Well, this is embarrassing. A US commander of NATO troops in Afghanistan has apologised after copies of the Koran (and other religious Islamic materials) were sent to be burned in a rubbish tip. The books were found by Afghan Muslims working on the dump. They told friends and this resulted in about 2 000 people rocking up at the US base to assault it with fire bombs and stones.
A US Military Intelligence Report, known as the “State of the Taliban 2012”, was leaked to the BBC and The Times recently. This report shows that the Taliban, backed by Pakistan, is set to take control of Afghanistan after the withdrawal of US and NATO forces. That’s pretty damn scary.
News.com.au, the primary news portal of embattled media tycoon and lizard being, Rupert Murdoch, made a magnificent headline flub this morning, seen above. According to history and fact, the last time Queen Victoria met a soldier was some time before her death in 1901, although the war in Afghanistan may well have been the topic […]
One of the highest honours in the UK military is being awarded the Military Cross for bravery in war. Durban’s Peter Keogh, 30, has been selected for the award for his courage during a fire-fight in Afghanistan. He’ll receive his medal from the Queen of England later this month. Pretty impressive.
The BBC is reporting that Afghanistan premiered their first ever satirical comedy television show last week, titled ‘The Ministry’. “Taliban: ‘On each floor of the hotel, our fighters have broken down the door to each room, taking out guests and killing them.'” This was one of the traumatic tweets circulating on Twitter last night, as Taliban militants stormed the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul, killing 21 people.
The father of an American soldier held captive for the last two years in Afghanistan, has sought the help of Pakistan’s military via a heartfelt Youtube message. In this video, Bob Bergdahl directly addresses Pakistan’s Army Chief of Staff as well as the head of their country’s intelligence service. Also notice how he hasn’t cut his beard since his son’s capture as sign of support.
Even I, most cynical man alive, am pretty choked up about this recording. It’s from an unknown soldier in Afghanistan who’s calling his pregnant girlfriend. In the 90 second call he tells her that one of his fellow soldiers had just been killed and that he misses her terribly. Then… he asks her to marry him.
WikiLeaks founder and destroyer-in-chief of American military credibility, Julian Assange, is not a very well-liked chap. Last week he leaked literally tens of thousands of US Military Afghan War Logs to the press after posting them on WikiLeaks.org. The logs detail the nitty gritty details of the nine-year US occupation of Afghanistan. Assange himself claims […]
