Kingsman: The Secret Service is a Matthew Vaughn movie. He may sound like a dependable English cricketer, but the film-maker has made a name for himself in Hollywood on the back of producing, writing and directing films like Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and now Kingsman: The Secret Service.
Kick-Ass was unabashedly proud of its pick ‘n mix of genres and brew of violence, youth-centric flair and cult cool class – borrowing aspects from better action, crime and superhero films. Not all that much has changed in Kick-Ass 2, in fact, one of its main criticisms is that it’s more of the same.
So. ‘Phoenix Jones,’ some dude in Seattle who wears a cape/mask outfit and stops crime with a stun gun and fists got his nose broken over the weekend after trying to stop a night-time brawl. Surprise! Local police have advised Jones and the rest of his super-team (‘Red Dragon’ & ‘Buster Joe’) to stop getting involved in dangerous situations.
