“The simple fact is you feel responsible for Goose and you have a confidence problem. Now I’m not gonna sit here and blow sunshine up your ass, Lieutenant. A good pilot is compelled to evaluate what’s happened, so he can apply what he’s learned. Up there, we gotta push it. That’s our job. It’s your […]
The city of Seattle is home to a prolific self-appointed, and self-styled, crime-fighter. In the manner of Batman (or teen superhero, Kickass), the man who calls himself Phoenix Jones wears a black and yellow mask and a muscle bodysuit, and actually has a side-kick called “Ghost”. Unfortunately, Phoenix was arrested on Sunday for assaulting several people with pepper spray.
2 December sees the South African release of Real Steel, featuring Hugh Jackman. It is about boxing, but instead of humans we are talking robots in the fighting ring! We can bring you the very first South African look at images from this “gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future.” You are welcome.
Well, I’m told Cars 2 was a little awful, breaking Pixar’s long-running streak of critical acclaim – but I’m willing to write that off as a fluke, because the Brave trailer looks pretty great. Please. Click through. Watch Pixar’s first female protagonist fight a bear at Stone Henge.
German actress Antje Traue has been cast as ‘Faora,’ villainous accomplice to the no-less-ridiculous-sounding Zod in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman reboot. Since we’re now assured at least one slow-motion high-definition Traue scene, the reboot might be worth looking at, Snyder notwithstanding.
Well hello there, movie trailer. You’re looking pretty fine. What’s that? You’re a trailer for The Hangover: Part II? Well I guess that’s pretty — and you’re the first full length trailer? Oh, you’re a tease. That’s what you are. I guess that pretty much takes care of the rest of my Friday.

Take us to your leader. We come in peace. ET phone home. They don’t say much, but they sure know how to get to the point! ‘The X-Files’ knew “The Truth Is Out There” with dramatised cases of real government conspiracies and where there’s smoke, there’s a smouldering alien spacecraft. Don’t just take it from […]
By now you will be well aware of the letter Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron sent to Ross Garland, the producer of Spud the Movie, based on John van de Ruit’s highly successful novel, Spud. Digital drones, light cycles, frisbee wars, skin tight body suits and daddy issues… welcome to the playground of TRON. It may sound like an ordinary day at the park, but it’s not. TRON: Legacy is the long-awaited remake/sequel/mash-up of the original TRON (1982). Jeff Bridges returns to play an older Kevin Flynn and a much […]
Due Date is delivered to screen by Todd Phillips, who is the quintessential frat house comedy director with The Hangover, Road Trip, Old School under his belt and The Hangover Part II in the works. If it were a baby, it’d be a poison dwarf: ginger-bearded, brutally funny and pretty darn mean. However, it’s not […]
Stallone surprised us when he resurrected Rocky with Rocky Balboa, stunned us when he tied the red hair band on for John Rambo and nearly killed himself trying to make The Expendables. Broken neck aside… Stallone pulled it off – he made us believe…
A quick note from Spling: “I walked into the cinema without any preconceived bias… armed with only TWO facts: the film was called The Bad Lieutenant and starred Nicolas Cage. I’d like to preface this movie review by saying that I am a big fan of Nicolas Cage as an indie and commercial actor and […]
Grindhouse, a double bill featuring Deathproof and Planet Terror, was created as a tribute to the lost genre of exploitation films as made famous by single screen theatres across America in the ’70s. Sleaze, porn, slashers and martial arts flicks were the rage back then and this was the era that directors like…
A very cool human being by the name of Jesse Rosten has made a pretty darn fantastic short film celebrating the beautiful things that happen when two of humankind’s great innovations (the iPad, and Velcro) meet. In a few years time, when touch computer interfaces are on every shiny surface in our house, we might […]
So the poster for 50 Cent’s new movie is out. Before I say anything, I think it’s best if you just bask in its glory. It’s almost too beautiful for words. I’m having trouble breathing. “One gun, many lives lost.” GUN. Like, singular, right? You think maybe the one on the left is called Gun, […]
