The SABC says its own internal investigation has found no evidence to substantiate a news article that claims the broadcaster paid Chief Mandla Mandela three million Rand for the rights to former president Mandela’s funeral.
Former NFL star Isaiah Mustafa, the character from the Old Spice adverts, has received some new competition from former romance novel cover-boy, Fabio. Old Spice did some rebranding last year and Mustafa’s campaign is regarded as one of the greatest viral campaigns ever conceived. One has to wonder what Wieden+Kennedy, Old Spice’s agency, is up to now.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said yesterday that workers in the coal sector would go on strike following failed wage negotiations. These are the people that have to make sure Eskom has enough coal to keep on providing electricity to the country. Their bosses offered a seven percent increase, while they thought 14% was fairer.

Nonhle Thema single-handedly put tweeting excessively in CAPS LOCK and ellipsis back on the map. She has also spent the last month telling her Twitter followers exactly how awesome and untouchable she is… BOOM! But it turns out there might be such a thing as bad publicity after all. You see, M-Net’s Vuzu and Nonhle have apparently “mutually decided to put their on-screen relationship on hold.”
Julius Malema has today denied that he is building a R16 million home in the upmarket Johannesburg suburb of Sandown. Rather, he chose to insist, “Instead of being rich, I remain poor but credit worthy.” He declined to give details of his financial interests, saying he was not a public figure, but this may yet backfire on him.

Rupert Murdoch, his son, James, and former News Of The World Editor, Rebekah Brooks, are set to face a grilling by the British Parliament’s Culture Committee this afternoon. And it would be advisable for you to tune in, because you might be a witness to the end of Rupert Murdoch, and his de facto control over the greater British Media – a position that he has held for the last 30 years.
Most pre-season preparation has begun for northern hemisphere football teams that will shortly start their new seasons. Coincidentally, Spanish soccer club Real Madrid are in Los Angeles to face LA Galaxy on Saturday. They decided to train on the UCLA campus in preparation for the match. And drive golf carts around, into someone, with perfect timing.
The pressure finally got to the fiery red-headed Rebekah Brooks. In the last few minutes news agency Reuters has officially announced that News International CEO Rebekah Brooks has resigned and will be replaced by Tom Mockridge. This comes after a scathing attack in an apparent four-page letter from Elisabeth, and the second biggest NI shareholder declaring “she has to go.”
When he’s not letting us know that he’ll be on holiday, President Jacob Zuma harnesses the power of the presidential twitter feed to promote the dramatic accomplishments of his progeny. Sweet, man. Check out the tweet after the jump.
There cannot possibly be a cooler animal than this: A mutant snake with two heads. And now, for your entertainment, you can see one. All you have to do is go to the Ukraine, famous for the beautiful nuclear-wasteland, Chernobyl.
Two months ago we covered CAR Magazine’s first foray into bridging the divide between digital and print publishing with an augmented reality. That was just the taster. This month, they’re just showing off, with a fully 360 digital projection of the above luxury German motor vehicle on the front cover. It’s pretty rad – check […]
A UK man was one of six drug smugglers caught yesterday at OR Tambo International. The creative fellow was wearing a handsome bra and panties stuffed full of cocaine.
Mail & Guardian editor, Nic Dawes, appeared via phone call on 2oceansVibe Radio‘s Morning Meeting to discuss the potential unraveling of international media tycoon, Rupert Murdoch, and his multi-billion dollar News Corp empire, amid reports of phone tapping conducted by The News Of The World, a British tabloid in the News Corp stable. The reports […]
A Dutch TV show looking for the “worst driver in the Netherlands” has found a clear winner. During filming of the last episode, this guy had to accelerate up to speed, apply the brake and swerve to miss a giant obstacle. Instead of breaking, he opted for accelerating – ploughing into the camera crew set up, hitting two people, including the host, and one parked car.
An inmate at a Michigan jail says he’s being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment because he has been banned from having porn.
In the same way you don’t want to hear about a traffic officer being arrested for drunk driving, it’s rather disconcerting to hear about US television’s watchdog for sexual predators being caught on camera cheating on his wife with a much younger woman. But that’s what happened to Chris Hansen, host of NBC’s ‘To Catch A Predator’.
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) is seriously considering expanding the taxi industry to cover further modes of transport, including buses, trains and aeroplanes. There is no word on what the airline, due to take to the skies in November, would be called, but there is the very obvious question of: “Where would the gatjie sit?”
We’re all mildly fanatical about the modern day motor vehicle over here at the 2oceansVibe compound. Some of us drive Mini Countrymans. Others are lucky enough to sport Fiat Unos. Actually, it’s convenient that I mentioned the Fiat Uno, because this next clip features a car that travels only slightly slower than your average City […]
Former Springbok captain and scrumhalf, Joost van der Westhuizen, has suffered a setback after the initial treatment prescribed by his doctor, to combat the debilitating nerve disease he was diagnosed with, failed to improve his condition.
South Africa’s first ever reality television porn show appears to have gone limp halfway through the auditions because broadcasters are reluctant to ‘excite’ the public. Although South Africans are generally fans of reality television, it’s hardly surprising that the conservative forces have decided to pass on a deal to air the show.
Anderson Cooper is your classic American television news presenter. He could’ve been an old guy with grey hair doing expensive wrist watch adverts, but he’s not. Instead, he’s one of CNN’s better journalists and his confidence grew exponentially after he went to report on the Egyptian revolution. His social commentary is also getting funnier too.
Regular readers will remember the flurry caused by Clifton Shores when production first got underway. Readers were mostly happy to have South Africa, and Cape Town, chosen as the venue for an international reality show, but many were not shy to voice their concerns over what the final product might look like. Click through for the first taste.
It is decided. When I grow up I want to be Ricky Gervais – that funny guy who hosted the Emmy’s. He was also the creator (and star) of The Office and Extras. Anyway, he has a new TV show – Life’s Too Short – about to air in the UK. The plot appears to involve a dwarf. Several, actually. No, seriously! See trailer inside.

M-Net announced yesterday that it has secured the broadcast rights to the most expensive TV series ever made: Steven Spielberg’s “Terra Nova”. And it looks like we won’t be too far behind the US in seeing it.
I have watched “The Naked News” but once and I really do not understand why people kicked up such a fuss. It’s simply a crappy magazine show, but with ugly naked chicks presenting it (except for the nerdy girl, she’s beautiful). Thankfully the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCCSA) has said that the show is not degrading to women.
