It’s very easy to run around saying that you have an audience of 40 000, including over 30 000 downloads of our mobile streaming app. But to get the constant stream of praise that comes our way, takes something a little more substantial. So a big thanks to the listeners out there who are enjoying […]
The other day I bought Icky Thump, almost begrudgingly. I didn’t think it would be that good. It didn’t get the commercial attention (by that I mean our radio stations only played the single Icky Thump off it) of albums like Elephant and Get Behind Me Satan, leading me to think that perhaps it was a bit of a dud. If you haven’t bought the last album – do. It really is that good.

This beaut of an ad hit TV screens across the country on Monday this week. We know how many of you are living your life in the future, with US iTunes accounts and Apple TVs and iPads etc. so you might have missed it. Check it out – classic Jack Daniel’s!
A massive thank you to all the support from the 2oceanvibers out there! We are pleased to announce that recent stats supplied by Google analytics have confirmed that we received 1,1 million visits in the last 6 months. With an average monthly readership of over 100 000 unique readers (some months topping 200 000 unique […]
The more aspirational of us often discuss the difference between what “your” R10 million or R20 million or R50 million buys on “either side of the mountain.” These chats usually take place around EuroMillions lottery draw time. More to the point, we compare the size of the property you can get in Clifton, with the options […]
South African cricketing legend, and ambassador for Buchulife, joined an elite club of test cricketers who have scored more than 12 000 runs. He takes his rightful place in a group of players that includes Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Rahul Dravid. In fact, Kallis is now the fourth highest scorer of runs in the […]
The line to enter the Johnny Walker stand literally went around the block. Well, I say block: it was a few square metres long. But still, it had the biggest waiting line by a quite a measure. There were dozens of stalls to choose from, and yet the upper crust of Johannesburg’s upwardly mobile chose to line up for shots of Johnny Walker Blue. Didn’t they miss the point?
He might’ve spent a few games on the bench at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, but popular Springbok flyhalf Butch James will be on THE BENCH come this Saturday, as he hits 2oceansVibe Radio HQ from 08h00 to 10h00 to talk about his newly-released book, Butch. The hard-hitting Bok number 10 is South Africa’s most-capped […]
I must say I did do a double-take when I drove into the city yesterday (in my awesome new MINI coupé) and saw a Mavericks billboard with a half naked Eastern European woman on it, tangled in sailing rope. The caption read something along the lines of “I was out sailing.” “Hmm, that’s a little […]
I saw this pic in yesterday’s issue of The Daily (on iPad 2) and had to show you. An atmospheric inversion lets the Hohenzollern Castle appear to rise out of the mist. Pretty cool, hey?
In case you were wondering why your friendly Vida baristas were looking especially fatigued on Monday, you should know that these men of coffee and skill threw themselves headlong into a battle of athleticism, wits and guile on Saturday at the Gianluca Vialli soccer nets in Sea Point, in the annual Vida Soccer Tournament. The […]
I think we pay too little for our wine. These thoughts have clouded my brain like a Joburg smog – discussions about money always leave a dirty taste – since I heard a few different pronouncements about wine and money. The first was at the Swartland Revolution – the constitutionally testing wine event I attended this weekend, whose schedule ran daily from august conversations about fine wine to hangovers that would bring a tear to your eye and a lump to your throat.
I got the latest V Magazine on my iPad 2 (I have a US iTunes account – which you can get here) and I was pleasantly surprised when I turned the page and found a stunning little shoot of the world’s #1 supermodel, our very own Candice Swanepoel. It would be rude not to show […]
The Blue Route is just that, blue, and depressing. You probably think you’ve got the better of it by taking Rhodes Drive. The only problem is that you have to deal with that queue that’s longer than the line at Home Affairs. Seth shows you where to bang a right, to avoid the fifteen minute […]
From security guard, to dodgy taxi boss, to even dodgier mine boss – Khulubuse Zuma’s weight has exploded upwards recently. Nouveau riche, and all that. The connection isn’t very subtle – in large parts of South Africa, the way we choose to display wealth is by being overweight. Body fat is our bling.
