We tend to forget the privilege that is Freedom of Speech. Countries like China, who are ruled by an oppressive one-party regime, face daily instances of censorship – especially on their social media sites.
Wian Bonthuyzen, the former Media24 manager of community newspapers in Media24’s Volksblad stable, had some damning evidence against Media24 – and like any slimy old man, he tried to get Media24 to pay him off before he went to the Competition Tribunal.
A week ago we covered a story about Google pulling its advertising from The Pro Afrikaans Action Group (Praag),and how the site may well go to ruin now that it cannot generate any advertising revenue. You might remember them as the organisers of Red October.
It seems appropriate that these images should emerge now, what with a full-length feature film about JFK nearing release. Captured just a few minutes before, and then hours after the assassination, they allow us a glimpse into the reality of the event.
As the shopfront of of Radovan Krejcir’s bombed-out Money Point cash for gold premises in Bedfordview smouldered yesterday evening, a heavily arm man standing with the grieving relatives of the victims muttered, “Blood will flow. I tell you, now blood will flow.”
This is one of those (strangely comforting) stories that remind you how kak it is to be a celebrity sometimes. All Alec Baldwin wanted to do was hang out, you know, live his life. But after being repeatedly stalked by aspiring actress Genevieve Sabourin, he was forced to take her to court to make it stop.
Instagram just isn’t the fun, family-friendly service that it used to be. The Facebook-owned platform had some problems a few weeks ago when it was found that users were selling guns via the photo-sharing app. Now though, if you wanted to buy a little bit of drugs to go with your guns, you need not even leave the Instagram app – it’s all there.
This is something straight out of the Daily Sun. Bethany Arceneaux, 29, was kidnapped last Wednesday afternoon by her ex-boyfriend (and father of her son), Scott Thomas. Happily, her family was so determined to see her safe and sound that they executed a dangerous rescue mission by themselves.
We often tend to lambaste the SAPS on this site, but we do also give recognition when recognition is due. And sincere praise is due to one Beauty-Queen Nchabeleng, who went deep undercover to nab a rapist, and make our country that little bit safer.

In September, we released a story that lamented South Africa’s worsening crime statistics. At the time of release, those statistics were considered to be ‘the worst crime statistics in 10 years’. It turns out that the reality is a lot more worse than worst.

If you’re the grandson of a Nobel Peace Prize winner and all-round good guy, the world kind of expects you to be at least somewhat good-natured, yourself. Such was the expectation that weighed on Mandla Mandela’s shoulders. Furthermore, as Madiba’s eldest grandchild, you’re also expected to handle your affairs with a certain degree of maturity. Sadly, despite the expectations, Mandla managed to mess it all up. Quite badly.
Just after we published the article on Mango Airlines and their case with the ASA, we had a little squizz on their website to see if they had obeyed the ASA’s ruling – and we found something that might be of interest.

If you recall, we posted a story last week about Kanye West’s showstopping proposal to Kim Kardashian. Later, we managed to acquire some actual video footage of the proposal – and it is that video footage that is now involved in a major court case, where Kim K is looking to sue YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley for posting a video of the proposal online at his new Internet venture MixBit.

There have been rumours about this sort of transaction happening for a while now – but sources in Russia have just confirmed that a deal has very definitely been sealed. What’s more, police have given the lucky lady the green light, claiming that the transaction, “does not fit into a description of the ‘Prostitution’ clause.” Really? It doesn’t?

Everybody knows the the people at News Of The World are a bunch of lying, hacking, no-good, low-lifes – but it needs to be proven in court before any punitive action can be taken. And now, former News International (NOTW’s parent company) chief executive, Rebekah Brooks, stands accused by the prosecution of orchestrating a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by using News International employees and resources to hide or destroy notebooks, computers and emails that would prove that NOTW had repeatedly broken the law.
Our collective fascination with the extra-terrestrial is never-ending. We always seem to be able to come up with new ways of tricking ourselves into believing that there are indeed aliens floating around earth. Whether it’s crop-circles, weird lights in the sky or strange things in the water – we are constantly reminded that more often than not, we’re just spooking ourselves. This time, it’s the American drones that are to blame.
Look, it couldn’t have been helped. You’ve had a busy few weeks at work, and you let the Rob Ford drug scandal pass you by. Understandable. But now that it has blown up, your knowledge-gap is becoming a liability in social situations. Get up to speed, fast.
Woah-hoh! Looks like Bieber has grown up somewhat and is developing a taste for expensive women. The pint-sized pop star was apparently visiting one of Rio Di Janeiro’s biggest brothels, Centauros, and photographers rushed to the scene to catch him before he left. The 19 year-old pop star and his friend spent more than three hours in the popular whorehouse — before leaving with two women, sources said.
Imagine, if you will, the cat lady in ‘The Simpsons’. Take that archetype, transmute her into reality and make her Polish – this will give you a good idea of the lady who was recently found to have 100 dead cat bodies in her home. She’s no ordinary cat lady. Looking to elevate herself above the competition, she took her crazy to the next level when she attempted to create “a new cat species” in her basement.
It’s always tetchy when it comes to copyright infringement of musical elements. You could,on the one hand, argue that nothing is an original in the first place, and that every piece of music somehow borrows from others. But then again, there are some clear-cut cases of copycat music. This time, we have two of Marvin Gaye’s children in the one corner, and Robin Thicke in the other.

We all like to cause a bit if chaos on Grand Theft Auto sometimes, you know, really push the boat out in the most anarchic way possible. Beat up pedestrians, murder some sex workers, steal some cars – the usual. Now, having an elderly person play GTA is a novelty enough in itself. But having an elderly person, a granny no less, go on a violent rampage that would put some of the most rebellious teenagers shame – now that’s a show.
After the story we published today about the brutal murder of a pupil in a schoolground, we can understand if you don’t want to read any more grim stories about schoolyard violence – but we have to get this out there if there is any hope of stopping it. We’ve just found a clip of an Eastern Cape School teacher lashing her students after a lesson – it’s pretty rough.
