With the year rapidly drawing to a close there are various sporting awards handed out. Richie McCaw scooped the IRB player of the year award for an unprecedented third time last week, but now the lads at Keo.co.za have presented their own: The 2010 Keo.co.za Awards. Prepare yourselves for some heavy analysis and jocular categories!
The Italian Football side did it for D&G. Helen Mirren et al did it for a local hospital in the movie Calendar Girls. Now, UCT’s MC Marais XV have stripped off for charity and an annual tour. Ladies and Gentlemen (although this one is definitely more for the laydeez), I present the 2011 MC Marais Naked Calendar:
I must say that for all the cynicism surrounding recent Springbok performances, one overwhelming positive is that pundits are speaking their minds. However, after all the whingeing it’s time for some serious reflection and Jake White’s recent blog will take you through the key battles ahead of the biggest test match of the year at Twickers.
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers generously made special provision for an interview with 2oceansvibe Radio’s Seth Rotherham and Bruce Good ahead of the test between South Africa and Sotland at Murrayfield on November the 20th. You can listen to all of the high-pitched enthusiasm here, right now.
There’s literally no excuse for getting drunk and taking pictures of your team-mate’s Labrador performing a sex act on you, as Canberra Raiders winger, Joel Monaghan did. I’ve tried and I can’t think of a single scenario where that would be an appropriate course of action.
Kevin Mealamu is a talented individual. Not only is the master of getting away with blatant head butts (yawn), but also he is pretty masterful at driving a tank. Competing with fellow ABs Conrad Smith and Piri Weepu, Mealamu shows that even if he was out of rugby for months, he could combine his head butting and tank-driving skills to become quite the serviceman. It seems that social media impersonators are creating a bit of discomfort within the Springbok camp. While I’m not sure I have found any that are intended to deceive the public (and media), I did find a rather comical example dedicated to one Bakkies Botha. More after the jump.
It was with a great sense of pride that I watched the Springboks grind out the most narrow of victories against the Welsh on Saturday. While blood streamed down Huw Bennett’s face, the victorious Boks held their exhausted arms aloft. The next time we meet will be in Wellington on September 11 next year. We have a lot to look forward to.
Following their 23-21 victory against Ireland this weekend, the Springboks enjoyed a rather nippy training session at Glamorgan University on Monday in Cardiff, Wales. Photo by Duif du Toit / Gallo Images Here we see new-born child, Patrick Lambie – showing us what has been making teenage girls all over South Africa tingle in places […]
We dove deep into the Gallo Images treasure trove and unearthed these stunning pics from the Springbok Training And Media Conference session at Hyde Park High School yesterday. With the amount of flesh and six-packs going around, I think it’s fair to say that this one is for the laydezz!
This fixture has been on my mind all week. It’s been inescapable. I’ve tried to bury my head in my work but I’m genuinely concerned. If Western Province manage to negotiate their way through their Sharks bogey tomorrow, they will avoid the the possibility of daunting trips to both Bloemfontein and Durban. The situation calls for a vociferous Newlands.
That’s because the first thing that headhunted potential employees ask themselves is, “Is this company a sinking ship?” And SA Rugby, the company, is a sinking ship.
