Pay attention on the road out there guys – the latest statistics on road deaths in South Africa are in and it should give us a good kick up the backside.
This man ain’t scared of telling a little fib now and again, so we shouldn’t be surprised at the latest news coming out of Colorado.
It’s tricky to plead not guilty to drinking and driving, when there is a YouTube video that you previously posted, admitting to killing a man whilst driving drunk.
Over the weekend reports surfaced of an arrest for a drunk driver in Cape Town. Die Burger reported that person was ANC national executive committee member Tony Yengeni, but these claims were not confirmed by the police until today.
Reports have surfaced of a 58-year-old man being arrested in Cape Town on Sunday for driving while under the influence. Die Burger claims this man was ANC national executive committee member Tony Yengeni.
We told you recently about Drive Dry’s spot of goodvertising they had undertaken to reduce instances of driving drunk in young adult South Africans (us, you crazy kids). Here’s a brief rundown of how the campaign works, for those of you who missed it the first time around. Navigate to DriveDry.co.za, sign in with your […]
Welcome to Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Parents whisk their children to and from bouts of social soccer in the park. Some of them might stop off somewhere for a Cornetto. Maybe not. Others might be enjoying an alcohol-induced coma in the comfort of their running Audi A3 at the traffic lights. Wait, […]
With two American states legalising the possession and recreational use of spliff, this is becoming an important question to ask. Especially as, according to a new survey from the California Office of Traffic Safety, there are more stoned drivers on Californian roads than drunk ones.
This is why you don’t tempt fate. Or use stupid sayings. Or tweet whilst driving. Or tweet while driving drunk, while “going 120 drifting corners.” This is the fate that was suffered by a Canadian rapper and his friends recently, after deciding to have a little too much fun.
A suspected drunk driver has been caught on camera crashing into a petrol pump at a filling station in Kroonstad. As you’ll see from the footage, the driver literally missed crushing the petrol attendant to death by milliseconds. But unbelievably no one was injured. The driver, identified as one Molefi Mokoena, then proceeded to belly-flop out his car window before trying to escape. He was however quickly apprehended by witnesses and appeared in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s court on charges of drunk driving.
The clampdown on drunken driving is in full swing, and the provincial traffic department is currently in negotiations with the police to initiate on-the-spot blood testing at roadblocks. This will provide solid and immediate evidence for prosecution.
Getting behind the wheel of a car after having a drink or two is always risky – you may feel perfectly fine, able to do maths, whatever. But the moment you see a roadblock, you’re not too sure if you’ll pass the breathaliser. Why not check your blood/alcohol level using a new app for your iPhone, BreathalEyes?
We’ve been told that the government is not messing around when it comes to enforcing road traffic laws, including those relating to drinking and driving. Now new stats reveal the local authorities really do seem intent on following through with their warnings to motorists. Since September last year, more than 20 000 drunk drivers have been arrested. Not funny in the slightest.
As lawmakers await a verdict on the controversial Dräger breathalyser test, expected next month, the Western Cape government is still cracking down on drunk driving. Hard. No less than 65 drunk driving arrests were made over the weekend in Cape Town alone.
Remember judge Nkola Motata? He got a bit wasted a couple of years ago and drove his car off the road into someone’s garden. He was terribly sorry about it at the time – so sorry that his 12 months jail sentence was upheld. But during “the early hours” of this morning he was involved in yet another accident – this time with a minibus taxi.
The mere fact that cops have to put up with guys like this daily makes them pretty awesome in my opinion. This Russian dude is so drunk that he attempts to use his bare hand, and then his box of cigarettes as a telephone! I do not even want to know what our local police force must deal with every week – especially after phuza Thursday!
With the Easter weekend but a heartbeat away, please be careful on the roads. And don’t even think about driving while under the influence, ok? Not even traffic cops can get away with that anymore. In another ironic turn of events in the world of law enforcement, a traffic officer was arrested for drunk driving last weekend.
You know that feeling when you get into the car after having a few too many? Don’t deny it, you know you have done it. You turn the corner and wham, there’s a road block! There is no adrenalin quite like that. So would it help if they did away with the drunk-driving laws?
