The provincial council of the ANC in the Western Cape are again pointing fingers at the DA, this time for not making use of its full capital budget. This is the same issue raised last year by the ANC, when the Western Cape only spent 75% of its budget.

Zuma Swears Allegiance To Youth Wage Subsidy

President Jacob Zuma has said his government will stand firmly by their plan to implement a planned wage subsidy aimed at cutting youth unemployment. Its specifications will still be negotiated, but his reassurance comes days after violence flared up at a march where the DA tried to march on Cosatu House to highlight Cosatu’s opposition to the scheme.

The DA’s march against Cosatu in the Johannesburg city centre became violent earlier. Cosatu members allegedly stormed the march and rocks were thrown. In the process, DA supporters and a journalist from the Mail & Guardian were injured after being hit with stones.

DA Leader Helen Zille was under the spotlight after a new report written on behalf of Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, alleged that lawful process was not followed in a recent tender procurement by the Western Cape government. The committee which will shepherd the Protection of State Information Bill through to the next stage of its approval process in the National Council of Provinces next year has been announced. Parliament has elected 15 ad hoc committee members, 10 of whom are from the ANC, two from the DA and one each from Cope, the ID and the IFP.

In positive news for our democracy, the Supreme Court of Appeal has decided that Menzi Simelane’s role as National Director of Public Prosecutions is invalid. This is in response to an application by the DA, contesting President Jacob Zuma’s appointment of Simelane to the position in 2009.

Following the ANCYL’s attempt at taking the DA to court over unenclosed toilets in the Western Cape, ANC Free State secretary Sibongile Basani admitted yesterday that the ANC had been aware of the same problem in the Rammulotsi, an area under ANC control, “in July last year.” This despite the party’s frequent claims of ignorance.

Chris Rock reckons that all of us have at least one gay uncle. If that is the case, the ACDP and FF+, might have just lost a lot of votes in the upcoming elections. A motion for Parliament to congratulate South Africa’s new Mr. Gay World winner, Francois Nel, has been blocked by these two parties. Gaga is not going to be happy about this.
