive whales popped up right next to the surfer and her kayak friends, seemingly out of nowhere. It’s pretty rad.
Jordy Smith (who recently signed with Buchulife) and Dusty Payne in Round 1 of the Rip Curl Pro Search in San Francisco get scared out of the water by a big shark. I think his name was Bruce. Follow the link to check it out. Video contains bonus footage of Jordy dancing and singing “Staying […]
This is pretty badass – footage of a Gauteng biker assessing a motorcycle rally course for the Amageza Challenge and taking a short detour midway through to save a calf drowning in a nearby canal. In the event that you’ve grown tired of Gaddafi footage, and would like to watch something awesome instead.
It turns out publishing classified diplomatic files online isn’t all that lucrative! Whistle blowing site, WikiLeaks has announced that they’re pausing their publishing process to concentrate on raising funds. Julian Assange claims that the financial “blockade” mounted by Visa, MasterCard and other companies, has forced Wikileaks to “temporarily suspend its publishing operations and aggressively fundraise.”
Microsoft has been on a fancy-user-interface-technology kick this week, between the fancy touch-screen projectors and electronic fabric announcements – but the Holodesk sort of wins at the moment, at least for those of us who think 3D environments you can manipulate with your hands are cool.
