Experiment, smoke a joint, have a threesome, get a tattoo… go mad, whatever advice your parents give you, they’ll never be there for you like a roommate. You share some of the best years of your life, living space, body space and on special occasions, each other’s partners. That’s what makes ‘The Roommate’ so intensely […]
No Strings Attached is not about puppets. It’s a film about friends with benefits or f**k buddies, a fairly new term that has developed over the last twenty years. It’s that agreed upon relational state that prioritizes sex over intimacy in a peer-to-peer network relationship. Some would say this describes how every relationship they’ve been […]
Ron Jeremy markets a rum brand called Ron Jeremy. If you know who Ron Jeremy is, accept that you’re sort of curious and click through to know more; if you don’t, please believe me when I say it’s better to be ignorant about this kind of thing.
This, apparently, is what happens when you let Zack Snyder write his own script without any male genitalia to jiggle in slow-motion – $19 million on the opening weekend of an $89 million film. This means Sucker Punch opened behind ‘Diary of A Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules,’ the sequel to a film nobody watched.
This looks to be pretty rad – a look at the the lives of four photojournalists working in South African townships between 1990 and 1994, based on the book of the same name written by two of the original group. Unfortunate accents aside, the cast and crew are looking pretty rad. Checkit.
Just Go With It is more than just a movie title, it’s advice for the audience. After 20 odd years of friendship between Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, the two stars have finally done a movie together! The delay could have due to the pair not being a natural on-screen match. On the other hand, […]
20 May sees the worldwide release of the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. We can bring you the very first South African look at Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ official film posters. You’re welcome.
Did you get a slightly uneasy feeling when you discovered Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl was a Disney movie? Mild surprise may be a better description, well – you may have experienced a similar feeling when you found that Captain Jack Sparrow, better known as Johnny Depp, is Rango. That’s right… […]

Many a time have my friends and I sat down and battled with our wits, arguing over which comedy movie is the best of all time. We need no longer argue, as the good readers of College Humor have voted on what the top 100 comedies of all time are. I mostly agree , except that Anchorman is number one, fact!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? It’s Wednesday – so it must be an alien invasion. In Hollywood, alien invasions have become even more commonplace than UFO sightings. Just over the last few years, there’s been a resurgence in alien interest – spurred on by the success of movies like […]
Wow. Okay. So a Swedish company wants to make burials more eco-friendly by freezing dead people in liquid nitrogen, using sound waves to shatter the ice before drawing all the moisture out of the remains with a vacuum. Because the Swedish word for ‘eco-friendly’ also means ‘traumatic’ and ‘awesome.’
With Charlize Theron and District 9 getting all the sunshine, I think we tend to forget that there are thousands of South Africans globally doing sick things. Like Ari Kruger – his short film, Focus was chosen as one of the finalists of Australia’s Tropfest 2011. This is the biggest short film festival in the world, and what’s more impressive is that Ari’s film was the only non-Australian film on the list. High five!
2oceansvibe caught up with the director of the biggest forthcoming sci-fi film of the year, Battle: Los Angeles. Jonathan Liebesman is a born and bred Joburg boy making big waves in Hollywood, and an avid Proteas fan. With subject matter ranging from film research and alien weaponry, to comparisons with contemporary director Christopher Nolan and […]
Attention all Star Wars acolytes: your beloved messiah, George Lucas, has decided to milk even more money out of you. Yes, he’s re-releasing the entire series again, but this time in 3D. All of which will make him richer than Rupert Murdoch and Oprah combined.
This has Blood Diamond 2 written all over it. In fact I’m going to tweet DiCaprio about this just as soon as I finish writing this piece. Don’t you want to hear more of Danny Archer’s bru’s and boets too? Either way, this is a big diamond we are talking about.
The S-Train Steve Jobs Unveils New iPad – Apple Inc. For those of you who don’t already know, there’s a new Afrikaans vampire movie currently in production, Bloedsuier! And in a rather bold move to secure funding producers are now calling on fans to become investors in the movie.
Drive Angry 3D is a Nicolas Cage movie. Born Nicholas Kim Coppola, the actor has racked up quite the reputation, earning a Best Actor Oscar for his role in Leaving Las Vegas and then a nomination for Adaptation. Frankly, it was the worst best thing that could have happened to his film career.
In case you guys were worried that you wouldn’t be seeing Anne Hathaway in vinyl leather anytime soon, fear not: Hathaway has confirmed that she’s been cast as Selina Kyle in The Dark Night Rises, the third in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Please don’t talk about Halle Berry.
Take us to your leader. We come in peace. ET phone home. They don’t say much, but they sure know how to get to the point! ‘The X-Files’ knew “The Truth Is Out There” with dramatised cases of real government conspiracies and where there’s smoke, there’s a smouldering alien spacecraft. Don’t just take it from […]
While I may not have agreed with all the Oscar winners, I certainly can’t argue with the prizes dished out at the Golden Rasberry Awards on Saturday night (Razzies for short). The Razzies, for those of you out of the loop, honour the worst films of the year, giving the likes of ‘Sex and the City 2’ and ‘The Last Airbender’ their chance to shine.
If you have not watched “The Hangover” then there is something wrong with you, as it’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and I have very good taste. Thankfully the producers of “The Hangover” have seen it fit for us to be granted a new Hangover movie, aptly entitled “The Hangover 2”. Here’s the first sneak peak.
Boxing is one of those sports that has fascinated Hollywood for ages… It’s easy to see how the blood, sweat and tears shed in the boxing ring could inspire films like Raging Bull and Rocky. Yet, the real drama happens outside the ring in preparation, training, media speculation and in betting circles.
Street artist, Banksy, who has been nominated in the best documentary category for Exit Through The Gift Shop, has been told by the Academy award chiefs that he can’t attend the Oscars in disguise. Once again proving that the Academy are really just like a retiree committee, only richer.
Well hey, this could be fun. Since Jon Favreau – director of Iron Man and its sequel – decided not to sign on for the series’ third installment, Marvel’s been on the hunt for a suitable replacement, and it looks like Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is the guy.
Let’s get this straight; 3D is just another means of resurrecting a spluttering film industry by charging you double the price for films with half the plot. Hollywood’s done it before, and they’ll keep doing it. But, just in case you needed another reason to hate 3D, turns out that Nazis were watching 3D propaganda films long before Avatar.
Would you cut your own arm off to save your life? That’s what it all boils down to in 127 Hours, an adventure-thriller and spirited drama starring James Franco and directed by Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle. The film is an adaptation of Between a Rock and a Hard Place, a biographical account of now famous […]
The overwhelming flop that was Spider-Man 3 must have sparked serious hatred amongst die-hard fans of the comics. By all accounts it was one of the lamest movies ever produced, with as much caseoso as each of Christopher Reeves’ Superman films and 10 seasons of Smallville combined. That said, a reboot of Spider-Man is set for release next year and the title and promo-picture have been released.
That headline just about says it all. Justin Bieber’s 3D documentary, ‘Never Say Never’, took $30.3 million in its opening weekend at the US box office. Apparently 60% of its audience were women under the age of 18. Surprising, that.
