Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One’s billionaire chief executive, has offered to pay more than £35 million to stage a grand prix in London. Plans are due to be announced later today for a five-kilometre route around some of London’s most famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square.
In terms of advertising, I would rather watch a race car driver catching little balls in a car going 180 miles an hour, than a dog talking from a bakkie. It’s a little silly, but definitely worth a watch, even if it is just to hear how genuinely excited Coulthard gets when he catches the ball.
This past weekend, Audi made automotive history when their E-Tron became the first hybrid car to win the the world’s biggest auto-racing endurance event, the 24-hour LeMans.
Being confirmed PUMAphiles here at 2oceansvibe, we take note when we hear of other PUMAsexuals playing so nicely. And this time it has to do with a couple of the worlds biggest and fastest brands – Ferrari Formula 1 and the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt. Listen to this: Fernando Alonso today (25 […]
This morning we reported on a fire that broke out over the weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix in the Williams team’s garage. Click through for a full picture gallery, as well as video footage, of this dramatic event.
The City of Cape Town could host a Formula One Grand Prix as early as 2014, if Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula would just agree to a meeting with the Cape Town Grand Prix SA organising committee.
I was grabbing a couple poached eggs at Cecconi’s with The Big H just off Saville Row – Mayfair – this weekend. We spotted a new white Range Rover Evoque struggling to park opposite us. The driver was a Brazilian woman and, after a few attempts, her companion jumped out to help direct her. What […]
Imagine this breathtaking moment – a grid full of Formula One cars, revving their engines and setting off with the New York City skyline as their backdrop. It has long been the dream of the Formula One to host the Grand Prix of America, and this has now finally become reality with the signing of a 10 year deal to host the race just opposite the Hudson River.
In their never-ending pursuit to find nuts, squirrels can sometimes forget to look left and right before crossing the road. The end result of this is not always nice, trust me, I work in Stellenbosch and see this daily. But check out this cheeky bugger – attempting to outrun a Lamborghini LP670-4 SV going at 160km per hour. That’s bold!
It was the Le Mans 24 hour race this weekend and somehow the Le Mans 2008 winner, Allan McNish, survived one of the most horrific motor accidents ever witnessed. Needless to say the video went viral. We will now add to this viralness and give it to you right here, right now. Follow the link […]
The FIA has reinstated the Bahrain Grand Prix on the 2011 F1 Grand Prix calendar, despite numerous independent reports of government-sponsored torture and murder of political dissidents in that country, since February 14 of this year. The FIA report, endorsing the re-institution of the event on the F1 calendar, has just been leaked, and has […]
The date has finally been announced and it’s more imminent that you might think. May 1st will be the day Richard Branson will honour the bet made back at the beginning of the 2010 Formula One season. Branson and Tony Fernandes, of Team Lotus, had wagered over whose Formula One team would place higher at the Bahrain Formula One race.
Ciro De Siena caught up with former F1 powerhouse, David Couthard this past weekend for an exclusive 2oceansvibe interview. Follow the link for a preamble of the weekend’s highlights, and the transcribed interview.
I came across this rather grisly story while watching the pilot of Boardwalk Empire this morning, which (by the way) is blaaaady marvellous viewing. Robert Kubica, the Formula 1 Renault driver, was badly injured in a rally crash in Italy on Sunday. And by ‘badly injured’ I mean surgeons had to reattach veins, tendons and muscles in his arm to save it.
If you were sitting on the fence with that condo purchase on Greenpoint, now really is the time to put an offer on the table. A number of consortiums, most notably the functionally-named Cape Town Grand Prix Bid Company are making bids to bring the F1 Grand Prix to Cape Town.
While many sportsmen spend their time in the run up to a major event practicing, James Hunt spent the 2 weeks prior to his famed 1976 win in Japan on a “round-the-clock alcohol, cannabis and cocaine binge”.
I’ll get straight to it, so listen carefully – if you deposit £40 or more into your lottery account, you will automatically stand in line to win a VIP trip to the 2010 Monaco F1 Grand Prix 2010 . But WAIT, they will double your deposit at the same time (£80) and you get to […]
I must admit I’ve been dying to do Fantastic Racing for a while now and when Cape Town Tourism invited me to a day at Killarney (same place I did the Audi Advanced Driving Course the other day) racing around in single seater racing cars, well, I couldn’t resist! This is what I found upon […]
An anonymous source dropped off a flash drive with the Cape Royale concierge, for my attention. The drive contained scans of all the documents pertaining to the recent Formula 1 scandal, involving the Renault F1 team, boss Flavio Briatore and driver Nelson Piquet Jnr. The same scandal which has resulted in Flavio’s recent immediate resignation […]
Life isn’t fair. Whiskey prices are at an all-time high. Women are branded as men. Elton John can’t adopt and Eskom bosses get disgusting bonuses. That’s just the way it is. We have to accept it. What we shouldn’t have to accept, however, is the fact that not a single Proteas name made it onto […]
Victory, we all know, is sweet at the best of times. Victory against the Wallabies, on the other hand, is similar to three courses of dessert followed by…you guessed it, dessert. Perhaps the only thing better than beating the Aussies at rugby is beating them at cricket, and after two wins against the All Blacks, […]
You’ll recall the article and video I gave you a few days ago, of Formula 1 racing driver, Felipe Massa’s accident after being hit in the head by a flying car part (here ). He nearly died but is injured and unable to continue racing in the foreseeable future. That’s all very well, but the […]
Did you hear about Formula 1 racing driver, Felipe Massa‘s vibe during qualifying for this week’s Hungary F1 Grand Prix? Ja, well, it happened. And if you haven’t heard about it, then I can promise you it is going to come up in conversation this week. Then you can stun your friends and tell them […]
With one race left in this year’s F1 championship, and the chance to watch Lewis Hamilton blow it in the very last race, I thought a little F1 post was due. Don’t get me wrong, I am genuinely a big fan of Hamilton’s. It’s more to do with the spectacle of watching the poms deal […]