I enjoy countdown clocks. Remember that 2010 World Cup Football countdown? My God – it feels like you will never reach the end. But then, BANG, it comes and goes and on we go! I reckon we should keep an eye on this one as well, because it’s gonna move faster than you think! Are […]
Online encyclopedia and paragon of humankind’s collective knowledge, WikiPedia, has proven it’s unbridled accuracy once again. Remember the story about WikiPedia referring to Sepp Blatter as a dickhead? And how the South African presidency made the fatal error of pulling that corrupted biographical info from WikiPedia and pasted it on their site? Well, we hope […]
Current World Cup Champ, Springbok captain, the most capped rugby captain in world history and possibly BP’s only hope in stopping the oil spill, John Smit, will be joining us LIVE in the studio for 2oceansvibe Radio this Friday. John Smit receives word that he will be on 2oceansvibe Radio Besides Friday being the first […]
Were you there on the day they shot this? Or maybe your girlfriend was, with another guy? Or maybe your boyfriend said he was using his spare season ticket to take a friend. Which friend exactly did he take? Not that we should turn this into something sinister! It’s just completely amazing technology they are […]
We urge you not to send a barrage of Blue Bulls supporter images, as we are now fully aware that anything we can imagine, is possible, and has happened. Last week’s footage of a Blue Bulls supporter’s home was pretty mind-blowing and yes, we have received the images of the Blue Bulls wedding. But now […]
So the Stormers are playing the Blue Bulls this weekend at Newlands. It’s all rather exciting and I have no doubt that our boys will take the crown – it’s just a matter of you putting off the positive energy they require to do it! So about a week ago this photograph arrives in my […]
THINGS COULDN’T BE TIGHTER There are four regular-season matches left in the 2010 Super 14 before the semi-final contestants are decided and things couldn’t be tighter with nine teams still in with a mathematical chance making the play-offs and going on win the competition. There’s still plenty to play for with the top three teams […]
Iron Mike sends me stuff from time to time. He’s improved a lot, although he has, on more than one occasion, been guilty of the cardinal sin of sending me content that has already featured on 2oceansvibe. Punishable by death, if I so wished. But it’s hard to put out a hit on Iron Mike, […]
Cape Town’s most anticipated rugby social weekend, the Cape Town Tens tournament is gonna kick it just as hard, but bigger than last year. That’s correct! It’s this weekend and it’s at Hamiltons Rugby Club in Green Point. You know where that is, right? I’ll tell you – it’s next door to the Cape Town […]
The Twenty Ten Cape Town Tens! BANG! Cape Town Feb 5-7, 2010 It’s back, my friends. Cape Town’s most anticipated rugby social weekend, the Cape Town Tens tournament is gonna kick it just as hard, but bigger, than last year. Do you remember people last year talking about that weekend they had which was more […]
Springbok captain, John Smit, is currently on a whirlwind book signing tour of South Africa. From Margate to Canal Walk, fans are arriving in their droves, just to get a glimpse of the global superhero and, God willing, an autograph. Not that one should expect complete support at these events, as we witness this adorable […]
2oceansvibe Character (The Barndog), Springbok rugby captain and global superhero, John Smit, is getting to grips with his new Twitter account, as we see him cross the two week mark. Well done, Barndog! With unique insight into a world others have little chance of experiencing, we are now blessed with such glorious tweets as this […]
You might recall the complete mess that was the singing of our national anthem during the Springbok’s game against France on Friday. Well you will be pleased to know that our embassy in France has responded.. Here it is – from the South African Government’s website, in the “International Relations & Cooperation” section. Tsunami’s, Xenophobia, […]
Pretoria – The Blue Bulls won the Currie Cup at Loftus when they beat the Free State Cheetahs 36-24 in a lively and high-scoring final in which they controlled matters from the outset and were never behind. The win for Blue Bulls coach Frans Ludeke, replaced as Lions coach three years ago after a string […]
Life isn’t fair. Whiskey prices are at an all-time high. Women are branded as men. Elton John can’t adopt and Eskom bosses get disgusting bonuses. That’s just the way it is. We have to accept it. What we shouldn’t have to accept, however, is the fact that not a single Proteas name made it onto […]
It’s amazing how the world of sport ebbs and flows. This time last week I was drunk. Wait, that’s still the same. This time last week I was perched proudly on my soapbox, preaching to the world about Springbok infallibility. I was also quietly optimistic about Bafana’s match up against Deutschland and very confident about […]
Sharks Rugby have really outdone themselves this time! They’ve expanded the successful sharks brand and franchise into an online dating service. And check out the chicks they’ve got on the front page – wowzers! singlesharks.co.za Ja, look, those are obviously just promotion or Sharks girls on the right of the screen – I […]
As things hot up with Western Province Rugby’s signing of Springbok speedster and Gillette poster-boy, Bryan Habana , we contemplate how things might change for him once he moves to the Cape. Jussis, maar hy’s vinnig, neh?! Awesome dental work! He just needs to get a little bray going and he’ll be 100% […]
