Earlier this month we told you about National Geographic shooting a shark documentary in Cape Town – with the support of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism. But yesterday Dirk Schmidt, author of “White Sharks”, has called for the immediate issuing of a high shark alert – saying the filming is attracting sharks to Cape Town’s popular beaches.
No shark cage, spear guns or knives. Just cameras. That’s how photographer William Winram rolls. His business card reads “Shark Publicist”, and he is on a quest to debunk the bad reputation that sharks have gained. With these incredible images he wants to show that our natural fear has been blown far out of proportion due to a couple of unfortunate accidents.
The crew of National Geographic Channel’s hit series Shark Men announced this past Friday that they had broken the previous record for the biggest Great White Shark ever caught and released alive. They exhibited their capture on Sunday night on the US version of the show. We’ll unfortunately have to wait a bit to see it over here in Africa.
