2oceansVibe staffer and avowed earthchild, Bearded Wiseman, sinks his teeth into the weighty issue of hotel development in the Kruger National Park, and nails his colours firmly to the mast of the godless neo-conservative capitalists who critics say want to turn the Kruger National Park into Disney Land. Notes from the thinking man’s greeny – here’s […]
In my Grade Eight IsiZulu class, our set book was a novel set in the early 1800s. It was a fictionalised account of what the Iron Age existence of a tribe living in KwaZulu Natal would have been like – before the white man arrived in his ships; even before Shaka Zulu’s fearsome warriors began their raiding expeditions. It was a well-written book and within its pages I was transported back to those simple years when the greatest challenge of the day was finding a cave where iron ore could be mined from. But the book was horribly flawed in one respect. Click link for more..

The US Presbyterian Church passed an historic ruling on Tuesday evening. They have decided to allow openly gay men and women in same-sex relationships to be ordained as clergy. This comes after a similar mandate that was to allow gay clergy was defeated two years ago.

Finally, the average layperson will be able to write and solve invisible ink messages. And not with those funny highlighters that did the rounds in the 90’s either. The CIA has no doubt allowed us all to become privy to this information because they have no need for invisible ink anymore. Data encryption has progressed somewhat.
Archaeologists have claimed they may well have found the oldest gay in the village. A 5 000 year old burial site and human remains are causing the stir and it’s got to do with the way the skeletal remains have been buried.
On Friday we discussed what the no-fly zone over Libya meant and how it would be placed into effect by the international community. “But the UN resolution is limited in its scope. It explicitly does not provide legal authority for action to bring about Gaddafi’s removal from power by military means,” explained UK Prime Minister David Cameron.

He’s written a book on the matter.

You probably read in this morning’s spice about the Saffer who played Obama’s mama in a movie and then got busted. Now, we’re used to hearing of Saffers smuggling contraband abroad but never against the backdrop of a movie featuring a young Obama playing albasters. So here, free of charge, is that movie’s trailer. An indie flick. Made in Indo. Starring a model junkie. Compulsory viewing, really.
There’s a pun in there, but if I’d been the one to write it I’d be forced to punch myself in the face, and that’s relatively difficult. Photographer John Mason has released a series of colour photos depicting Sophiatown’s destruction in ’59; they’re worth checking out on your lunch break. Pretty colours, historical relevance…take your pick.
It’s not clear how Dan Brown missed this but there’s a bunch of code hidden in Mona Lisa’s eyes. That reveals her true identity. Very clever that, Mr Da Vinci. Get us all hooked on her smile and hide all the good stuff in her eyes. Well played, sir. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got going on around the ears.
During World War 2, a dead tramp from London was shipped to Italy, given an elaborate backstory by Ian Fleming (of James Bond fame), dressed as a British soldier and supplied with fake British invasion plans. What I’m saying is he was a zombie spy. So as it happens, zombies have been du jour since the mid 1940s.
While many sportsmen spend their time in the run up to a major event practicing, James Hunt spent the 2 weeks prior to his famed 1976 win in Japan on a “round-the-clock alcohol, cannabis and cocaine binge”.
Overseas readers and locals wondering why the roads are so quiet today, will be interested to learn that today is a public holiday. “Reconciliation Day” is what they’re calling it.
