This coming Thursday, the V&A Waterfront will be playing host to the inaugural Cape Town Society Charity Dinner. The proceeds of the ticket sales and the auction will be passed to a number of worthy charities. One of the beneficiaries of the auction proceeds is the Bobs For Good Foundation, which is a fantastic initiative […]
WHAT a novel idea! You will recall an article we posted in early March about little Natalie – a little girl close to our heart, who has a rare form of bone cancer. The family and friends supporting Natalie are a terribly creative bunch, as you would have seen by the brilliant website they setup […]
The nice thing about Pixar is that all of its movies make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Charity helps people AND makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. With this in mind, Lee Unkrich, Pixar director, is letting you enjoy the indulgence of both, by auctioning off Pixar stuff for Japan aid.
The date has finally been announced and it’s more imminent that you might think. May 1st will be the day Richard Branson will honour the bet made back at the beginning of the 2010 Formula One season. Branson and Tony Fernandes, of Team Lotus, had wagered over whose Formula One team would place higher at the Bahrain Formula One race.
Oh boy. The Nelson Mandela Foundation, which is apparently under some financial stress, is launching a Mandela-themed designer line, dubbed the 46664 Apparel line. Shwe-shwe material and brightly-coloured golf shirts feature prominently, because that’s what Mandela’s about.
If you’ve ever been keen to do the world famous Gumball Rally, or perhaps, like me, you have discussed the need for something similar to be hosted here at home – but with a more African vibe to it – look no further, my boet! The Put Foot Rally 2011 is here and registration is […]
2oceansvibe has always made it very clear that, as much as we would like to, we simply cannot help everyone and so we share our charitable efforts between the BobsForGood & MyLife causes. There are however some cases that occur so close to home that it would be unnatural not to make the most of this platform […]
British actor Daniel Craig has appeared in drag for a video ad to mark International Women’s Day, which is celebrated today, 8 March. During the video Craig, renowned for his role as womanising spy James Bond, is educated on the state of women’s rights around the world by none other than Dame Judi Dench.
Ha. Last night, someone in control of the Red Cross Twitter feed accidentally posted “Ryan found two more 4 bottle packs of Dogfish Head’s Midas Touch beer…when we drink we do it right #gettngslizzerd. ” Then the internet found out & made a meme of it, resulting in a flood of Red Cross blood donations.
If you haven’t heard of the Good Work Gig then you’re in for a treat. The GWG will be hosted by the Grand Cafe on Camps Bay beach, and is in aid of The Good Work Foundation. Keeping in spirit with its name, the Good Work Foundation is a charity dedicated to helping the young […]
Well, well, well. Do we have a little surprise to make your lives better, my friends. I’m sure you’ll be aware that the Imogen Heap Gigs at the Paul Cluver Forest Amphitheatre, in association with 2oceansvibe Radio (because we love you) sold out long ago. Sad news for those of you who weren’t able to snap […]
When deceased property developer and sky-diving enthusiast, Rob Taylor generously donated his Audi R8 to two car guards at the foot of table mountain in January 2010, he probably didn’t bet on those same car guards would have fraud charges brought against them by Taylor’s business partner, and de facto owner of the car.
The folks at the Super Top Secret advertising firm are taking any Ed Hardy or Affliction t-shirt you send them and donating the clothing to the homeless. We like to keep our bird/stone ratio pretty solid here at 2ov, so the possibility of lowering the global douchebag quotient and helping out the lower-income brackets appeals.
At 12:00PM on Saturday, the 8th of January 2011, three monstrously tough unicyclists and their support car will arrive in at Mouille Point lighthouse after completing a 44-day off-road tour, from Durban to Cape Town, on UNICYCLES.
Unicycling has arguably been around since there have been wheels and chairs. That’s just science. Charity has been around for a pretty long time too. So it’s fitting that these two ancient disciplines would come together in the Counter Balance ‘Freedom Revolution Tour,’ which is raising funds to provide disadvantaged school kids with shoes.
Drop what you’re doing, get on your feet and put your hands together: Mark Zuckerberg joined the Giving Pledge movement and is donating most of his wealth to charity. Bravo. He joins Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Michael Bloomberg and Ted Turner – truly selfless individuals with some of the biggest hearts in the world.
The Italian Football side did it for D&G. Helen Mirren et al did it for a local hospital in the movie Calendar Girls. Now, UCT’s MC Marais XV have stripped off for charity and an annual tour. Ladies and Gentlemen (although this one is definitely more for the laydeez), I present the 2011 MC Marais Naked Calendar:
Kim Kardashian is dead. Not really. I know, I also got excited but the fact is she’s just pretending to be dead to raise money for people affected by Aids in Africa and India, specifically. Today is World AIDS Day. Make a note of that.

Steve Carell and Chris Rock's Special Auction Items Pt. 2 | ||||
|
What could be better than having Chris Rock verbally abuse your ex for breaking up with you? Nothing! Especially when he begins with, “You dirty motherf_ _ _er…”
It’s that time of year again – one of the greatest legal ways to piss-off your partner is upon us. Growing one’s moustache in support of testicular cancer is pretty much your duty as a man, and why would she understand, anyway? Does she have balls? Negative. And without your support, neither will a large number of men around the world. Follow the link and prepare for Movember!
Cape locals Glenn Ward and Dries Millard are about to embark on a road trip of epic proportions – they’ll be undertaking a marathon trek from Saldanha to Cape Town. That’s a distance of 142km. Now I don’t know about you, but the daily trip to the water cooler is a significant achievement for me. Oh yeah, small detail. They’ll be doing it in wheel chairs.
One of the highlights of the Bobs For Good Spring Ball was the video of Dave Levinsohn breaking in to Bob Skinstad’s house and stealing his shoes. The organisers finally put the video up on the web so that you can see it too! Absolute hilarity – check it out! Those same shoes appeared on […]
Remember that story we ran yesterday about Bob Skinstad’s foundation ‘Bobs For Good’ following through on Julius Malema’s broken promise? You’ll recall we included an old newspaper article about Malema’s 19-month old promise to the kids and mentioned the fact that the Bobs For Good Foundation had unwittingly made good his lies. We even called […]
When the news came through that the Bobs for Good Foundation had delivered 282 pairs of shoes to Makanyu Primary school in the rural village of Hampego in Limpopo, I was sure that the school’s name had come up in the press before. So I did a little research and, sure enough, the school HAD […]
My buddy David Grier is in the mix again – and this time is slightly different to his earlier vibes, when he completed the first ever joint continuous run of the Great Wall of China, some 4000km in 98 days. Ja, I thought that might refresh your memory! So check this out – he’s taking […]
I certainly won’t be missing an opportunity to meet the great man and hopefully raise our concerns and get his views on various cycling topics often raised here on 2oceansvibe. You know, from cycling through red traffic lights, to balls exposed in front of children and the wearing of cycling helmets whilst dinging. But, you […]
For those of you who haven’t been tracking the progress, I strongly suggest to get tuned in, because it’s all about to come to a head. No, not that kind of head. Seriously, after two months and nearly 2,000km, Geoff Brink will unicycle into Cape Town later this week to complete The Heart and Sole […]
We had an absolute blast yesterday at the Waterfront as the likes of District 9’s Vanessa Haywood, Just Jinjer’s Ard Matthews and scores of fans surrounded Bob’s wooden cage, as Ard serenaded him with their latest single, Milk & Honies. The performance was broadcast live streaming on 2oceansvibe and a big thanks goes out to […]
