The Western Cape High Court has granted an urgent interdict stopping the City from evicting people who illegally occupied land during the lockdown.
With a lockdown moratorium having been placed on the demolition of informal structures, as well as any evictions from occupied homes, syndicates are moving in.
The City of Cape Town’s mayor, Dan Plato, says that land invasions “pose a serious threat to service delivery and housing opportunities”, which is why the City is looking at introducing new laws.
