But every once in a blue moon we get an absolute gem sent to us – something from the deep web that mainstream media hasn’t been able to pick up quite yet. GENIUS: Check Out This Brilliant Advert For A Multi-Lingual School In Jo’burg

South African-based ad agency, Joe Public, created this masterful campaign for a school in Johannesburg that teaches in both English and Afrikaans. The campaign features a series of posters with poetry on them – that’s not the clever part though. The clever part is that each of the poems can be read word-for-word in both English and Afrikaans, with only slight changes in meaning.

Alex Rawlins Is Britain’s Most Multilingual Student [VIDEO]

Alex Rawlings is a 20-year-old student at Oxford University. He recently won a search by Harper Collins Publishers to identify the most multilingual student in the United Kingdom. This boss is able to speak 11 languages, ranging from English to Catalan. And…wait for it…Afrikaans! See him speak all of them fluently – after the jump.

South African Film Receives Yet Another Accolade At Cannes

Last month we told you about Oliver Hermanus’ Skoonheid – the first Afrikaans feature film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. This weekend saw the end of the festival with the all-important awards section, and Skoonheid walked away with the Queer Palm Award! It is given to a film that contributes to lesbian, gay, bi or transgender issues. Three cheers for Oliver!

“Skoonheid” Is First Afrikaans Movie To Be Screened At Cannes Film Festival

Ja-nee ouens, Die Taal maak my sommer vandag baie trots! For the first time ever, an Afrikaans feature film will be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. It is called “Skoonheid” and it is a pretty awesome considering it will be show alongside new movies by the likes of Gus Van Sant, Lars von Trier, and Pedro Almodovar.
