Alright, boys and girls. Brace yourselves. Over a month ago, 2oceansvibe and Jack Daniels combined forces to bring you Jack Friday. Jack Friday is the logical culmination of 2oceansvibe’s ongoing efforts to have Friday afternoon working hours abolished. (Read the extensive history at your own leisure, here.) So what did we do? We staged a […]
Self-cannabalism is not for the faint-hearted. And there are only eight recorded instances of it in the world. Most recently, a man from New Zealand cut off his little finger and ate it. It’s interesting to note that he’s a vegetarian.
I’ve been keeping an eye on what I refer to as the ‘jet-pack issue’ since I was a small child. I am of course referring to the personal jet-backpack we first saw James Bond use in Thunderball. It was understood that Bond might be ahead of the game and it may well take a bit […]
It has emerged that Rashid and Akbar Khan, the two Pakistanis who helped Osama bin Laden hide in the shadows of their country’s army, bought large food orders for those living at the compound. They chose big brands and equally favoured Pepsi and Coke, neighbours and a local shopkeeper have claimed.
Kuwaiti newspaper. Al-Anbaa, has published what it claims to be Osama Bin Laden’s last will and testament. The will, dated December 14 2001, bequeaths no assets, but is filled to the brim with advice for bin Laden’s wives, children, Islamic scholars, and fellow jihadists.
Chinese factories making iPads and iPhones are forcing staff to sign pledges not to commit suicide. If your first reaction to this story’s headline is one of confusion, then join the club. I mean, why would someone who builds iPads for a living be anything but ecstatic, right? But do yourself a favour and read through the rest of this piece before switching careers.
Bin Laden Is Fourth Man To Get Time’s Red ‘X’ Cover – The magazine said Monday that it will publish a special issue, to hit newsstands Thursday, on the death of the al Qaeda leader. The cover will feature an illustration by Tim O’Brien of bin Laden’s face with a red X across it, making […]
Hugo Keith, a lawyer representing South African authorities at Shrien Dewani’s extradition hearing today alleged that Dewani needed a way out of his marriage to his wife, Anni, which wouldn’t result in him being disowned by his family.
With all the talk of events in London over the past week, I couldn’t help but feel slightly nostalgic for my halcyon days in the UK. Weekends in Europe, snakebites, wild nights at the Met Bar, Pimms, Linen suits, boat races – my, they were good days. Not the weather, mind, but the first world nature of it all.
This video is weird. And rather disturbing. But I promise you’ll want to forward this to every friend you know who who klaps gym boet. This group of massive and ripped guys have made a video telling the world how much they love effing tea. NSFW, but then again, you are probably not at work with all these public holidays.
It’s ironic in some ways and I’ll leave that deduction up to you and your dirty mind. But for now I simply wish to report this image of Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa, wrapped in toilet paper. To check it out enlarged, with bottles of booze lying around and a report about where it might have […]
Hemingway drank cocktails. I’m just saying that now so that any concerns about masculinity and ‘girly drinks’ are shelved from the get-go. Multimedia artist Marcos Lutyens has set up an installation that projects arsty scans from EEG headsets worn by people drinking Absolut vodka, and if boozey brain-waves isn’t art then I don’t know what is.
In planning the perfect suicide some people go to great lengths, and some with a flair for the dramatic go to great heights. Like the lady from Pretoria who climbed a 50m construction crane in an attempt to jump to her death yesterday.
This story echoes like an apartheid-style murder and I watched, perplexed, on Sunday as certain subcultures of the Twitter feed buzzed with excitement at the possibility of a racial incident. This murder went largely ignored, surprisingly, given the magnitude of the violence committed in such a heinous act.
Despite a ban on traveling to the European Union for the last decade, Robert Mugabe once again found himself there this weekend. He attended the beatification of the late pope John Paul II. The experience clearly touched that (only to be confirmed by autopsy one day) heart of his and he said it was “fabulous, absolutely heavenly.” Fabulous? What straight man uses that word?
