I shall not for a moment attempt to feign journalistic integrity here. This is the kind of thing the public loves. Allegations that King Carl Gustaf of Sweden has been visiting strip clubs and having affairs has the media baying for blood and the public frothing at the mouth.
Ryan Giggs is back in the media doghouse, and with good reason, it seems. Following yesterday’s news of the football star’s alleged eight year affair with his sister-in-law, his brother Rhodri has called off his marriage to wife Natasha. According to reports, Rhodri is devastated and can’t get over the extent of his very public humiliation by both wife and brother.
I can’t help it. I have to write about this. It’s too good not to write about. Insanity is always funny. In this case the insanity comes once more from the king’s jester, Julius. He said yesterday that he didn’t drive white people away from voting for the ANC, because they never voted for the ANC in the first place.
Gary Kirsten was announced as the Proteas cricket coach early this morning. Kirsten lead the Indian team to a ICB Cricket World Cup victory earlier in the year, and was hailed by players and administrators in that country as one of the greatest coaches ever to walk an Indian change room.
Disappointed with smug Sepp? Never fear, the interweb has a little something to ease that feeling for you on this, the hour that we officially welcome in the Cape Town Friday Rule. Sink Sepp allows players to fire cannons packed with exploding footballs at the Fifa boss while he tries to sail his ship.
In the most ironic professional move since Cope’s formation as an answer to political party infighting and corruption, the editor of Playboy South Africa has resigned, citing concerns that the magazine would descend into smut and vice.
Loyal 2oceansVibers will know that it was barely three months ago when the lovely Tracy McGregor joined The Morning Meeting, in studio, to tell all about gracing the inaugural cover of Playboy SA (sneak peak here). No reasons have been made public yet, but yesterday the magazine’s editor Peter Piegl announced his resignation on twitter.
The moment was like that of a bedraggled and thirsty bandito stumbling across a well in the middle of the Mexican desert. Or Henry Stanley finally finding Dr. David Livingstone. It was catharsis. It was all I could do to stop myself from sinking to my feet and sobbing gently, right there on the sidewalk of 14th Street. I was standing in front of a bona-fide, American issue 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. Click link for rest of article.
Last month we told you that Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was spotted in Cape Town. But what is he doing here? If you guessed having sundowners in Camps Bay or playing with the cheetahs at Spier, you would be incorrect. According to the upcoming edition of Heat Magazine, he is currently a guest at Montrose Place. Yes, as in, the rehab facility.
In an exclusive interview with 2oceansvibe, the CEO of South Africa’s 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee, Danny Jordaan has revealed today that the SA World Cup’s financial statements support the tournament’s perceived success. Jordaan confirmed, “In today’s forthcoming AGM, the Operations Report and Financial Report will confirm that the SA World Cup shows a total revenue […]
In my humble opinion, Formula One is a sport unparalleled in prestige, tradition, wealth, gamesmanship, sportsmanship and simple, old fashioned bravado. Sure, it’s had its low moments over the years, but name me a sport which hasn’t. The thing is, all this doesn’t automatically mean good entertainment. However in 2011, they really have got it right. Here’s why.
My extensive collection of sunglasses is well documented, and I can tell you right now, without hesitation, that this new pair of Persol “Steve McQueen‘s” from Sunglass Hut is EASILY one of my favourites. They are the epitome of ‘classic’ and the contrast of the light tortoiseshell frames against the blue lenses make me so […]
We were lucky enough to be featured in the Lifestyle section of today’s Sunday Times, in a piece written by everyone’s favourite columnist, Lin Sampson. In the article, entitled “The End Of Radio As We Know It,” Lin confirms that Tim Harris, the DA’s Shadow Minister of Trade & Industry, is the only person in politics that one […]
A user at reddit.com promised that he’d put up a billboard in response to Harold Camping’s failed billboard campaign that claimed the rapture was on its way. The billboard reads: “That was awkward”. Somewhat of an understatement I think.
The family of slain photographer Anton Hammerl have published the letter that they have written to President Jacob Zuma ahead of his trip to Libya for “discussions” with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi next week. It’s hoped that this will put further pressure on Zuma to ensure the secure return of Hammerl’s remains to South Africa.
Having covered off flyhalves and loose forwards thus far over the past weeks, Morrey continues to select his Bok world cup squad, position by position. This week’s selection focuses on the back three – best done as a unit as some players can oscillate between wing and fullback.
