If the image of a dead Michael Jackson wasn’t enough to shock, the DA pulled out a voice recording at the first day of the Michael Jackson trial. This, from the Telegraph: Opening statements in Dr Conrad Murray’s trial began with prosecutors airing a recording of a groggy and seemingly drugged Michael Jackson just weeks […]
This decade’s OJ Simpson trial is bound to be as gripping as the original, with all the American showmanship one could dream of. Right on cue the opening statement was punctuated by a shocking image of Michael Jackson – dead. Conrad Murray, Jackson’s personal physician, is on trial for the death of the King of […]
As a mother, there is nothing more frightening than living with the suspicion that your son might be one of those gays. Luckily help has arrived in the form of a new Android app, called “Is My Son Gay?” Over the course of 20 questions, it claims it can determine whether the survey-taker’s offspring is a homosexual, or not. Example: “Does he like to dress up nicely?”
A study from Lawrence Berkely National Library has claimed that when you smoke a blunt, you contribute indirectly to a little under a kilogram of carbon dioxide emissions. The same study suggests that US pot growers are responsible for 1% of national electricity consumption. So I guess it’s not that green after all. (Sorry.)
Radio 702 Fires Mark Esterhuysen For Multiple F-Bombs During News Bulletin – The controller, producer and call screener on duty during Talk Radio 702’s 1am news bulletin were all so shocked by newsreader Mark Esterhuysen’s F-bombs on air (listen here) that they “froze for some time”. So said Eyewitness News’s editor-in-chief, Katy Katopodis. Katopodis said […]
Well hey, that sounds at least a little familiar. Ivan Lewis, shadow culture secretary is presently proposing a licensing scheme for journalists at the Labour party conference in Liverpool, which would have the power to prohibit people from doing any sort of journalism – which would have to include tweeting, blogging, and uploading pictures of stuff.
You live in Cape Town, and yet you’re not big on embracing local culture. What the heck is up with that? Alright, so, you concede you haven’t been the best citizen. What’s the best way to educate yourself? With books? Fat chance, my guy. With food. That’s right. The eating kind. Ja, you’re reading this […]
Look, it’s absolutely insane that up to 14 000 people are killed on our roads per annum. Those figures are from 2009, and are apparently the last reliable statistics available. That, according to Bob Geldof logic, would mean that about 38 people are killed on the roads every day. I can’t stress enough how appalling that is. But saying that the road deaths are due to a speed limit that is too high is a bit of a silly statement for a transport minister to make. But that is what S’bu Ndebele wants to do.
The Ahrlac (Advanced High Performance Reconnaissance Light Aircraft) will have a number of uses, including border patrol and surveillance. But, just in case, they’ve also equipped it with a 20mm canon. At a cool R79,59 million each, these badboys aren’t exactly recession friendly. But who cares? Who needs money when you have guns?
“The Tokoloshe” – Dr. Watts feels the heat as his legitimacy comes into question by a patient. How long can he keep this up? Remember we told you a while back about an American guy that made a wedding proposal in the form of a movie trailer, and then surprised his fiancé with it? Mubeen Allie from Lansdowne recently proposed to his girlfriend in the same fashion. This legend asked for her hand on the big screen as she watched from the audience at Cavendish Nouveau.
Eyewitness News radio bulletins will never be the same again after one newsreader lost it last night and f-bombed all kinds of philosophies to anyone that was listening to the 01h00 news. Anarchist and environmentalist, Mark Esterhuysen, probably won’t be reading the news anymore. NSFW, obviously.
So hey, it turns out that on top of everything else, Hitler got slapped with a speeding fine south of Ingolstadt for going twice the speed limit in his Mercedes limousine. This was about two years before becoming Fuhrer, though, so Adolf got his chauffeur to take the heat to keep from spoiling his image.

You do not want to piss Catherine Kieu off if you value your manhood! After an argument with her husband about a friend of his coming over to spend the night, she drugged him, tied him up in their bed and cut off his penis.
From the Brazilian super model to Crocs, everything eventually has its time in the sun. That rule also applies fully to health food. The “newest” African superfood has been growing on some really old trees for a really long time – it’s Baobab fruit.
Google and Israel’s national museum, the Israel Museum, have come together to place a number of the world-famous Dead Sea Scrolls online for the first time. The project is the first of many hoping to showcase some of the manuscripts that make up what many consider the most important archaeological find of the 20th century.
Here we go again. Last month we told you that the Dalai Lama had applied for a South African visa to visit Desmond Tutu on the Arch Bishop’s 80th birthday. This is happening next week, yet our government has not issued the Lama with a visa – something he applied for months ago. You do the math.

Vata Ngobeni, a South African rugby journalist, was detained by police in a New Zealand pub last night. According to the officer who took him into custody, he “fitted the profile of a drug dealer.” Ngobeni happened to be the only black person in the venue at the time. He was also the only one that was asked to take a trip downtown. Awkward.
On Sunday, 20 000 bullfighting fans packed Barcelona’s La Monumental bullring to watch the last corrida that Catalonia will hold; the event was headlined by Spain’s premier matador, José Tomás. The regional ban on bullfighting, which was approved at the end of last year, goes into effect in January.

There are a number of significant shortcuts that can make your life easier, and will allow you to decide where to have that meeting. Like Melrose Arch, for example. With a name like Doña Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, 18th Duchess of Alba, one might excuse her for looking like a struck match. Clearly someone does, seeing as the twice-widowed aristocrat is getting remarried to Alfonso Diez, a man 24 years her junior. The news was announced after she bequeathed every penny she owns, to her children.
The Draft Dangerous Weapons Bill, published recently in the government gazette, has been taking heavy criticism this morning. With a bit of luck, the badly worded document, which seeks to ban things like toy guns, will have statements like this removed: “…any object that can cause injury or have the ability to take a person temporarily ‘out of action.'”

During a speech over the weekend in Germany, the Pope warned of threats posed by abortion and gay marriage. He said that Christian churches “must walk side by side” in the battle against church values. He also added that we must defend the “integrity and the uniqueness of marriage between one man and one woman.”
As the “Occupy Wall Street” protests enter their ninth day, an increasing number of videos and photos have begun surfacing, showing near-indiscriminate use of tasers, mace and kenneling by the NYPD on demonstrators, who are protesting a financial system that apparently favours the wealthy and powerful over ordinary citizens.
I don’t answer private numbers. Nor do a lot of people I know. But a lot of them haven’t reached my elite level. The “elite communicator” level is where you find yourself when you have absolutely zero curiosity as to who might be calling. You’re over it. You’re so far gone, that you only answer […]
This week’s re-make is less a strict film re-make, and more the graduation of a classic television interpretation to the big screen, and considering how well acclaimed the original story is, it’s quite surprising this hasn’t happened sooner: Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
