The bodies of two climbers were discovered at the foot of the north face of Matterhorn last week after they failed to return to the Hornli hut — the traditional start/end point to the popular route on the Swiss side of the 4,478m peak.
K2 is widely considered one of the hardest peaks in mountaineering and as of February 2021, some 377 people had summited the mountain while 91 died trying – a ratio of one death for every four successful climbs.
Mountaineers have left the Himalayas in absolute shambles, with a few peaks turned into gigantic rubbish dumps.
