A US District Court judge has ruled that Elton John and his lyricist Bernie Taupin didn’t steal the lyrics to the song “Nikita”.
Yesterday, 2oceansvibe reported that a local man, Guy Hobbs, had accused Elton John of plagiarising and misappropriating lyrics that he had written for John’s hit single, “Nikita”. This morning, he contacted us for full comment. Read his compelling argument, after the jump.
You know that Elton John song, “Nikita”? According to Capetonian, Guy Hobbs, he actually wrote the lyrics in the early 80s following a relationship with a Russian waitress called Natasha. But when he submitted it to several publishing companies, he got turned down. In 1985, the song suddenly popped up on the radio as a new Elton John single.
