The organisers of the 2012 Paralympics are worried about 300 athletes – 7% of all competitors – who are “bending the rules” in order to compete in classes where they are more likely to win gold medals.
Polio survivors from Africa have pioneered a new extreme sport that combines skateboarding and soccer to produce Skate Soccer. Now, an award-winning South African film crew is crowd-sourcing funding via Kickstarter for a documentary film about the truly remarkable sport.
2oceansvibe’s bi-weekly sports columnist, Sean Wilson, is today staring the recovery process from the hangover that the Springboks’ performance gave him this weekend. The Boks delivered what was a decidedly lackluster performance against Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday, that’s for sure.
You might have caught the story in the Sunday Times about ex-Springbok player Earl Rose and his wife (Amor) ploughing their BMW into the famous Ooskus fish & chips shop in Gordon’s Bay. Here is the CCTV footage. According to Timeslive: Dramatic video footage shows rugby player Earl Rose staggering topless from a fish and […]
As you no doubt read in the Spice this morning, the most successful Tour de France cyclist ever, Lance Armstrong, might soon be stripped of all seven of his titles. What you might have missed though, is that he’ll also have to pay back all of his accumulated winnings which amount to roughly R35 285 592!
The overly pink London games are over, and hopefully the memories of the Lisa-Simpson-giving-Bart-a-blowjob logo will soon fade. The logo for the Rio games was revealed to the world at the closing ceremony, and it turns out that there’s more to it than just the beautiful symbolism of people holding hands.
“There have been times where I would specifically give my leg or my toe a couple of really good electric shocks. That would make my blood pressure jump up and I could do more weights and cycle harder – it is effective.”
How’s this for a new low? The King of Jordan intervened in the case of three of his country’s Paralympians accused of sex crimes. The men – two wheelchair powerlifters and a trainer – are accused of sexual assault and voyeurism against women and CHILDREN. However, thanks to King Abdullah they were freed yesterday to compete in next week’s Paralympic Games.
2oceansvibe’s bi-weekly sports columnist, Sean Wilson, has been crunching the numbers. The bonus point numbers to be exact, and whether they serve any relevance.
The London 2012 Paralympics is about to get underway, and we’re still on a comedown from the 2012 London Olympics. But eight years ago, Greece spent €13 billion to stage the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. This is what some of the venues look like now.
Crossing the perilous Bering Strait under your own power is no mean feat – icy waters, massive swells and powerful ocean currents – yet Frenchman Philippe Croizon managed to do it in under two hours. Without arms or legs.
The Lions Rugby franchise has been booted into Super15 touch by the SARU bigwigs. The highly controversial and much-maligned Southern Kings will replace the Gauteng union, in a move that has been pegged more for its strategic developmental and politically expedient benefits than pure merit. IOL has more: The top four teams in the South […]
Red Bull loves to give unique opportunities to extraordinary athletes from snowboarding, skydiving, surfing, and pretty much every other “extreme sporting” background ever created. This year the Soul Flyers got to perform an amazingly choreographed flying routine in the Czech Indoor Skydive Arena.
As we all know, matric dance season is here. For hormonal teenage girls, and high schoolers in general, this is a very stressful time of the year. Even if you’ve got your dress, car, before- and after-parties, and everything in-between sorted, you’re still have to find the perfect date. So why not ask Chad le Clos?
Springbok test and SuperSport broadcaster Matt Pearce takes on questions including why they never go too hard at the players and if the unwritten rule that only Sproingbok players should ommentate, is fair. Check it out.
2oceansvibe’s man on the ground at the 2012 London Olympics, Ryan Scott, managed to get into one of the most exclusive recreational areas for athletes: the Oakley Safehouse.
2oceansvibe’s bi-weekly sports columnist, Sean Wilson, has this week found himself wondering what kind of a team player KP really is, and if “textgate” was just a convenient way for the England and Wales Cricket Board to end their relationship with him.
Watching athletes win gold at the Olympic games this year was certainly fun. Click through for some priceless happiness.
Of all the things that attract people to the Olympics, record-breaking performances are surely near the top of the list. People sit in anticipation at the venues, or huddled around TVs at home and in pubs, waiting for records which once seemed inconceivable to be smashed by the latest crop of top athletes. And then four years on, they do it again, ad infinitum, or will they?
Team SA arrived back in South Africa this morning. They landed at OR Tambo International Airport after taking part in the Olympic Games in London. They were welcomed back by a large crowd, including schoolchildren who were there to cheer for their hero’s. Our athletes brought back six medals. Check out all the action below.
Undisputed fasted man alive, Usain Bolt, is fast. Really fast. The New York Times has already compared him to every other 100m athlete that’s ever run in the 100m event, but how would he compare against something that isn’t human? Like the force of gravity?
We were this morning experiencing a rather large sport comedown at the 2oceansVibe Media Compound, but then this unbelievably inspirational Ryan Sandes video found its way into the office.
The Olympics are over, but which country really ranks where on the medal table? There is no official way of ranking the medal count because the media decides.
SARU have released new laws regarding concussions and side-of-the-field assessments. How exactly will this work and does it not open up the chance of abuse? Sides could claim a player is concussed, so that they can make a substitution. Right? Or not? Bob Skinstad and Tank Lanning discussed the ins and outs of the new laws. Click to listen.
Last night the 2012 Olympics came to a grand end with the official closing ceremony. A scale model of London took centre stage and was wrapped entirely in newspaper. Damien Hirst interpreted the Union Flag by using members of the crowd, and black London cabs performed a taxi ballet.
The Telegraph has put together what they believe to be the 10 best photographs of the Olympics so far. There are some pretty spectacular images in the selection, but I found them to be a little biased toward team Britain.
On 18 August, the Springboks will play Argentina in their opening match of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship (formerly Tri-Nations) at Newlands in Cape Town.
It takes a lot to get to the Olympics. Strict training, years of dedication and many, many sacrifices. Especially when you come from a country like Germany, where the competition to make the cut is tough. When you finally make it onto the springboard at the London Games, it must really suck to Feck it up.
It is incredible to think that we are just over halfway through the Olympics already! More than 10 000 athletes from 200 national Olympic committees around the globe are taking part, and so far dozens of Olympic and World Records have already been broken – resulting in more than 500 medals already awarded!
If you are going to be a big douche at the Olympics, don’t do it with Edith Bosch, Netherland’s world judo champion, standing next to you. Bosch put her skills to use at the 100m final on Sunday night, by hitting a moronic spectator who threw a bottle onto the track just before the race.
