Following the EFF’s recent violent protest both outside and inside the Gauteng legislature they have come under increased scrutiny. Their defiant attitude has reached a whole new level and their actions are disturbing when compared to other groups who have staged similar protests… like Boko Haram.
We all knew Malema in parliament was going to cause a great deal of drama and liven proceedings up somewhat, but this is taking things to a bit of an extreme. Tear gas and stun grenades? Way to cause a scene Julius.
Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema clashed head-on with the rules of Parliament when delivering his maiden speech on Wednesday afternoon.
The EFF definitely stood out from the crowd as they donned their own brand or traditional regalia. This is one way to make a statement…
Honourable readers, we all know it is important to know what it is our government has said they’ll do so we can hold them accountable, but good gracious was it long winded and soporific! Anything really get you riled up?
Zuma reveals his new cabinet, with a few surprises in tow.

The SA parliament has presented a bill to legalize cannabis for medical, economic and industrial purposes. IFP MP Mario Oriani-Ambrosini made an emotional speech, urging the bill to be passed. Oriani-Ambrosini admitted that he uses marijuana for medical reasons. According to the MP, he wouldn’t be able to stand in front of parliament without it.
Stay the hell out of the city centre unless you own a jet back, a teleporter, or a very small helicopter. The road closures for the annual opening of Parliament are a total gang bang. What a terrible day. The details are below.
2013 has been the year of online petitions. Whether they have any effect besides voicing the displeasure, is up for debate. Nevertheless, what may well be the last viral South African petition of 2013 is currently in blossom, and it’s calling for Parliament to impeach Jacob Zuma. The petition calls for the impeachment of Zuma […]

In a world filled with so much corruption, we love finding a report where our own members of parliament honestly declare all that they have received. Sort of. Feast your eyes on the weird array of gifts declared by our Members Of Parliament in the Register of Members’ Interests 2012. While more than a handful […]
Following the death of 34 people (and 78 injured) at Lonmin’s Marikana mine in North West, a special debate was held yesterday in Parliament. But what occurred instead was basically mudslinging and name-calling between different political parties. It got so worse that Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu lost her temper, and told MPs to “shut up”. She was later made to withdraw the comment.
This is not a pleasant statistic to read, especially the day before Madiba’s birthday. The Special Investigations Unit (then the Scorpions, now the Hawks), in conjunction with the South African Security Agency, have revealed that the numbers for corruption are far higher than they should be.
Violence broke out yesterday in the Ukrainian parliament, with fists flying all over the place. The cause? Disagreements over a bill that would allow the use of the Russian language in courts, hospitals and other institutions in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine. Check out all the huffing and puffing after the jump.

Recently, the ANC released a wad of discussion documents that will lead the various policy discussions at its upcoming National Electoral Conference this year. One of them outlines a startling plan to reshuffle and re-organise South Africa’s provinces to “ensure more functionality, economic viability and racial/ethnic integration”. So what exactly does that mean?
Capetonians: it’s that time of the year again when the City of Cape Town closes many of its roads for the opening of Parliament. As part of the pompous affair and fashion extravaganza, President Jacob Zuma will also deliver his all-important State of the Nation Address.
Late yesterday, the DA’s leader in Parliament, Lindiwe Mazibuko, released the names of her new DA shadow cabinet to the press, continuing the DA’s rather weird tradition of maintaining such a unit in South Africa’s rather one-sided political system. We’ve got the new cast of the DA Show in Parliament, after the jump.
It seems we aren’t the only ones who had some action in parliament yesterday. South Korea’s ruling party has ratified a controversial free trade deal with the United States. But just before they did that an opposition MP set off and threw a teargas device at the speaker, briefly clearing the chamber.
Protestors wearing black gather outside Parliament in Cape Town on Tuesday, to voice their dissent against the proposed Protection Of Information Bill. Inside Parliament, MP’s gathered to vote on the matter. Coverage of opposition to the POIB was trending on Twitter under the hashtag, #BlackTuesday. Nothing was trending on Facebook. Because nothing trends on Facebook. […]
Philip Hammond, Liam Fox’s replacement as the UK’s Defence Secretary, announced to MPs that ground-to-air missiles would be deployed “to protect” the 2012 Olympic Games in London if deemed operationally necessary. This follows shortly after America announced intentions to send up to 1 000 security agents to provide protection for US contestants and diplomats.
The upstart German Pirate Party took just under 9% of the electoral vote in Sunday’s Berlin elections, winning 15 seats in the 149-seat state parliament. For the most part, they’ve been campaigning on a platform of free Wi-Fi, free public transportation, and a lower voting age. Just like real pirates.
Czech it out. Eastern Europe is blessed with public servants who not only do their job, but look great doing it. Good grief. Members of the Public Affairs party will feature in a 2011 charity calendar posing provocatively in revealing outfits. The party’s racy calendar comes after a record 44 women were voted into the […]
