SABC Radio and The New Age newspaper have reported that Julius Malema’s expulsion from the ANC has been upheld. As from today, 24 April 2012, Julius Malema is no longer a card-carrying member of the ANC, and holds no office in the party, or any of it’s organs.
Julius Malema’s fall from the graces of his ANC handlers seems to have eroded much more than his political riches. The Beeld newspaper reported that Malema was allegedly unable to settle debt of R400 000 owed to his building contractor at the end of March, after which the company decided to transfer its workers to another project in Bedfordview. See more, after the jump.
Not even the most token of attempts was made by the ANCYL to wish President Jacob Zuma well for his 70th birthday yesterday. This was in stark contrast to the lengthy statements the league released last year to honour the birthdays of Nelson Mandela, Zuma’s deputy, Kgalema Motlanthe and ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Two weeks ago we gleefully reported on the debut of Grade 11 Johannesburger, Jonathan Ovadia, who was introduced as protégé to troubled ANCYL head, Julius Malema. But while his mentor lip sync’s for his political life, Jonathan has his own problems, including threatening the press via SMS. More of this Celebrity Apprentice mayhem, after the jump!
The ANC National Disciplinary Committee have announced that Julius Malema has been summarily suspended from the party and all his responsibilities there, following comments he made last week at a lecture where he labelled President Zuma a “dictator”. Except isn’t he already suspended? Join us as we try untie this new craziness, after the jump!
Things have moved pretty quickly for Jonathan Ovadia, I’m sure. Following the announcement by Malema this weekend that he (Ovadia) had become Malema’s protégé, the media have been all over him – as his interests, education and background were investigated and reported. News24 confirmed via Ovadia’s Facebook page, that he went to King David High […]
As the ANC’s leadership conference draws ever nearer, it would seem that ol’ Julius is still not able to keep his mouth shut, somehow desperately clinging on to the illusion that he is still relevant. He was speaking at a public rally in Kimberley yesterday.
The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans’ Association (MKMVA) has kicked up quite a bit of dust over a statement they’ve made about Julius Malema. They say that if this was still the struggle era, Malema would have been killed by a firing squad for “the way in which he was rude to the ANC leadership.” See the ANCYL’s response after the jump.
In the very same interview on SABC last night (covered in the Morning Spice here), in which Julius Malema asked the ANC for forgiveness, he has also called for heavier regulation of our media. Malema alleges that the media is what is destroying democracy in South Africa. A bit of a silly accusation if you ask me. More of his rant, inside.
Good work, guys. Good work. [Thanks, Mike!]
Julius Malema has responded to his expulsion from the ANC, saying he accepts the decision even though he has done nothing wrong to deserve it. He also wore sunglasses at night, blamed the media for making him look bad in front of the ANC, and pulled off some awesome dance moves! See the video after the jump.
Last night saw the expulsion of Julius Malema, along with some of his brothers-in-arms, from the ANC. Now might be a good time to sit back and reflect on this prophetic Nando’s poster, released in November last year, that now rings truer than ever. The headline reads: “Juju, you’ve been served.” While the body copy […]
[Update:] Julius Malema has been expelled from the ANC. The National Disciplinary Committee announced its final decision on the fate of the ANC Youth League leader late this evening, declaring that his suspension from the party would be upheld. The decision can still be overturned by the National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal or reviewed by the ANC’s executive committee, but Malema’s political career is on decidedly shaky ground tonight.
Yesterday Julius Malema’s struggle with the South Africa’s judicial system surfaced in the media. See the video of him discussing his love-hate relationship with his white lawyers inside, but also keep an eye on our boy’s outfit. Once again he reminds us that just because you are a beret-wearing revolutionary, there is no excuse for not popping at least two collars in the process.
Julius Malema is going to be climbing an uphill battle in his latest legal wrangle because of the white minority controlling South Africa’s judicial system. At least, that’s the point he seemed to be making during footage released today of the ANC Youth League lekgotla held last week.
The Eastern Cape branch of the ANCYL has proclaimed that they will ignore Julius Malema’s suspension from his chairmanship of the Youth League until the final mitigation of sentence can be decided upon, or at least until a pronouncement can be made at the ANC national congress in December.
Julius Malema is raring to go with his appeal against the five year ANC suspension he received a few weeks ago. He has been quoted today saying he’s prepared to accept any outcome. How diplomatic. (But please note, if you still think Juju is really going to retire to the country to be a farmer, you may have to reconsider.)
Embattled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was elected to the ANC’s provincial executive committee (PEC) in Limpopo on Tuesday with 592 votes. But what happens if his current appeal is rejected? Read on..
Despite the fact that Julius Malema has now decided to be a beef farmer, the Afrikanerbond definitely wants him to come before the South African Commission of Human Rights on three allegations of hate speech, which the group has lodged against him since March 2010.
I think it’s safe to say that hatin’ on Julius has now officially saved more conversations than the weather. Having said that, after a good rant most of us move on. Most of us. One Eastern Cape man, however, decided to put on a cape, jump on some cars and claim that he is a superman from the clouds, sent to kill Malema.
Helen Zille texted the following to 2oceansVibe following the outcome of Julius Malema’s disciplinary hearing.
Julius Malema has been suspended from the ANC, and ANC Youth League for FIVE YEARS. Unlike many of the other sentences handed to other core members of the ANCYL, Malema’s sentence is effective immediately.
Julius Malema complained this week in front of crowds in Alex and Mthatha that he is being persecuted by the ANC. The ANCYL leader says he wants to be treated in the same way that Nelson Mandela and other party leaders have been in the past, when criticising the status quo of the day.
Parody video production company, AvantGods, have just dropped “Every Day Mshini Wam”, the latest in a deluge of Party Rock Anthem parodies meming around the interwebs. heck out Every Day Mshini Wam, and some of its friends, after the jump.
The ANC wants to know which ANCYL supporters were so vocal last week around the Julius Malema disciplinary hearing. And it’s not so they can hand out prizes for enthusiasm. Provincial leaders have been instructed to identify the culprits who caused chaos at Luthuli House and surrounds in support of Juju.
Relations have never been better between the media and ANCYL followers. With supporters threatening journalists with comments such as, “We are going to beat you all by the end of the day because you are writing lies,” and rumours this morning of people gathering stones to throw at media reporting on the Malema discplinary hearing, the vibe between league supporters and journos is just awesome right now.
Hundreds of people have been gathering this morning outside the ANC Youth League headquarters in Johannesburg, following the league’s promise that supporters would behave well in the lead up to Julius Malema’s disciplinary hearing. Rubber bullets have already been used by police to contain the crowd. Twitter is alive with reports of violence and mayhem going down.
The ANC has given assurances today that it will not back down on the charges brought against Julius Malema and ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, in spite of the youth league’s requests for urgent discussions on the matter. It seems the league is still not clear on why Juju and Floyd are actually being charged.
The news broke earlier today that the ANC will charge Julius Malema for infringing upon the ANC’s constitution. The party spokesperson Keith Khoza has now confirmed that Floyd Shivambu will also be charged with bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing divisions. Shivambu is the current ANC Youth League spokesperson.
I don’t know about you, but I for one am feeling like a real tit! I can’t believe I fell for that silly City Press article claiming Julius Malema uses his secret trust fund to fund his lavish lifestyle. It turns out he’s actually a young philanthropist and uses it to “fund charitable causes!”
