Well, it opened and got some international attention since we introduced you to Rivonia’s finest new establishment. Step inside boet, but remember, what happens at Avastar stays at Avastar.

‘Robot and Frank’ stars Frank Langella as an old man forging an unlikely bond with his Peter Sarsgaard-voiced robot butler, which starts off as an odd-couple comedy and then turns into a heist film, because Langella used to be a jewel thief. It looks pretty great, and they loved it at Sundance. Take a look.
I don’t really care how fast it is, I just want to own something that uses an infinite-capacity wireless vortex beam. Though it sounds like a death-ray, it describes what American and Israeli researchers have used to create the fastest ever wireless network: twisted beams of light that transfer data at 2,56 terabits per second.
2oceansViber, Fred, got in contact with us recently about his stolen MacBook Pro, which was grabbed by a thief as Fred confronted him in his bedroom. The thief and the MacBook got away, but Dropbox remained installed. Imagine the surprise when pictures from his stolen Mac started appearing in his DropBox. They tell quite a story. Full (hilarious) gallery inside.
On Sunday night, England dropped out of Euro 2012 in a quarterfinal against Italy. After 120 minutes of play, without any score, the teams went into a penalty shootout which saw Ashley Cole and Ashley Young both miss their attempts. The two players, who are both black, drew heavy racist abuse on Twitter which is now being investigated by British police.
It has just been announced that South Africa is set to be the host of this year’s Champions League T20 in October. Cape Town, Johannesburg, Centurion, and Durban, are the chosen venues for the most lucrative club-cricket tournament in the world, now into its fourth year.
Check out Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, recording a rap tune in a bid to curb drug and alcohol abuse. Non-kids (especially those in advertising and politics) trying to be as cool a real kids normally just looks awkward. So does De Lille manage to not look like a fool doing this? Check it out and decide for yourself – after the jump!
The internet is obsessed with cats. Completely and utterly obsessed. In Google’s secretive X labratory, scientists have developed one of the largest neural networks for machine learning by connecting 16,000 computer processors. What did it do? Watched Youtube, and worked out what a cat is.
These photographs of famous landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and Blackpool Tower could have been lost forever, were it not for a major conservation project which has made them freely available on the internet for the first time.

It’s been about a month and a half since the Eihatsu Maru ran aground in Clifton. Amongst all the questions and mysteries surrounding the entire incident, one of the most prominent was: “Who’s going to be paying for all this?” The unexpected answer is that the ship’s owner has actually made an offer to the salvagers – who would have thought it?
The issue of the construction of a luxury hotel development in the Kruger National Park was discussed at length on 2oceansVibe last year when the weighty issue of hotel development in the Kruger National Park became public knowledge. The first of these developments, to be built near the Malelane Gate, the most convenient entrance from Johannesburg and the airport in nearby Nelspruit, is finally about to get underway.
DStv has recently graciously lifted its self-imposed suspension of Nando’s “Diversity” anti-xenophobia ad. But it seems this incredibly generous move by DStv has gone unappreciated by Nando’s. The restaurant-chain says it won’t be spending any money to have that advert flighted on DStv.
A tour operator in Nepal calling itself ‘ZipFlyer’ claims to run the world’s fastest zip-line, a 1.8km line that drops 600m, attaining speeds of 160 kmph. Honestly I’m not sure what kind of speeds zip-lines are supposed to be clocking so those numbers don’t mean much, but the helmetcamera bits in the video look insane. Have a look.
Yesterday Lonesome George, the last of the Pinta Island subspecies of the giant tortoise, died, marking the total extinction of his subspecies. It’s a sad day, as Lonesome George became a symbol of other species on the brink of extinction, and an ambassador for Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands.

After Nando’s brought to everyone’s attention that the Khoisan are the only true inhabitants of South Africa, this seems appropriate. The suggestion of a new name for Cape Town comes after the memorial service of Khoisan traditional leader, Dawid Kruiper, who passed away earlier this month.
More than a year after 2oceasnVibe first covered the story about South Africa’s only ski resort going under the hammer, the resort will finally be sold in a “no reserve” auction on July 12 this year. Now you can really own it. Auction Alliance didn’t crack the nod for this one, so expect everything to be above board.

The European Commission is drawing pretty widespread condemnation for releasing a video — ostensibly aimed at getting girls into science — which pretty much depicts female scientists as sexy models in short skirts who hang around bunsen burners, giggling. Take a look at what lady scientists apparently look like in Europe after the jump.
It’s been more than a decade since the last Jurassic Park sequel, and Spielberg’s royalty checks are starting to run a little dry, so writers have been hired to develop the script for Jurassic Park 4, taking it in a ‘completely different direction.’ So long as that direction still involves cloned dinosaurs and lots of money.

Earlier this week footage surfaced of Guns & Roses singer, Axl Rose, face planting hard on stage. The only thing better than seeing that would be seeing that PLUS an incident where Justin Bieber collapses and falls down some stairs, right? Friends, mark today’s date in your calendar, because you are about to see both.
You know that thing where you post a comment on Facebook and immediately regret your decision? Well, Facebook sure does. Which is why they’re rolling out a comment-editing functionality over the next few days. Rest easy, people whose grammar falls apart whenever they get excited.
In terms of advertising, I would rather watch a race car driver catching little balls in a car going 180 miles an hour, than a dog talking from a bakkie. It’s a little silly, but definitely worth a watch, even if it is just to hear how genuinely excited Coulthard gets when he catches the ball.
Here’s a Friday-feel-good story for you all, executive chairman and CEO of Richemont, Johann Rupert, took home €3.6 million for the year and instead of buying a new yacht or diamond-infused body lotion he promptly donated it to charity.
