Volleyball just doesn’t get the same kind of press that other ball sports do. Well, maybe (women’s) beach volleyball does – but certainly not indoor volleyball. We’d like to change that, if only for a minute.
The selfie. Has it become an accepted means of self-expression – have we all decided it’s okay? Is it an art form? No one can really say, but it certainly seems that the initial disgust with the self-indulgent practice has been subtly swept under the carpet. Everybody’s doing it.
Leonardo turned 39 on Monday, and what better way to celebrate than with Kanye West and 2 Chainz? Right? The two mega-rappers performed in an impromptu gig for DiCaprio at swanky New York Nightclub, ‘Tao’. We have for you some Instagram videos from the night – please enjoy.
Kimberley Rose had always dreamed of being a superstar on the world stage, but she was diagnosed with cancer before she could make her dream a reality. This prompted local band, The Plastics to step in and help make her dream come true.
Yves Rossy and his jet-pack are by no means a new story. But flight after flight, he continues to capture the world’s imagination with his ability to fly at over 300km/h with apparatus that is controlled in the palm of his hand.
This kid has clearly not seen a day without playing football. How else could he be this good at such a young age? We’ve seen all the pros do some fancy flicks on the sidelines, like Mesut Ozil’s chewing gum trick, but we’ve never been given a performance quite like this one.
Humour is one of the best ways of dealing with kak news. The proposed Secrecy Bill is kak news. So, Right2Know is hosting a night of comedy and biting satire along with some of South Africa’s best comedians.
Okay fine, so it’s not National Geographic, but any international recognition is good recognition, right? In a post that lists some of the world’s most colourful and attractive nieghbourhoods, its good to see some local South African flavour chucked in to the mix.
Jaimie Alexander – heard the name? If not, don’t be too concerned. Apart from appearing in a few low-budget horror flicks, she hasn’t made much of an impression on Hollywood. That is, until she decided to step out onto the red carpet without any underwear.
If you’ve been struggling to find the right movies to watch this year, there’s no one better to take advice from than Barry Ronge. Wait, no, not Barry Ronge – Quentin Tarantino.
Whether we believe in the magic of David Blaine or not – we can’t help but enjoy his big stunts for their sheer spectacle. Especially if that spectacle involves doing a ‘magic trick’ on Kanye West and making him look silly.
It’s every gamer’s conundrum – the Playstation or the Xbox? Of course, those loyal to desktop PC’s will dismiss both options, but those gamers who need more than a keyboard and mouse will be looking to invest in one of these new devices – but which one?
If you think this is a story about a talking dog, you’re wrong. This is a groundbreaking story about what researchers at Duke University are calling “the most scientifically important dog in over a century.”
When it comes to comic books, they tend to diversify their characters by adding different powers, different colours or different capes. Very rarely, they’ll chuck in the odd female superhero. But never have they really ventured very far into racial or ethnic minorities when it comes to creating new characters. That’s all about to change, with the creation of a new superheroine. A teenage Muslim girl from Jersey, Kamala Khan.
Right. When you’re expecting a child, you’re also expected to make some sort of announcement, have a baby shower, or some sort of event that pre-empts the possibility of one of your friends complaining that ‘you didn’t tell them’. Most people tend to do it the old fashioned way, and some don’t even bother. But one couple from North Salt Lake City decided to do something a little different.
The [insert country]’s Got Talent franchise just keeps on cropping up with so many gems. If it’s not an ugly woman who can melt your face with her singing, it’s a ridiculously precocious little kid who can play the piano like Beethoven. There just no end to the amount of people who have talent – despite their limitations.
There’s been plenty of talk about how awesome Elon Musk is. The guy has become something of an enigma, what with him being the CEO & CTO of SpaceX and CEO & Chief Product Architect of Tesla Motors. He’s also in the news for his ideas to turn James Bonds Lotus Esprit submarine-car into a real submarine – and for his grand ideas for the construction of the hyperloop.
South African-based ad agency, Joe Public, created this masterful campaign for a school in Johannesburg that teaches in both English and Afrikaans. The campaign features a series of posters with poetry on them – that’s not the clever part though. The clever part is that each of the poems can be read word-for-word in both English and Afrikaans, with only slight changes in meaning.
For those of you who missed this little newspaper snippet, which has been doing the rounds on email, here it is. It simply simplifies all of Zuma’s antics into an itemised list of incredible facts.
Ridiculous, in a good way. Here’s a little something to get you onto the workday hom stretch. What we have here is a short insert from the full length ski doccie, ‘Valhalla’. There doesn’t seem to be any rationale behind this, other than an expression of the joy of skiing. And being naked. And being naked and skiing.
Yep, it’s that time of the week when a study says that one gender is better than the other gender at something, and we all get outraged and/or jokey. Despite your general jadedness when it comes to questions of this nature, the results of the study have potentially massive implications for modern work life.
This just in. Rumours are abound that YouTube is planning on starting an on-demand music service that works kinda like Spotify – but with music videos. In a bid to keep up with the times, they’re pitching the new service to mobile users specifically. What’s more, they’re going to offer the service in two forms – a free service, and a premium one.
We cannot actually believe this – it’s almost too good. The creator of Baywatch is making a rescue-style show in Cape Town, except this time, instead of the Hoff in trunks, we have the Dolph in a FIREMAN’S COSTUME. It’s. Too. Great.
Yeezus! Has Kanye finally overstepped the line, pushed the boundaries a little too far? Mr West kicked off his highly anticipated Yeezus tour in Seattle last week, and did so in typically controversial style, when he invited 12 dancing disciples, a red-eyed demon, and Jesus on stage with him.
Joburg has already had their taste of Rihanna, and now it’s Cape Town’s turn. And if you’ve been in Cape Town long enough, you’ll realise just how much impact a huge gig such as this will have on the roads around the stadium. With that in mind, here’s a few tips on how to get in and get out as smoothly as possible.
Napoleon’s brother Kip, played by Aaron Ruell, is now as good looking as a secret ginger can be. Which, you know, is moderately good-looking. Ruell, 37, who played the online chatting, babe chasing, cage fight training character in the 2004 flick, was photographed at a California panel in January 2012. And for old time’s sake: […]
Look at Marilyn Monroe’s natural beauty. Now stop, because it’s all a lie. Medical files have been discovered that prove that the 1950s sex-symbol went under the knife to achieve that “natural beauty” we all know and love.
Well, this is probably the most depressing thing you’ll read today. The social chair of Phi Kappa Tau at Georgia Tech sent an email to his chapter, with the subject line “Luring your Rapebait”. The email is a how-to for coercing sex out of women at frat parties, and includes the stern command, “NO RAPING”. Why are we not surprised that these guys need this instruction? Here’s the email
Alfonso Cuarón’s highly anticipated film, ‘Gravity’ will made landfall in the US last week, and it looks fairly stunning. The movie follows the events of a simple routine mission on the International Space Station (ISS) gone wrong. Inspired by The Kessler Syndrome, a theory that predicts a giant domino effect could occur if space debris in low orbit started colliding, we follow Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) as they battle to get back home to Earth.
Miley Cyrus pulled off a memorable hosting of Saturday Night Live this last weekend, which included multiple self-depricating one-liners, and a brilliant parody of her track ‘We Won’t Stop’, reshot and retitled to mock the US government shutdown. Check out ‘We Did Stop’. Here’s Miley performing live after her skits: And here’s the American media talking about being […]
