One of South Africa’s most prominent cyclists, David George, has been caught with his hand in the needle jar, testing positive for the banned performance enhancing drug, EPO. He faces a charge of doping, and the scorn of people wearing spandex in coffee shops, everywhere. Thus spake the CEO of the South African Institute for […]
Lance Armstrong might want to consider selling his private jet (above), as it looks like the insurance firm who paid out all his Tour de France win bonuses, want their money back. They were always talking about it, but now they’re REALLY doing it..
It seems Cycling South Africa is more concerned about prizes and competitive cycling, than safety on our roads. Surely the ACTUAL law should be more important than a SPORT’S law? Or do you only take something seriously when your now-fallen saviour Lance is involved? Read on…
And just like that, fourteen years of Lance Armstrong’s career have been wiped from the record books. In addition to losing his titles, the International Cycling Union has banned Armstrong from the sport for life, citing “insurmountable evidence” that Armstrong used performance enhancing drugs over the course of his career, and in every one of […]

It’s official: Lance Armstrong will step down as the chairman of Livestrong, his cancer-fighting charity, so that the group can focus on its mission, and not on its founder’s problems.
Lance Armstrong’s former team mate Tyler Hamilton said in a BBC radio documentary yesterday that during the 1999 Tour de France, Armstrong paid a motorcyclist to deliver the banned bloodbooster EPO to him.
That’s not a misprint folks, NASA astronaut Sunita Williams recently ran, swam and cycled in space the same distance as her earthbound counterparts would have done in the Nautica Malibu Triahtlon, which was held in Southern California.
As you no doubt read in the Spice this morning, the most successful Tour de France cyclist ever, Lance Armstrong, might soon be stripped of all seven of his titles. What you might have missed though, is that he’ll also have to pay back all of his accumulated winnings which amount to roughly R35 285 592!
On Friday, cyclists from the “Critical Mass” cycling campaign defied police instructions not to go ahead with their monthly cycle on the eve of the Olympic opening ceremony. This ended up in brawls between police officers and cyclists in central London, resulting in 130 people being arrested.
There’s a new documentary coming out this month called Line of Sight. While standard cyclists drive me mental (only because I am convinced I am going to run one over unintentionally) these guys are even worse.
We’ve been following the Avis Unogwaja team challenge here at 2oceansVibe. Last time we caught up with the team on their 1 677-kilometre trip from Cape Town to Pietermaritzburg, they were in Cradock. They still had 855 kilometres, and six days to go, as well as a Comrades Marathon to run. The team had been […]

It’s that time of the year again when thousands of lycra-clad cyclists descend on the Mother City for the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour. Capetonians, your road closures begin tomorrow, so here is what you need to be aware of.
Following on from the news that Albert de Wet’s track, “Bikin’ RSA” was initially sent to media as the official song of the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, and then sternly rejected by officials from the organisation, we suggest that bikers across the country rally around this song ahead of the big race […]
If you didn’t manage to get a load of the 2012 Argus Cycle Tour Campaign Song, which was branded by an apparent majority as both “revolting” and “embarrassing,” it’s too late I’m afraid – they’ve pulled it. This may well be the first instance in South African sporting history that an official song has been […]
This is the official song for the 2012 Argus. Here’s a little info on the artist, Albert de Wet. Albert de Wet was introduced to the music industry in 2007, with the release of his debut Afrikaans album, Dagboek van ‘n Dromer. Ironically though, it was his English track, Within Walls, that put him on […]
According to our latest survey, 40% of our 2oceansvibe readers indulge in these elaborate spinning classes taking place on our roads – ie. ‘cycling.’ And so I felt it pertinent to mention this deal I found at Groupon, which gets you 51% off at (what is apparently) a popular online cycling shop, called buycycle.co.za. I […]
A bus driver has been jailed after he used his vehicle to ram a cyclist off the road – catapulting the rider three metres through the air, and resulting in a broken leg and fractured wrist. Moments prior to the collision, the two had an argument at a roundabout, with the cyclist said to have “tugged at one of the bus’ windscreen wipers.” Checkout a video of the incident after the jump.
Here’s a little video from the people at peopleforbikes.org. If you’re a cyclist, this will make your chest warm with the delight of an extra ten kilometers on a crisp autumn morning. If you’re not a fan, then please make sure you’re sitting down, because this much shit that cyclists say in one go will induce a rage blackout. Believe me.
A 2oceansViber sent us this report regarding an upcoming prawn gathering in Johannesburg. Yesterday morning, a bunch of them hit the morning traffic on foot, yet still wearing their helmets. Their agenda? To apologise in advance for Sunday’s 94.7 Momentum Cycle Challenge, and to present motorists with alternative routes to get around the city. They also urged drivers to #SmileDammit
German drivers and pedestrians have begun to get really upset with the behaviour of a vast majority of the cycling population inhabiting the streets around the country. German statisticians have revealed that one in three urban accidents involved a bicycle last year, with one in four being deadly.

This morning I spotted yet another cyclist going through a red traffic light on Somerset Road in Green Point. I drove alongside the cyclist (after the light had turned green) and I asked him who exactly he thought he was. The guy completely freaked out and told me, categorically, that the law states that cyclists […]
Swedish designers have made a cycling helmet that isn’t totally obnoxious, which is pretty great. It won an award. Understand that no matter how nice this helmet is, it still isn’t okay to wear this guy indoors, because that’s rude. Still, it just won the Index:Award, the largest monetary prize for design in the world.
Vilnius is the capitol city of Lithuania – a place where they feel very strongly about cars wrongly parked in specifically allocated bicycle lanes. In this clip the city’s mayor, Arturas Zuokas, can be seen literally crushing an “illegally parked” luxurious blue Mercedes – with an armored vehicle!
Toyota and bicycle maker, Parlee have developed a bike that can read your mind. The Prius X Parlee changes gears by registering the cyclist’s brain waves, through the use of an experimental iPhone app and a fancy thought sensitive helmet.
