We were mucking about with the new SA bank notes yesterday and noticed that the reserve bank seemingly purposefully lined up Mandela’s eyes on the one side, with the lion’s eyes on the other. They have the same distance between the eyes and are exactly aligned. Hold it up to the light and it looks very cool. Pics inside..
As far as owning a piece of history goes, this prison cell door, from Robben Island – the institution infamous for the incarceration Nelson Mandela – is about as good as it gets. The cell door is still in the same condition it was when it was removed in 1996, and may even have imprisoned Mandela himself!