A car launch is a wonderful thing, and I do my utmost to appreciate every aspect of it. The flights, the airport lounges, the car itself, the expensive hotel, the expensive food, and then all of that repeated on day two. And every now and then a manufacturer will just fire the accountant and go nuts. Which, I imagine, is exactly what I’ve just experienced on the national launch of the BMW 6-Series Convertible.
The much anticipated The Hangover comedy sequel, The Hangover… wait for it… Part II has finally arrived and feels so much like the first one, that the only thing that’s really changed is the location, groom-to-be and movie title. So in keeping with the movie’s formula for success… we just updated The Hangover movie review […]
That’s right. This is a Public Service Announcement. The Fish are off on a European tour in a matter of days, and you won’t be able to catch them live in South Africa until October. That’s right. Don’t say we didn’t warn you. Check out the details below for their last SA pre-tour gig. Date: […]
Barack and Michelle Obama received the royal-est of welcomes today in London, when they visited Buckingham Palace to meet with Prince William and new wife, Duchess Catherine. The Obamas were greeted by the Queen and Prince Philip, then enjoyed a short display of pomp and ceremony by the palace guards. Here’s a little video of how that went down.
Maybe it is time for Karl Lagerfeld to stop being weird. If it is not making a life-size, chocolate sculpture of his boyfriend six decades younger than him, then it’s fashion fails like this. The male “urban turban”, also known as the “murban” is what Karl is hoping metrosexuals worldwide will be sporting this winter. Pic of bf Baptiste Giabiconi wearing one inside.
In my Grade Eight IsiZulu class, our set book was a novel set in the early 1800s. It was a fictionalised account of what the Iron Age existence of a tribe living in KwaZulu Natal would have been like – before the white man arrived in his ships; even before Shaka Zulu’s fearsome warriors began their raiding expeditions. It was a well-written book and within its pages I was transported back to those simple years when the greatest challenge of the day was finding a cave where iron ore could be mined from. But the book was horribly flawed in one respect. Click link for more..
‘Leaps and bounds’, you could say. 2oceansvibe Media is proud to announce the launch of our all-new 2oceansvibe Radio website. The latest offering is fully interactive and apart from detailed schedules and pages for each show (from Colin Moss and Mark Bayly, to Rob Van Vuuren, Natalie Becker and Vanessa Haywood), you are also able […]
ANC Nelson Mandela Bay chairperson Nceba Faku encouraged more than 100 party members to burn down Port Elizabeth’s The Herald newspaper as he celebrated the party’s election victory outside the Port Elizabeth City Hall on Thursday night. Faku said the party was celebrating an “important battle that is between the ANC and the media”.
Both Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Arnold Schwarzenegger are the latest in a long line of high profile men who have allowed the smaller of their two heads to gain the upper hand when making crucial decisions. Their fall is especially tragic when one considers the elegance of a simple solution. [Click link for more]
We all have our lapses of judgment. But some of us make such horrendously poor decisions that one simply has to ask, “What were they on?”. Every week we bring you three contenders in what can only be described as a battle of small wits. So, with great pleasure we present this week’s three La […]
A few weeks ago I dropped off La Muse at Cape Town International airport, ahead of her buying trip to three corners of the world. We ate at the Spur (as you do) and when I paid for my parking ticket I was shocked to see I had been charged R105. I didn’t have the […]
Car Magazine’s May issue is ever so slightly different from previous incarnations. Sure, there’s a hot car on the cover. The typeface “CAR” is as red, and bold, as ever. All of the usual sluglines are there. And then you notice this QR code at the bottom left-hand corner of the cover.
Wow. Alright. Apple gave the the green light to a mobile app that promises to connect rich old dudes with young women. Sugar daddies with gold diggers. Seriously. They call themselves SugarSugar, “the world’s most effective and discreet place for finding Sugar Daddy and Sugar Baby relationships.”
Surely if you were paid to act as the TV match official to assist a referee controlling a rugby game, you would pride yourself on your capacity to communicate. You don’t have to run anywhere; you don’t have to blow anything and you don’t even have to get out of your pyjamas for the Lord’s sake. All you need do is watch the game and share an opinion if asked. Easier money than a Bangkok rub ‘n tug parlour operator. Click for more.