In what’s been the most radical political shift in about a century, Canadians yesterday voted the Conservative Party into a 100-seat majority – meaning first time in history, the New Democratic Party will form the Official Opposition. Former Prime Minister Harper’s government was forced into an election after a no-confidence vote in parliament.
There’s not much more that needs to be said, is there? No, is the answer. It’s pretty much all you needed to hear. Do you even need me to push you over the edge by mentioning the four-course gourmet gastronomic journey, prepared by renowned Chef Jonathan Gargan? Probably not. Seriously, get a grip – it’s […]
This coming Friday afternoon (6 May) you could be working – or you could be chilling with four of your friends on a yacht, moored off Clifton 4th Beach, with great food, great drink, and great music – in absolute comfort.
Football legend Eddie Lewis has passed away in a Johannesburg hospital at age 76 after a battle with cancer. Lewis will be famously remembered for his many contributions to the sport around the world but none more so than his feat of coaching two major clubs at the same time – Kaizer Chiefs and Wits University.
Inside The ‘Situation Room’ – The people who gathered Sunday in the Situation Room know all about high-pressure situations. But this was something else. For 40 minutes, the President and his senior aides could do nothing but watch the video screens and listen to the operation and ensuing firefight on the other side of the […]
To get to my mother’s desk I had to walk through a curio shop. It was one of those dreadfully cheesy African curio shops, with the carved wooden and stone animals, the beads and the bowls, like you find at any South African airport, the Moyo restaurants and the Durban beachfront. I have that exact same feeling (as if I’m back in that curio shop) when I come across certain music videos made by South African bands. What is with this new trend with our bands who think that by merely smearing white face paint across their videos it will make them mysterious and exotic?
Not shy of diversification, it seems this local retailer is versatile enough to branch out into personal hygiene products. Who would have thought that a butchery would be the go-to place for one to acquire Ass Creams? “Kudos” to you!
The face of global terror and the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on America’s World Trade Centers in New York, has been killed. On Sunday night, just near the Pakistani capital, a crack team of 25 navy seals cruised into a sprawling mansion and after a brief ‘firefight’ they took him down. Eat that, Geoge […]
A lot of you will recognise Sam Delaney as the awfully funny guy that reads the newspaper headlines on SKY News with former 2oceansvibe guest, Charlotte Hawkins. I am not 100% sure on which exact day of the week Sam appears on SKY News, or whether his guest appearances are merely ad hoc, but when […]
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s youngest son, Saif Gaddafi, is reported to have been killed yesterday. According to the BBC, “A Nato air strike in Tripoli has killed the son of Col Muammar Gaddafi, a Libyan government spokesman has said.” Follow the link for more.
I sincerely hope you lot have been following the hilarities going on State-side. Our regular Morning Spice readers should be well-versed in Donald Trump’s birth-obsession conspiracy theory he picked up in his quest to become the next President of the United States of America. After months of speculation, Barack Obama finally revealed his original birth […]
Probably the greatest photograph to be taken of the Royal Wedding, features a scowling Grace van Cutsem – Prince William’s 3-year-old goddaughter. The timing of the photo is nothing short of epic, as it happens to be during the newlyweds first balcony kiss. The crowds are going nuts, as a clearly unimpressed Grace covers her […]
Kate Moss is basically the greatest supermodel that ever lived. But not only that, she also happens to be a genuine fashion icon. Lest we forget she got bust for coke and punished critics by coming back stronger than ever before. Right now she is on the cover of French Vogue AND Vogue Brazil AND […]
I’ll be honest, my friends and I have been practicing the climbing-out-of-the-pool-with-water-pouring-down-our-faces men’s fragrance commercial ripoff for quite some time. Now whilst GQ allowed a bit of indulgence, it was only when Kulula came to the party – allowing such ridiculousness – that the years of training finally paid off! Morne Van Zyl took the […]
Our royal reporter, Nadia Neophytou, was in London these past few days, and gives us this report: “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…” Catherine Middleton, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Duke, made true this Victorian lore, as her fairytale wedding unfolded in London yesterday. From the dress to her earrings and tiara, […]
