On 9 December 2011, British Prime Minister, David Cameron emerged from 10 hours of negotiations with European Union leaders, announcing his decision to reject new European Rules on behalf of Britain. It is a move that has set Britain up for a season of icy relations with its continental cousins that may last much longer than this year’s winter.
What’s the deal with South African Chenin? It has been a variety that I have espoused with vim and vigour since I became a wine consumer of serious proportions. I thought it offered excellent value for money, and offered a range of styles – “I’ll find one for you” I have cried to unbelievers. But had I been fooled by overt sweetness? Was my praise of this variety ill-founded? Had I been hood-winked by easy drinking cheap wines? Did my wallet guide my palate?
Last week, Justin Bieber almost ruined the collective festive cheer of the entire world by announcing he was working on a dubstep album, but thankfully it’s still the season for giving, and a handful of awesome classic rock outfits have announced their plans to tour SA in 2012, effectively cancelling out the horror aftershocks of the Lesbieber’s awful, awful news.
So we’ve now had Jersey Shore, Geordie Shore, and even Clifton Shores. It seems Ireland is feeling a little left out. With a trashier cast and a fraction of the budget, I present to you: Tallafornia.

Last night Chelsea Clinton, daughter of Bill Clinton and Hilary Clinton, made her debut as a reporter on NBC. Yes, I know it’s weird to think that Bill and Hilary actually have a child, but she’s pretty good.

They’ve also set up a ‘Build the Memory’ website which compares before-and-after shots of the affected towns.

Australia’s military is becoming notorious for its culture of drinking and sexism. Which is probably not much fun if you’re a woman. A senior naval officer has just been convicted of no fewer than seven counts of indecency without consent. He’d been engaging in some pretty questionable behaviour in the workplace, including spanking a female sailor’s bare buttocks to “test her discipline and compliance”.

Meet the Freebord, a cool skateboard that completely changes the way you ride. It’s a little bit longboard, a little bit snowboard, and a whole lot of awesome. Check out a video after the jump.
Santacon is a thing that happens in San Francisco every year; people dress up as Santa Claus and get very drunk. Public nudity is also legal in SF. So it makes sense for this year’s Santacon to have been an attempt at setting a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of naked Santas ever.
Two male African penguins recently made worldwide headlines after it appeared the two might be gay. As it turns out, Toronto Zoo’s gay penguins were not really gay after all. A female has come between them, and they have officially been split up.
This clip, taken last year, is believed to have been filmed at the Olympic Game Farm in Washington. It features a huge Kodiak bear waving back at sightseers and has quickly become a hit on the internet. Viewers are particularly delighted by his cheery demeanour. I love how he gives that, “OH IT’S YOU!” look before waving back.
That’s according to Karlien Breytenbach (pictured), who went to school with the Oscar winner. She says that Charlize Theron is a liar and her recent statements about being bullied at school are false. On the contrary, apparently, “She was never bullied. She’s the one who bullied the other children.” Follow the link for more insight […]

No matter how passive and opposed to violence you might be, there are times when you just want to hit something (or someone) to relieve some stress. Sadly this is not always appropriate behaviour in civilised society. Thankfully Old Spice has provided the perfect digital alternative.
Police in Britain will soon be testing a shoulder-mounted laser that is capable of emitting a blinding wall of light from up to 500 metres away. Bosses can be real dicks sometimes, refusing to give you the time off you need to attend your kid’s prize-giving at school, or when you just need some “personal time” to recover from that mid-week hangover. A man from the US has just hatched a great plan – by sending his local newspaper an obituary of his still-living in mother, you know, to prove to work that he was entitled to the time off.
