PETA recently took up a lawsuit against SeaWorld on behalf of five killer whales. The animal rights campaigners even went so far as to compare the condition of these orcas to human slavery. The Daily Show responded by sending a black guy to interview someone at PETA. After watching this, pack up and go home, because this is the best thing you’ll see all day.
It’s been about four years since the police raids in Stellenbosch that had the whole Cape Town talking – you remember, right? Shotguns, riot police, pepper spray, the whole hog. Seems the police haven’t learnt – on Saturday the popular Stellenbosch night club, Terrace was raided by the police, under the guise of “breaking up a fight.” Video after the jump.

A lot of them are through the Zinio magazine app. It’s great to flip through the very latest […]

Hello, future! Nevada has become the first state to legalize self-driving cars, which are apparently pretty easy to get hold of in Nevada. Superyachts are one of the things that we hold sacred, here at 2oceansvibe – and part of the reason why we play the overseas lotteries on a weekly basis. It is therefore something of great distress for us, when we learn of the sinking of one of these fantastic beasts of the sea – especially […]

You might think you’ve seen some nasty old relics cruising the nation’s roads, but you haven’t seen anything quite like this! Kimberley traffic officials impounded this 1976 Toyota Hilux bakkie earlier in the week. Except, its owners have made some… er, modifications over the years. A reader sent in this clipping a week ago, and with a glint in his eye questioned whether wine “experts” are as useful as snake-oil salesmen. The man has a point. When people start advising on matters that largely concern taste, you need to be extra careful for bullshitters. Not as careful as for a bullshitting anesthesiologist I’ll admit – a blagging doctor can kill you. But be careful, because there will be more half-arsed winos than there will be doctors.
Jacob Sutton, fashion photographer and filmmaker, has filmed snowboarder, William Hughes in the French Alps. Thing is, it’s filmed at night, and the snowboarder himself is the only source of light. The result is something else. Click ‘continue reading’ to see the film. Trust me, you want to.
Absa’s HR department must be in a world of pain. The bank has told its full IT staff complement to reapply for their jobs, and look for two other roles within the company. Of Absa’s 1 600 IT personnel, about 200 are currently sitting at home on the company’s payroll, twiddling their thumbs as they await “reassignment”. No wonder I’m still waiting for my online banking issues to be fixed.

Forget what you might have heard, or what that guy in the bar told you, it’s time for all of us to get our heads around AARTO – the new road traffic offences system that is going to be rolled out nationwide at some point in the future.
