Flight of the Conchords were right on the money when they sang Robots. The Robot, The Robo Boogie, global robo-depression, the robotic uprising of the ’90s – it’s actually scary how many parallels there are with Transformers: Dark of the Moon…
Kia’s latest adverts were designed around a dual zone air conditioning system they’ve developed. Their marketers thought the best way to demonstrate this feature was to depict a cartoon school girl on one side of a poster as innocent, and suggestively slutty on the other. Her teacher is also involved, and seems very keen. Clearly not everyone thinks this is clever marketing. Full advert inside.
A strange number has appeared on the screen of my phone, twice a day, every day this week. I left it – as I do most phone calls – because I was/am usually doing something at the time. And even if I’m doing nothing, that does qualify as doing something these days. My voicemail message […]
You guys remember that VW commercial that ran during the Superbowl with a tiny Darth Vader? Well, Greenpeace does. And they’ve made a spoof follow-up in an effort to call attention to the automaker’s environmental record. Liberal media sentiments aside, it’s cute – click through for a tiny Vader and a Message About The Environment.
In last week’s column I asked what kind of wine content you would like to see me write about. The comment that popped up more than most was about supermarkets, that is, how to deal with a wall of wines, all staring at you from the shelf. Which to buy? How do I know I won’t end up with battery acid? Oh god, the decisions. Too. Many. Wines. Fuck it, I’ll just get that coffee-flavoured Pinotage. Well, you are not alone.
Princess Diana has risen from the dead, on the front cover of Newsweek in a picture that shows her walking in town with her new daughter-in-law, Kate. Creepy much?
Groupon, in conjunction with Union Sports Mag, is giving four lucky Groupies the chance to win a seafood dinner with Springbok centre, Jaque Fourie, at one of Cape Town’s best kept secrets – Pigalle restaurant. Pigalle is perfect for when you want to show off the vibe of Cape Town, masterfully capturing the sense of […]
I come from a rich musical background and was raised – in more ways than one – on the likes of Billy Joel. “Billy Joel Kids” have a very special connection with each other, and tend to avoid songs like Pianoman and Uptown Girl. Not to be snobs about it – but more because those two tunes […]
Personally, I took Shakespeare as more of an opium den kind of a guy, but I’ve been wrong before and I’ll be the first to admit that. Anyway, a South African anthropologist from Wits University has set in motion a request to open the graves of William Shakespeare and his family to determine, among other things, what killed them.
Lyle Wilkens (@lylewilkens) saw the article about us giving away free 2oceansvibe Radio car kits – enabling him to listen to South Africa’s most exiting new internet radio station, 2oceansvibe Radio, in his car. Lyle was clearly tired of having no choice and realised that the one or two stations available on FM, were not made […]
Pope Benedict XVI took to Twitter yesterday and composed a tweet on an iPad before sending it out into cyberspace. Granted, it did take about six other similarly aged cardinals and other officials to help him out, but it is the thought that counts, right? See a video of him tweeting, as well as his full Twitter message, inside.
After New York, every subsequent gay marriage approval is going to seem less exciting, but this is still a thing. Judge Fernando Henrique Pinto ruled that two men could convert their civil union into a full marriage, a right that’s been lobbeyed for since the Supreme Court recognized same-sex civil unions in May, but stopped short of approving marriage.
Monaco Insists Charlene Is Not A Runaway Bride – Monaco’s palace went into P.R. overdrive on Tuesday, squelching rumors that princess-to-be Charlene Wittstock had turned into a runaway bride. French newspaper L’express printed a story last week claiming that Wittstock tried to flee the country and head home to South Africa. [huffpo] Google Launches Facebook […]
As the new royal patron of Wimbledon, the Duchess of Cambridge is taking her duties increasingly seriously as this year’s tournament unfolds. Not the least of her responsibilities, it seems, is joining in with the odd Mexican wave in the stands.
We’re all mildly fanatical about the modern day motor vehicle over here at the 2oceansVibe compound. Some of us drive Mini Countrymans. Others are lucky enough to sport Fiat Unos. Actually, it’s convenient that I mentioned the Fiat Uno, because this next clip features a car that travels only slightly slower than your average City […]
There are some things in life you just don’t do. And hurling your shoes at Henry Rollins ranks up there with the gravest of mistakes. But that is just what one punk did whilst Rollins was trying to conduct an interview with one of his favourite bands. Mr. Rollins responded like the true gentlemen thug he is, as you’ll see from this priceless video.
VW are proposing a new technology that will allow drivers to take their hands off the wheel at speeds up to around 130km/h, and let the car’s system temporarily take over. Look, it isn’t exactly Knight Rider, but it’s good that VW’s looking after people who want to multitask while cruising down highways.
