The finance minister Pravin Gordhan is not someone you’d want to take to the U2 concert. He might allow a brief period of foot tapping during one of their 80’s classics, but mostly he’d be working out how much the tour had swelled the country’s coffers and observe the discretionary spending habits of the assembled revellers.
That’s why he’s the head bean counter, and long may that last.
In a shockingly innovative move, Dutch clothing company Suit Supply has released an ad campaign showing ruggedly handsome men wearing suits while in the company of half-naked women. Now everybody’s buzzing about how sexist the campaign is, which I’m sure has Suit Supply’s advertising department terribly upset. Maybe they’ll ask some half-naked women to calm them down. Careful, it gets quite steamy after the jump…
Wow, people are still not happy about that chick's post on Marie Claire's website about fat people 'grossing her out'. So how do the public plan on displaying their distaste? Do the exact thing that grosses her out right outside her offices.
Some might say he is a villain, to others he is a hero. Say what you want about Jordan Belfort – his story is phenomenal. Which is probably why ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’ became a bestseller the moment it went to print. He was a multimillionaire at 26 and was in jail at 36. Fill in the gaps with yachts, jets, parties, drugs and high-class hookers. Catch him live on-air this morning! Follow link to tune in.
Axe Cop is different to every other comic, if for nothing else than it’s written by Malachai Nicolle, whose name probably means nothing to you because he is only five years old! With characters like Avocado Man and Dinosaur Soldier, it’s a shoe-in to become my new favourite thing.
Everyone’s favourtie SKY News anchor, Charlotte Hawkins, will be joining the 2oceansvibe Radio team LIVE on Thursday morning, towards the end of the breakfast show. You might recall we first made contact with Charlotte earlier on this year, via a tongue-in-cheek article about her newsroom crush..
How’s that heading? Well it is the heading that was given to an article written on Marie Claire’s website. And man oh man has it caused some fat people to get really really angry.
With the help of modern technology, I was able to jet into the future and conduct an interview with SA celebrities, Jeannie D and Loyiso! This interview should only be for publication in 2050, but I thought I would give you a taste anyway! And my goodness, have things changed around here! It seems Jeannie […]
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I sat in a mid-priced family car outside a pub. Having read the AA Guide to Southern England, and finished my bag of crisps and bottle of Coke, I waited patiently for my parents..
Thousands of politically-minded Kiwis have come out in protest to prevent production of the Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit, from moving out of New Zealand. I understand completely – I went through the same thing when my parents made me stop wearing my wizard outfit to school.
The BBC has long been regarded as the calm and steady hand guiding the British public. Its objective, measured approach to the news has long been its appeal.
In an attempt to change the public’s perception of them, one of their senior reporters goes absolutely mental on a protesters sign.
We love mary jane. Spider-Man loves Mary Jane. We love Spider-Man. In particular, we love Emma Stone, the angel from Zombieland and Superbad, who’ll be playing Peter Parker’s love interest in the rebooted Spider-Man film.
There are some pictures of her. You might want to keep your web shooters handy.
Many of you will know Chris Achola from Caprice, but little did you know he has quietly been working on ‘POZnews,’ the country’s first health magazine focusing on infectious diseases. The magazine aims to educate and inform those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Marketers and advertisers are urged to book for the launch of this breakthrough publication. Taj hotel, Thursday 18h30. Follow link for contact details.
This is hysterical. The US ‘Parents Television Council” (God help us all) has slammed the latest US GQ Magazine for publishing pictures which “border on pedophilia.” And I assure you it’s not to do with the cover! The gaggle of bored ultra-conservatives were referring to a photo shoot the legendary magazine did with the cast of Glee, a high-school-musical type series that is probably also showing on local screens (I wouldn’t know – but can confirm it is on Apple TV). Follow the link for more on the story + all the pics..
The End Of The Line is this year’s most vaunted environmental documentary. Brought to South Africa by Investec, the internationally-acclaimed film is a stark and uncompromising look at our systematic pillaging of our oceans, the effects of which will hit us harder and sooner than we anticipated. 2oceansvibe Radio will be chatting to the film’s producer and author of the book by the same name, Charles Clover, as well as giving away ten tickets to the film. Details after the jump.
