The results of yesterday’s fourth democratic municipal elections started trickling in late last night, after a very long, but mostly quiet day of voting. There were long lines, some scanner problems and one or two questions raised here and there.
This is a little like me not being allowed to have posters up in my bedroom, but less serious: the ANC has lodged a complaint with the Electoral Commission after Cape Town city workers were found removing COSATU posters campaigning for Tony Ehrenreich. Because they want their posters back, apparently.
As if we didn’t have enough public holidays already, here’s another one. May the 18th is the day of the local government elections and great president Zuma has declared it a public holiday, so we can all vote, safe in the knowledge that another day in the country’s economy won’t be productive at all.