You’ve got a passion for photography. Look, who doesn’t. But you’re afraid to commit. You’re afraid to take the plunge. You’re even afraid to mention the very fact that you have a strong interest in photography, lest some douchebag photojournalist-cum-free-to-have-music-magazine editor corners you into a conversation about shutter speed and aperture. What you need is […]
I remember growing up with this notion that things were always better “over the seas”. Finding myself amongst winos later in life, there is still a remnant of that idea. There’s almost a measure of disbelief when a South African wine is preferred to a French wine of similar style. It feels as though there is a lack of confidence in our own wines, one that’s only bolstered briefly when a foreign critic gives us a high score. The point – which is quickly becoming a bush around which I am beating – is that South African Sauvignon Blanc is world class.
Information wants to be free, man! So says Julian Assange and his WikiLeaks geeks. Info wants to be free! The internet is free! Don’t police it! It’s a nice idea, isn’t it? The internet being the last place on earth that is unpoliced. Well, that may be about to go away.
I love tawny port. The flavours of sweet raisin, black tea and earth make we want to shout and dance around singing, “I’m Tawny, Tawny Tawny Tawny tonight.” I finished half a bottle last night in preparation for this column. It made me happy. But not as happy as I was the last time I drank it – and that’s the rub.
Seth dodges highly botoxed women in Jaguars, and shows you a short cut from Benmore to Hyde Park, without using Grayston Drive and Sandton Drive. Top secret information is leaked, where he shows you a zone that skips the infamous traffic lights onto William Nicol Drive.
You might have caught the article in yesterday Sunday Times newspaper about Jacob Zuma getting a new jet. In fact he and the deputy president are getting TWO new jets, which come to a total of R1,6 Billion. That’s R800 million per jet! We did some snooping around and managed to get some photographs (and […]
Jordy Smith (who recently signed with Buchulife) and Dusty Payne in Round 1 of the Rip Curl Pro Search in San Francisco get scared out of the water by a big shark. I think his name was Bruce. Follow the link to check it out. Video contains bonus footage of Jordy dancing and singing “Staying […]
This is the second time that DigiCape’s Roeland Street Branch has been hit by this burglary syndicate. The shop was broken into at 02h15 this morning, and the group made off with over R250 000 worth of new and demo stock. DigiCape are offering a R25 000 reward for any information leading to arrests. Click through for the surveillance videos.
I said goodbye to my buddy, the new 4X4 MINI Countryman, after six months of joyous adventure in and around Cape Town. From mounting pavements in Green Point, to dirt roads and the dunes of Arniston, it was nothing short of pure adventure. I also managed to squeeze in an online TV series, showing you, […]
I’m not sure if you know this, but “Whiskey” is one part of the official aviation radio alphabet. Ja, you best believe it. Which is why on 7 October last month we treated our Friday Done Jack’s Way winner, Mark, and four of his friends to a helicopter flight from the V&A Waterfront to Constantia […]
The US Powerball lottery, which is played by people all over the world, had a jackpot this last weekend of $200 million (R1,5 billion). Whilst there were many smaller winners, no one had the right numbers to win the big jackpot prize. That means that the jackpot rolls over and gets bigger. This Wednesday’s US […]
A man’s home is his castle. A women’s home is also her castle, but with more comfort and logic. And your castle ought to be everything you hoped and prayed for. When was the last time you walked into a place and thought, “Man, if I had built this house, I would have definitely perched […]
L’Heure bleue – the hour of blue. That’s the french description of the period when the sun has set, so named for the wonderful quality of the light. Now imagine celebrating this special time of day on a Friday evening between 17h00 and 20h00 at De Grendel estate, as the sun sets over the Atlantic […]
As the temperature warms, the days grow longer, the skirts get shorter, skinny jeans are replaced with skinny denim shorts, and all and sundry converge on Camps Bay, Llandudno and the Cliftons after work to tan, swim, and pat themselves on the back for living in such an awesome city. We know summer is here.