As you may have noticed, the classic turntable and vinyl records are back! Any search on the net for Rega turntables will return rave reviews and place it in the highest order for home turntables. 2oceansvibe Radio is luckily enough to have the Rega P3 turntable in the studio (courtesy of i-fi.co.za – located in the Cape Quarter Lifestyle Village) and even more amazing is the interview we have managed to secure with founder and owner, Roy Gandy. The interview will be conducted by SA Rock legend, Rupert Mellor (McCully Workshop). Oh, and YES, we will be playing some vinyl on air! Follow link for times and instructions how to tune in!
A massive thank you to GQ for bestowing the Best Dressed Man In South Africa award. We touched on it earlier on in the week, but didn’t get a chance to get the pics up (for my mum to see, to tell the truth). You can check them all out in the November issue which has dual covers – one of Christina Aguilera, and one of football genius, Jose Mourinho. So, in the meantime, here is one they took as I realised my fly was down. Whoops!
A student has reinvented the good old Rick-roll in one of the best ways imaginable by turning his essay into the classic bait and switch meme from a few years ago. Check out the essay after the jump.
The legendary Canadian actor, Gordon Pinsent, reads us his favorite parts from musical monolith Justin Bieber’s memoirs. Bieber has a tremendous amount to say about his 16 years of experience, and we are grateful for his sharing with us.
If you value your freedom of speech, you may want to get involved in voicing your disapproval against The Man’s attempts to throw a black curtain over every mote of data it feels tetchy about. If you couldn’t be bothered to pipe up, then I suppose you won’t be losing much in the transition to a police state, anyhow. That’s right kids, we’re talking about the Secrecy Bill.
Remember An Inconvenient Truth? You watched it, right? This may shock you, but the vast majority of the planet we live on is constituted of aquatic environments, and inhabited by aquatic species. A new film premiering in South Africa later this month, The End Of The Line, is An Inconvenient Truth for the ocean. [VIDEO]
The Simpsons have been hiding a religious agenda, apparently. Sunday’s edition of L’Osservatore Romano, the Vatican’s daily broadsheet, declared that ”Not many people know it, and he does everything he can to hide it. But it’s true, Homer J. Simpson is Catholic.” I guess drawing conclusions from nonexistent evidence isn’t entirely new to the region.
At a glittering function, coincidentally held at Seth’s Johannesburg residence, The Westcliff Hotel, GQ last night hosted the Best Dressed Men In SA Awards. And what an evening it was, as the who’s who of South African fashionati came out to play. Even more exciting was the fact that your very own Seth Rotherham walked away with the top honours! But that wasn’t the spiciest part of the evening..
Look, I can’t imagine anyone is upset about the decision to put Candice Boucher on the cover of the new Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine. I mean, having recently KILLED in the US edition of Playboy magazine, she IS one of our hottest exports! Check it out after the jump.
We interviewed Duran Duran’s Simon Le bon on Friday afternoon live on 2oceansvibe Radio. If you missed it then not to worry – we’ve got the podcast right here for you to download. Find out what’s in store for us when they come to Cape Town. Pleas enjoy Simon’s enthusiasm about the yacht we’ve got lined up for him. Listen after the jump.
You know that feeling when you get into the car after having a few too many? Don’t deny it, you know you have done it. You turn the corner and wham, there’s a road block! There is no adrenalin quite like that. So would it help if they did away with the drunk-driving laws?
You know when life just passes you by and then you finally have a moment to yourself to contemplate what has been going on, and you realise how crazy things have been? That happened to me last night when I was checking my iPhone after a long day. I took a screenshot of my inbox and thought you might enjoy..
An Indian businessman, the country’s richest, has moved in his humble new residence which sports panoramic views of the Mumbai slums, allowing him to literally look down on the poor. The property is valued at a cool six-point-eight-billion-rand, which, experts agree, is roughly one metric shit-ton of cash.
Let’s have a quick look at the highlights.
Ed Chamberlin is Sky Sports’ elite football presenter. That’s right, he’s a pretty big name on British telly. Funnily enough, we can’t shake the memory of him as the beloved stooge of Founders House, Bishops, in 1994. We chat to him about the Currie Cup, the Liverpool shenanigans, and the state of English rugby, live on 2oceansvibe Radio.
In a story with the headline I’ve waited my whole life to write, the future Mr Katy Perry has been referred to as “pointless” by one of Britain’s most celebrated talk show hosts and, perhaps most crushingly, had his talents compared to those of an acting dog.
