Last night the 2012 Olympics came to a grand end with the official closing ceremony. A scale model of London took centre stage and was wrapped entirely in newspaper. Damien Hirst interpreted the Union Flag by using members of the crowd, and black London cabs performed a taxi ballet.
I’m glad this has happened, because it sparks an interesting debate regarding luxury consumerism and expectations. In this case it’s to do with two 1st Class passengers on a Qantas flight from LA to Melbourne. Did they do the right thing or were they being ridiculous?
Yip, that’s what we do for you at Groupon. We trawl through all the deals and find the ones that suit you! Because you (should) have an iPhone and you tend to struggle with battery life. Not any more, my fine feathered friends. These things usually cost around R600, but here they are, right now, […]
When complete nut-job James Holmes applied for a place on a prestigious neuroscience doctoral programe last year at the University of Illinois, along with his CV and application, he added what any aspiring neuroscientist would add: a picture of himself feeding a llama.
Kevin Pietersen dropped for spicy texts. Video of Spice Girls at Olympic closing ceremony. Jennifer Aniston is engaged. Roy McIlroy Wins US PGA. Goldman predicted exact number of GB medals.
Malta. Middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Occupied for hundreds of years by marauding Ottoman Turks, Crusaders, the British – you name it. Some country you know has probably made an attempt at conquering the cluster of three islands – Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta is not a destination that you think of when contemplating a […]
OMG! Ed Roland, frontman of the legendary international rock group Collective Soul, has just been added to this year’s Heineken Symphonic Rocks!

The Telegraph has put together what they believe to be the 10 best photographs of the Olympics so far. There are some pretty spectacular images in the selection, but I found them to be a little biased toward team Britain.
This is real news, my friends. Patricia Nomalungelo Sowazi of Butlers Pizza recently made her millionth pizza for the company since joining in 1990, and to celebrate, she traveled thousands of miles to meet Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, at the Olympics. Having worked six shifts a week for more than two decades, she has baked […]
Two wines delivered to me recently seem to show the two sides of South African wine at the moment sits. At least on the supermarket shelf side of things. The one showed progression, innovation (sort of), deliciousness and consideration; the other was a lesson in the typical, the normal and the unsurprising.
Five female Olympic Gymnasts on an open-top double-decker bus in London teaching George Bush’s daughter how to Dougie. Kind of sounds like some bizarre fantasy, doesn’t it? Except it’s not, it’s exactly what happened earlier this week.
Poor Madonna. In her ever increasing bid to stay relevant, she seems to be trying every possible trick in the book to shock and keep people talking. From pointing guns at herself on stage, thinly-disguised drug references and costumes that should really not be worn by a 53-year old, she’s now angered the Russians.
It’s a pity Lew Campbell wasn’t able to capitalise on this past week’s snow, but he definitely hopes we’ll see similar snow next year because he plans to have Tiffindell up and running by next winter. Lew is the proud new owner of SA’s only ski resort, and he has plans to turn Tiffindell into […]
Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and I took The Muse to The Mount Nelson for a spot good old fashioned loving. While we were there, relaxing, as one does, on a public holiday, I decided that the rest of the weekend needed to be used appropriately. That’s when I once again turned to the go! Travel app on my iPad for some motivation and some ideas.
A mere three days ago we reported on a volcano that erupted in New Zealand after laying dormant for over 100 years. In the very same week, another volcano has blown its load. Luckily this time it’s underwater.
Okes, it is time to impress. It’s National Braai Day on 24 September, and my good friend, Jan Braai, who started the initiative for all of you, has written a book called Fireworks to help you braai more like he would.
This must be any photographer’s dream – Usain Bolt, the undisputed fastest man alive, grabbed an Olympic photographer’s camera and started snapping pics straight from the track.
In a previously unheard story that’s been laid out in a signed confession document and accepted by the Cape High Court, Mziwamadoda Qwabe claimed he was told that businessman Shrien Dewani “wanted the wife killed” and that it had to look like a robbery.
Radical video footage has emerged, taken from inside the cockpit of a plane in Idaho, as it went down through a forest. All four passengers survived. You gotta watch this. According to the Telegraph: The footage, posted on YouTube last week, shows the excited travellers record their take-off onboard the small propeller-driven plane as they […]
“This guy’s trippin! Hurry up, go to the back, and get me some fried chicken!” These guys seriously know how to order fast food – in particular fried chicken. You can literally see the poor cashier standing there, thinking: “Uhm, what should I put into the computer!?” But he need not feel bad. I don’t think any of us would have been able to keep up either. And that is why we’ve inducted both these hungry patrons into the prestigious 2oceansVibe Boss Hall of Fame.
Bolt becomes true legend. Libya gets new president. Dewani killer sentenced to 25 years. Semenya through to final. SA 4x400m team through to final. Iran to stop using internet by 2013.
I’ve chatted to you before about this film. It’s a documentary made in South Africa and I personally believe it could win an Oscar. It went mental at Sundance and tells the tale of Roriguez, the American singer who was bigger than Elvis in SA, but didn’t shift more than a handful of albums in the States. Watch this trailer.
It emerged overnight that three Independent Newspapers executives will sue Noseweek in the Western Cape High Court, claiming a collective R1 million for defamation.
The eNews Channel announced today that it will soon broadcast on the Sky digital satellite platform across the UK as part of an initiative to broaden the channel’s scope.
On 18 August, the Springboks will play Argentina in their opening match of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship (formerly Tri-Nations) at Newlands in Cape Town.
A Million Colours is based on the true story of two best friends, who fought the system that tried to separate them, after they shot to fame in 1975 with the release of the South African film e’Lollipop. Muntu Ndebele and Norman Knox didn’t see life in black or white, at a time when the […]
Whether it is cracking open beers in Colombia, jiving in front of livestock in Malawi, or starring in her very own “Texts from Hillary” internet meme, Hillary Clinton sure knows how to have a good time! Check out her out burning some serious tekkie on the dance floor in Joburg last night, inside.
Prolific blogger and long-time Editorial Director of Associated Magazines, Vanessa Raphaely, joins The Bob Skinstad Show from 15h00-16h00 today.
The Internet Archive is a totally, incredibly wonderfully awesome place. It is a vast digital library offering “free universal access to books, movies and music, as well as 150 billion archived web pages.” It’s what the Internet is for. Now it’s even easier to download these files as they have teamed up with BitTorrent.
