The ‘District 9’ duo has teamed up again, releasing another short film focused on the Almighty. This time, He is deciding whether or not he wants to help out.
A Capetonian filmmaker has beaten hundreds of screenwriters and directors in an international short film competition. The prize? Allan Shelley is now on his way to Los Angeles to film his movie, with Oscar winner Kevin Spacey as part of the cast. Then he’ll bring Kevin back here to help him promote the film.
There’s just no stopping our local filmmakers abroad! Take Mister Brent Rumble for example – not only was his short film, The Dissolution, scripted and made in a mere 10 days, but it has also won an award at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival. With Charlize Theron and District 9 getting all the sunshine, I think we tend to forget that there are thousands of South Africans globally doing sick things. Like Ari Kruger – his short film, Focus was chosen as one of the finalists of Australia’s Tropfest 2011. This is the biggest short film festival in the world, and what’s more impressive is that Ari’s film was the only non-Australian film on the list. High five!
