Spend 155 minutes trapped inside the disturbed mind of a serial killer in Lars von Trier’s latest offering, ‘The House That Jack Built’.
Danish director Lars von Trier isn’t afraid to ruffle feathers, but even by his standards ‘The House That Jack Built’ is pushing the envelope.
Danish film director Lars Von Trier has a hard time compromising his vision, so it comes as no surprise that Von Trier’s most recent endeavour ‘Nymphomaniac’ is five hours long. The movie follows a sex addict named Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) throughout eight chapters, vividly detailing her sexual journey using porn stars as body doubles for scenes of unstimulated sex. Selected press got their hands on an abridged and censored four hour version, and although it’s too early to say, it seems to be faring well, with The Telegraph’s Tim Robey giving it four out of five stars.
Anyone who likes their cinema experience to be slightly more challenging than the conventional would have heard of Danish film maker, Lars von Trier. But instead of challenging the crowd with his latest film, Melancholia, starring Kirsten Dunst, it was his attempt at satire during a press conference that has now earned him the title of “persona non grata” at this prestigious festival.
