Oscar Pistorius Wins 2012 Laureus World Award [PICS]

Oscar Pistorius has won the 2012 Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award. This after he became the first amputee to win a non-disabled World Championship track medal, as a member of the South African silver medal winning 4 x 400 metres relay team in South Korea. Rio de Janeiro Has Set Up The World’s Largest Urban Surveillance System

In preparation for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro has established a huge state-of-the-art surveillance space, boasting 80 interchangeable digital panels, 450 cameras, 80 square metres of surveillance screen space, and an awesome Batcave-esque name: the Control Room. I don’t know how they paid for it either.

Robot Nominated As Torchbearer For 2012 Olympics

This is just the start. Soon we’ll be giving them the vote. A three-foot-tall robot called the iCub has been nominated to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay for the 2012 London Games, partially to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Alan Turing’s birth, and partially to creep people out with three-foot-tall, fire-wielding robots.

Kenyan Olympic Marathon Champion Dies At 24

The Kenyan Olympic marathon champion, Samuel Wanjiru, was killed when he jumped off the balcony of his home late on Sunday, police have said this morning. Wanjiru appeared to have suffered internal injuries after the fall and was confirmed dead by doctors at a nearby hospital.
