It’s not clear exactly what Amy was on when she performed in Belgrade on Saturday night, but whatever it was, it was a lot. During her 90 minute performance, Winehouse managed to mumble mostly and may have even hallucinated a few times too. The next few legs of her European tour have obviously been cancelled.

An accident has left a woman in a critical condition after musician and Idols presenter ProVerb, whose real name is Tebogo Thekisho, knocked her over on Wednesday morning while driving home from his early morning show on a local radio station. Details of the cause of the accident are yet to emerge.

Leon Botha, aka DJ Solarize, Dies At Age 26

Painter and musical performer Leon Botha, best known for featuring in the music video of Die Antwoord’s ‘Enter The Ninja’, passed away on Sunday, one day after celebrating his 26th birthday. Botha was diagnosed at an early age with progeria, which lowers life expectancy drastically. Despite this,he lived a longer and fuller life than most thought possible.

It must have been on 29 April or thereabouts and I had decided to see what was happening in town with a friend of mine. Thinking that it was dubstep night, I suggested to my friend that we should go to Kitchener’s Carvery Bar in Braamfontein. We arrived there at around 23h00, only to discover that no, it wasn’t dubstep night, but rather live band night. Not to worry, I thought, it would take a really bad band to ruin Kitchener’s on any night.

Purple Hearts Release First Video – Shot In Single Take

Videophiles will appreciate the release of the Purple Hearts’ first music video, which was shot in a single take. Gen Akal doubled as the director, and editor of the video, with Tim Henny acting as DP. Between them they managed to capture almost two and a half minutes of uninterrupted footage over the 200 metre route. The entirety of the video was shot on foot, concluding with an elevated shot from a cherry picker. Check out the video after the jump!

To get to my mother’s desk I had to walk through a curio shop. It was one of those dreadfully cheesy African curio shops, with the carved wooden and stone animals, the beads and the bowls, like you find at any South African airport, the Moyo restaurants and the Durban beachfront. I have that exact same feeling (as if I’m back in that curio shop) when I come across certain music videos made by South African bands. What is with this new trend with our bands who think that by merely smearing white face paint across their videos it will make them mysterious and exotic?
