It has been more than a century since someone last attempted to cross the Niagara Falls on a tightrope and it was only after a renegotiation and reversed decision that permission was again granted. However, later this year we’ll finally see a man attempt the awe-inspiring stunt.
Just in time to co-incide with the 500th episode of “The Simpsons,” Matt Groening, the show’s creator, has been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Simpsons aired its first episode on 19 December, 1989, so I’d say it was a long enough wait. There was also doughnuts.
65-year-old Allan Lorton, of Knight Road, Sherwood in Durban, died of his wounds on Tuesday after being viciously mauled in an attack by his neighbours’ pit bull. Neighbours and bystanders could only watch in horror as the pensioner bled profusely during the attack.

Chris Brown’s success at the Grammys – he won an award for the Best R&B album, and performed to a standing ovation – has been mildly overshadowed by people getting upset over his beating up Rihanna. So, like all mature and repentant individuals, he turned to his Twitter account to set things right.
Well, would you just look at that. The Hosh Tokoloshe, and his lovely stekkie, Jenna Pietersen, immortalised in black and white, kaalgat. Look at his face. Look at his moustache. So serene. So beautiful. How’s the serenity? You might remember that a large proportion of the 2oceansvibe staffers got their kit off for last year’s […]
Nobody has any idea where they’re planning on getting funding from – but like a kid with an extended birthday wish list, NASA has unveiled some amazing concepts of future, eco-friendly aircraft, which they’re calling “greener flying machines for the year 2025.” Assuming they’re still here then.
Irish low-cost airline, Ryanair knows that sex sells. That’s why they ran an ad campaign last year which showed scantily-clad models in lingerie with the strap line “Red Hot Fares & Crew.” But the advert has been banned by the ASA, after staff members from Ryanair complained. They say it portrays cabin crew as glamour models and that they subsequently feel objectified.
Did you know Steve Jobs got a Grammy last Sunday, and Betty White? Here are some of our favourite Grammy winners from last Sunday’s Adele-fest that inexplicably didn’t make the headlines.
It’s a long standing rumour in varsities around the world. The girl who’s marks aren’t quite up to scratch, so she goes to speak to her professor in his office. Some flirting happens, a cute smile, who knows – but all of a sudden she’s got straight A’s. This doesn’t quite work when you do the same in an assignment, and especially not when you’re a 56 year-old male.
Jealousy can make you crazy. And ex-es can be infuriating. The man who was killed yesterday afternoon outside St George’s Grammar in Mowbray was shot by the ex-husband of the woman he was engaged to. While there’s still uncertainty around why he resorted to pulling out a gun, it’s not hard to surmise there was no love lost between the fiance and the former husband.
South African Airways has asked the government, sorry, the taxpayer that doesn’t get a say, for a recapitalisation of about R6 billion to fund operational costs, growth strategy and a fleet renewal for the coming future. Why? Because it would post a loss this financial year if this doesn’t happen, and growth is important.
Yesterday Julius Malema’s struggle with the South Africa’s judicial system surfaced in the media. See the video of him discussing his love-hate relationship with his white lawyers inside, but also keep an eye on our boy’s outfit. Once again he reminds us that just because you are a beret-wearing revolutionary, there is no excuse for not popping at least two collars in the process.
Hoo-ha. That teaser trailer for the new Die Antwoord album, Ten$ion, got pulled from the internet (which means they’ve officially taken it down – obviously it’s still around) because artist Jane Alexander, whose anti-apartheid sculpture the trailer strongly references, told them to. They’re in legal discussions presently.

Yesterday PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) launched their new viral campaign to encourage people to “go vegan”. Unfortunately for them, what they apparently intended as a tongue-in-cheek ad has sparked outrage and concern by painting a sad picture of domestic abuse and violence.
How’s this? I was late to school every now and then, but I was never met with police. This seems a little hardcore: 27 pupils who arrived late for school were greeted by a group of police officers waiting for them. This comes after 700 students and some teachers arrived late to the same school on Monday.
The Colombian pop singer and woman with the hips that don’t lie, Shakira, appears to have narrowly escaped the menacing attack of a Cape Fur Seal on the weekend. She’s been in Cape Town on holiday, and escaped with some minor cuts and bruises while attempting to take photographs of seals.
Julius Malema is going to be climbing an uphill battle in his latest legal wrangle because of the white minority controlling South Africa’s judicial system. At least, that’s the point he seemed to be making during footage released today of the ANC Youth League lekgotla held last week.
Last week 2oceansVibe correctly doubted the authenticity of footage that claimed a woolly mammoth had been spotted by a government-employed engineer in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Siberia. Have you ever thought about how small we actually are in the greater scheme of the universe? Or how large we are compared to some of the things around us. Two Asian twins thought the same, and have created an amazing interactive map to show you exactly how big you are.
Well hey there, internet – look what you brought in. “Money and Da Power,” a track that Die Antwoord has performed a couple of times on live tour but didn’t include on TEN$ION has been leaked onto Soundcloud by some or other file-sharing hippie.
