It’s no secret that the Eastern Cape is suffering from one of the most devastating droughts in recent times. Jacki Bilsbury from the Walmer area had a laugh when she read a local newspaper article about pool water theft. She’s not laughing now.
A couple of benches in New Zealand were altered to imprint advertising for Superette short shorts on the back of people’s thighs. This is creepy on a couple of levels, but I’m mostly curious as to how somebody could get the back of their thighs stamped with words and not notice.
While I may not have agreed with all the Oscar winners, I certainly can’t argue with the prizes dished out at the Golden Rasberry Awards on Saturday night (Razzies for short). The Razzies, for those of you out of the loop, honour the worst films of the year, giving the likes of ‘Sex and the City 2’ and ‘The Last Airbender’ their chance to shine.
Hundreds of skinny jeans walked around the CTICC on Saturday evening for the MK Awards – a first for Cape Town. But not everyone who attended thought it was awesome. Quote of the week: “Somewhere Jack Parow cannot be thinking that this mess was quite piele.”
The turmoil in the Middle East has done damage to the fragile oil price, and last week saw a more than 10 percent increase in the price per barrel. As a result we have seen petrol prices increase this month, and March will be no different. The Spanish are being productive about things though, we could learn from them.

Blokes on the Couch, brought to you by 2oceansvibe Radio, is the only real way to listen to sports commentary. This weekend’s round of public service will cover three Super15 games over the course Friday and Saturday, the details and previews of which are after the jump.
For those of you working in the digital journalism industry, it’s time to shine and get your hands on some bucks from Google! Google recently awarded media watchdog IPI (International Press Institute) with nearly R20 million as part of a new project to support digital journalism initiatives in Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
It’s called “Dare to Win”. And you can win, if you have just the slightest smidgeon of creativity and originality. So here’s the vibe. First off, become a member of MWEB’s Facebook Fan Page. Once you’ve done that, it’s as simple as writing on the wall exactly what you have always wanted to do or […]
Well it’s Friday, so I thought we’d head over to the ridiculous side of life.
Meet Neil Lansing, a 33 year-old man from Florida, who hid 30 items of contraband in his rectum.
It’s Friday, and you need to look at this. Korean designer Eungi Kim assembled a horse-shaped bike frame for the Seoul Cycle Design Competiton and I can’t tell if I hate it or not. It’s horse-shaped, so I approve inherently, but it’s just one rung below the penny farthing on the hipster scale.
Local photographer, Lee Casalena, has taken a stunning night-time panoramic shot of Cape Town from the lower peak of Lions Head. The shot is fully interactive, and features the usual breathtaking view of the mountain, the City Bowl, the lights of the flats and Northern Suburbs, Table Bay, Clifton, and Camps Bay.
The giant has realised a gap in the market with this new feature it’s adding to the existing structural layout of the site. Like you’d click on the left toolbar to access news or images, soon you’ll search for a recipe based on quite specific criteria. Even real chefs are amped.
You guys remember all that hoo-ha over Gervais’ Golden Globes bit? It was pretty great. In all likelihood, that’s why the Oscars are being hosted by similarly scathing comedians, Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Sweetheart that he is, Gervais has offered them some free material, “in case they have a few minutes to fill.”
If you have not watched “The Hangover” then there is something wrong with you, as it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and I have very good taste. Thankfully the producers of “The Hangover” have seen it fit for us to be granted a new Hangover movie, aptly entitled “The Hangover 2”. Here’s the first sneak peak.
Popped into Giovanni’s last night to grab some snackaroos, following an epic evening at Cape Town’s Design Indaba (loved the MINI stand – which let’s you design your own MINI). So La Muse and I picked up some cold meats and salads, as you do, and headed to the counter to pay. Lo and behold, […]
Never mind Libya, the biggest story this week has been Justin Bieber’s hair. And yesterday things got even more exciting (if you’re a tween), when the pop culture deity decided to donate a lock of his mane to another famous lesbian, Ellen DeGeneres. She then did what any other sensible person would do when receiving such a prized gift, she put it on eBay.
Natalie Portman Stars In New Dior Commercial – Black Swan star Natalie Portman features in a new TV ad for Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Chérie fragrance. Again directed by Sofia Coppola, this latest installment for the scent shows the Oscar nominee as her most French self, dressing up in Dior (bien sûr), lounging around a […]

In sticking with the theme of striving to keep you up-to-date with all the latest information concerning matters of investment and business, we now bring you a story to tickle your taste buds in a new way. Brussels has declared the pasty is now no longer in any danger of being plagiarised.
After winning the award for best show in its category, you’d think M-Net would buy All Access a swish advertising billboard next to the N1, urging us all to watch this “award winning show!”. Instead rumours are surfacing that All Access and its demographically-flawed presenters might be cut.
It’s a happy thought. Especially because they’ve been holding the naked sledding world championships in Braunlage, which they tell me is in Germany – a country with a rich history in this noble endeavour. Dozens of competitors took part, and they weren’t all ladies! Surprisingly SFW.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Design Indaba is here! Once more, Cape Town’s streets are buzzing with a heap of local and imported design talent. You can practically smell the clutch pencil lead in the air. One great aspect of the Design Indaba is the opportunity for the greater public to vote for the Most Beautiful […]
That’s how they’re rolling in Game stores at the moment. This genuine in-store signage was spotted by 2oceansviber Casey A, who was no doubt in the store to get a 90cm Telefunken plasma for thirty bucks. Luckily her trip was made all the more enjoyable, with this beaut! Naturally this post will be going straight […]
You may know by now that top cop and original Gansta, Bheki Cele, has been found guilty by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela of improper conduct for entering into a R500 million lease for a Pretoria building intended to host a new SAPS headquarters. But luckily for him, his good friends in government have his back.
This is good news, because I don’t think Apple is likely to issue us such a momentous tease without something substantial in the works. The original iPad went on sale on 3 April 2010, suggesting that the timing of the 2 March event would work with the annual cycle of launching the newer version of the product.
No, we’re not trying to pull any wool over anyone’s eyes here. We know how some of you enjoy a good round of golf from time to time, and what with Pravin Grodhan going hard at the “sinners” again this year, what better way to spite him than buying your very own country club in Florida?
Yesterday 2oceansvibe published a photo of what the ISS confirmed to be an armoured personnel carrier being loaded on to a vessel in the Cape Town Harbour, shown above. NCACC spokesperson, Tlali Tlali, has confirmed to 2oceansvibe that South Africa has sold arms to Libya. Click link for more..
Those sneaky Russians! They’ve been calling beer “foodstuffs” all this time and not “alcohol” like the rest of us. The regulation of alcohol advertising and night-time sales is heavily affected by this and anything pretty much goes. But a new law will soon change that, introducing Russia to the 21st century where everyone else lives.
