You might think you’ve seen some nasty old relics cruising the nation’s roads, but you haven’t seen anything quite like this! Kimberley traffic officials impounded this 1976 Toyota Hilux bakkie earlier in the week. Except, its owners have made some… er, modifications over the years. Check out the photo gallery after the jump!
A reader sent in this clipping a week ago, and with a glint in his eye questioned whether wine “experts” are as useful as snake-oil salesmen. The man has a point. When people start advising on matters that largely concern taste, you need to be extra careful for bullshitters. Not as careful as for a bullshitting anesthesiologist I’ll admit – a blagging doctor can kill you. But be careful, because there will be more half-arsed winos than there will be doctors.
Jacob Sutton, fashion photographer and filmmaker, has filmed snowboarder, William Hughes in the French Alps. Thing is, it’s filmed at night, and the snowboarder himself is the only source of light. The result is something else. Click ‘continue reading’ to see the film. Trust me, you want to.
Absa’s HR department must be in a world of pain. The bank has told its full IT staff complement to reapply for their jobs, and look for two other roles within the company. Of Absa’s 1 600 IT personnel, about 200 are currently sitting at home on the company’s payroll, twiddling their thumbs as they await “reassignment”. No wonder I’m still waiting for my online banking issues to be fixed.
Woolies wants you to do all of your shopping in their stores, and soon. They don’t want you to pick up a few things and then mosey on down to Pick n Pay or Spar to buy the rest of what you’re after, because it’s cheaper. Woolies have a vision: they’ll make those things cheaper because they’re opening bigger supermarkets.
A bus driver has been jailed after he used his vehicle to ram a cyclist off the road – catapulting the rider three metres through the air, and resulting in a broken leg and fractured wrist. Moments prior to the collision, the two had an argument at a roundabout, with the cyclist said to have “tugged at one of the bus’ windscreen wipers.” Checkout a video of the incident after the jump.
Forget what you might have heard, or what that guy in the bar told you, it’s time for all of us to get our heads around AARTO – the new road traffic offences system that is going to be rolled out nationwide at some point in the future. Don’t let government’s lack of co-ordination catch you unawares when the time comes!
Even though I don’t have to say it, I will. GoPro has revolutionized the way we see the extreme sports world. Gone are long-shots filmed with super-zoom lenses. With GoPro you’re right in the action, making you wish you were there. Not convinced? Click through to watch the vid.
Europe’s highest court, the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union, ruled yesterday that social networking websites cannot be forced to install filters preventing users from illegally sharing music and videos protected by copyright.
Jade Adami and Mat Gardner, on behalf of Little Big Productions, recently asked 50 Capetonians the same question. They then compiled and edited all the footage into this huggable video – uploaded to YouTube on Valentine’s Day. But what was the question? There’s only one way to find out…
Yesterday Apple made the announcement that the new version of their laptop and desktop software would be released “this summer.” As a total Apple slut, this excites me greatly. Despite the silly name, this is looking mint – a marriage between iOS and Mac OSX. Check out all the new features and sneak preview by clicking on “continue reading.”
Monica Lewinsky Back In Spotlight With PBS’ Two-Part “Clinton” – Monica Lewinsky has attempted to keep a low-profile after her role in President Bill Clinton’s impeachment scandal made her name the butt of many late-night jokes. But she’s likely to become a topic of discussion again when PBS airs its much anticipated two-part, four-hour documentary […]

In what must certainly be the crunchiest deal in recent history, breakfast cereal giant, Kellogg has agreed to buy the Pringles snack business from Procter & Gamble for $2,7 billion. The move will make Kellogg the second biggest player in the global snacks market. Pringles reports about $1,5 billion in sales every year, across 140 countries, which is a lot of un-stoppable popping.
Here’s a little video from the people at peopleforbikes.org. If you’re a cyclist, this will make your chest warm with the delight of an extra ten kilometers on a crisp autumn morning. If you’re not a fan, then please make sure you’re sitting down, because this much shit that cyclists say in one go will induce a rage blackout. Believe me.
Dudes, you totally have to see this video, shot last year during the Billabong Pro waiting period. The French Navy labeled this day a double code red – threatening to arrest anyone that entered the water! But surfers are calling it the “biggest and gnarliest” Teahupo’o wave ever ridden.” See if you agree – after the jump.
A bunch of emails have been leaked from the Heartland Institute, the think tank vaguely infamous for being at once massively skeptical of climate change and funded by billionaire global warming deniers, the Koch Brothers. The emails suggest that the Institute has been paying scientists and bloggers to discredit climate change research.
Spectacle is the order of the day for the first birthday celebration of late departed North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Il since his death, as North Koreans turn out en masse to celebrate the “Day of the Shining Star”
It has been more than a century since someone last attempted to cross the Niagara Falls on a tightrope and it was only after a renegotiation and reversed decision that permission was again granted. However, later this year we’ll finally see a man attempt the awe-inspiring stunt.

It is quite alarming, the number of people out there that are “very keen to get a scooter” – but they never get their ass into gear. They realise what a pleasure it is to drive in the city – skipping the traffic and parking next to front doors and beaches, with no car guards […]
Just in time to co-incide with the 500th episode of “The Simpsons,” Matt Groening, the show’s creator, has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Simpsons aired its first episode on 19 December, 1989, so I’d say it was a long enough wait. There was also doughnuts.
65-year-old Allan Lorton, of Knight Road, Sherwood in Durban, died of his wounds on Tuesday after being viciously mauled in an attack by his neighbours’ pit bull. Neighbours and bystanders could only watch in horror as the pensioner bled profusely during the attack.

Chris Brown’s success at the Grammys – he won an award for the Best R&B album, and performed to a standing ovation – has been mildly overshadowed by people getting upset over his beating up Rihanna. So, like all mature and repentant individuals, he turned to his Twitter account to set things right.

[telegraph] FFP […]
Well, would you just look at that. The Hosh Tokoloshe, and his lovely stekkie, Jenna Pietersen, immortalised in black and white, kaalgat. Look at his face. Look at his moustache. So serene. So beautiful. How’s the serenity? You might remember that a large proportion of the 2oceansvibe staffers got their kit off for last year’s […]
Nobody has any idea where they’re planning on getting funding from – but like a kid with an extended birthday wish list, NASA has unveiled some amazing concepts of future, eco-friendly aircraft, which they’re calling “greener flying machines for the year 2025.” Assuming they’re still here then.
