Chaos erupted on the set of the new Sandra Bullock film this morning after a bus crashed into a movie production truck. And just in case you were wondering, no, she is not busy filming Speed 3. Six ambulances arrived at the scene within five minutes and put five passengers, who were lying on the sidewalk, in neck braces before rushing them to hospital.

Sony is in the process of rebooting the subervisve, anti-fascist 1997 film Starship Troopers – also known as the movie with a post-Doogie Howser, pre-Barney Stinson Neil Patrick Harris. The reboot follows the trend of such franchise remakes as RoboCop and Total Recall, where satire and irony get cut out and replaced with 3D and totally slick graphics.

‘Robot and Frank’ stars Frank Langella as an old man forging an unlikely bond with his Peter Sarsgaard-voiced robot butler, which starts off as an odd-couple comedy and then turns into a heist film, because Langella used to be a jewel thief. South African director, Oliver Hermanus, is out to make waves again when he begins work on The Well. His most recent success came in the form of the Afrikaans film, Skoonheid, that debuted at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2011. The Well will see Hermanus reteam with Didier Costet, his French producer-distributor on Skoonheid.

South African Doccie, “Dear Mandela” Wins Big At Brooklyn Film Festival

The South African documentary Dear Mandela, directed by Dara Kell and Christopher Nizza, won the Grand Chameleon Award for best film and documentary at the closing night ceremony of the festival.
The documentary continues to impress audiences after it won best South African Documentary at the Durban International Film Festival last year.

Ridley Scott’s long-awaited science-fiction film Prometheus has crash-landed. Prometheus was initially intended as a direct prequel to Alien, but has been set apart as a stand-alone work within the Alien universe. This sudden change in direction suggests that there may have been some serious problems during filming, something that Scott may have done in an attempt to salvage Prometheus and its crew from the fire.

They’ve got 130 South African filmmakers attending, the largest SA delegation ever to go to Cannes, showcasing 12 feature films and eight documentaries – including Otelo Burning, by the guys who did Surfing Soweto.

Director Spike Lee has cast Sharlto Copley as the key villain in his remake of Oldboy, Park Chan-wook’s brutal thriller about a businessman who, after being kidnapped on his daughter’s birthday, hardens himself for revenge during his years of imprisonment. Lee had initially offered the roles to Christian Bale, Clive Owen, and Colin Firth.
