This video is going to be better than you expect – trust me. It’s the masterpiece of one Matthijs Vlot, who is basically a video remix genius. He spends hours cutting and chopping video, and piecing it back together to create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. Literally.
Yesterday was a very special day. For one thing, it was my birthday (thanks). For another thing, it was the beginning of the 2013 #Run2Stop Challenge. race was full of surprises as the nerves of uncertainty kicked in! The day started with lots of cameras and interviews at the beautiful grounds of Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe […]
Everybody knows the the people at News Of The World are a bunch of lying, hacking, no-good, low-lifes – but it needs to be proven in court before any punitive action can be taken. And now, former News International (NOTW’s parent company) chief executive, Rebekah Brooks, stands accused by the prosecution of orchestrating a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by using News International employees and resources to hide or destroy notebooks, computers and emails that would prove that NOTW had repeatedly broken the law.
It’s everyone’s dream job to work at Google, isn’t it? It’s one of the most forward-thinking corporations on earth – the pay is great, the benefits are out of this world, and the working environment is unparalleled anywhere else. Take the Swiss office, for example, where employees spend their days working inside old ski-lifts, and can take a breather in an aquarium equipped with reclining seats. So what’s the downside?
This is a bit of a weird one. You would expect the star of movies like ‘True Grit’ and ‘No Country For Old Men’ to put up a decent bar fight, but this is just embarrassing. The 45 year-old seemed to be trying to take down a bouncer at O’Brien’s Irish Pub in Santa Monica. He was outraged because the bouncer had told him that the pub was closing for the night – and he was prepared to fight to keep it open.
You would expect Bill Gates to be at the at the front of the march when it comes to campaigning for the whole world to be online. In response to Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to bring the whole world online, however, Gates insisted that internet accessibility shouldn’t be our number one priority. Despite the fact that Gates is still Microsoft’s chairman, he spends most of his time focusing on philanthropy through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
“Lets go do a show in Brazil,” Bieber’s manager said. “It will be so relaxing,” he said. Well, after what has been a very hectic week in Brazil, it doesn’t look like JB will be going back any time soon. First, he attempts to leave a brothel under a bed sheet, but gets caught anyway. And now this. It feels as if, by some divine mercy, some sort of deity has heard the worlds’ anti-Bieber sentiments, and has answered them oh so swiftly.
We get sent links to cool stuff all the time. Sometimes the cool stuff is genuinely cool, sometimes it just isn’t. But every once in a blue moon we get an absolute gem sent to us – something from the deep web that mainstream media hasn’t been able to pick up quite yet. This time it’s a music video from somewhere in South Africa.
Meet Jean-Philip Grobler, aka St. Lucia. Originally from Johannesberg, St. Lucia grew up performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School in KwaZulu-Natal. Nowadays he lives in Brooklyn, and is blowing up on the New York music scene. On October 31 he posted the following announcement to the band’s Facebook page:
The [insert country]’s Got Talent franchise just keeps on cropping up with so many gems. If it’s not an ugly woman who can melt your face with her singing, it’s a ridiculously precocious little kid who can play the piano like Beethoven. There just no end to the amount of people who have talent – despite their limitations.
Our collective fascination with the extra-terrestrial is never-ending. We always seem to be able to come up with new ways of tricking ourselves into believing that there are indeed aliens floating around earth. Whether it’s crop-circles, weird lights in the sky or strange things in the water – we are constantly reminded that more often than not, we’re just spooking ourselves. This time, it’s the American drones that are to blame.
Look, it couldn’t have been helped. You’ve had a busy few weeks at work, and you let the Rob Ford drug scandal pass you by. Understandable. But now that it has blown up, your knowledge-gap is becoming a liability in social situations. Get up to speed, fast.
We tend to assume that high-flying celebrities all drink. What else would you do with all that cash and all that free time? Well, it turns out that there’s a fair few who simply choose not to drink, despite the fact that they may get paid to advertise alcohol (like Kim K did). We’re not sure if it makes us feel more guilty, or if it brings us hope that celebrities may turn out to be good role models after all.
Woah-hoh! Looks like Bieber has grown up somewhat and is developing a taste for expensive women. The pint-sized pop star was apparently visiting one of Rio Di Janeiro’s biggest brothels, Centauros, and photographers rushed to the scene to catch him before he left. The 19 year-old pop star and his friend spent more than three hours in the popular whorehouse — before leaving with two women, sources said.
Andrew Merryweather was a normal boy leading a normal life. That is, until a brutal assault involving eight schoolboys in Claremont left him paralyzed from the chest down. Now permanently wheelchair-bound, Andrew has become accustomed to his new life on wheels – but this doesn’t mean he’s given up. His determination to walk again just might make him Cape Town’s first bionic man.
There’s been plenty of talk about how awesome Elon Musk is. The guy has become something of an enigma, what with him being the CEO & CTO of SpaceX and CEO & Chief Product Architect of Tesla Motors. He’s also in the news for his ideas to turn James Bonds Lotus Esprit submarine-car into a real submarine – and for his grand ideas for the construction of the hyperloop.
A while ago we broke the news that Instagram would soon be placing ads in your news feed. Many people were miffed, but many applauded Instagram for allowing users to close the ad once they’ve seen it, and for allowing feedback about how to make ads more aesthetically appealing and personally valuable. The first of what will be a long line of instagram ads appeared on users’ screens last friday, and it was an ad for American designer Michael Kors.
Kulula.com were the first South African airline to give the comic safety demonstration a try. It was cute, it got the odd chuckle, but soon it got pretty tired and cringeworthy. But let’s face it, it’s extremely hard to take something as earnest and serious as safety precautions and turn it into something people actually want to watch and engage with. But somehow Virgin Airlines have managed it.
There have been sightings of four mysterious ‘barges’ floating in the San Francisco bay area. Journalists and coast guards have gone to extra lengths to find out precisely what these things are, and to whom they belong. Sadly, they’ve managed to find out nothing, except for the fact that they belong to Google, and that the internet-giant is using them for some sort of secret project.
The video of David Attenborough narrating Miley Cyrus twerking at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards (that you’ve been waiting for) is finally here. If you watch nothing else today, watch this.

South African-based ad agency, Joe Public, created this masterful campaign for a school in Johannesburg that teaches in both English and Afrikaans. The campaign features a series of posters with poetry on them – that’s not the clever part though. The clever part is that each of the poems can be read word-for-word in both English and Afrikaans, with only slight changes in meaning.
Leaves. They’ve always been the go-to ingredient when trying to construct an elaborate prank. Cover a hole with leaves, have your mate fall 10 metres into the ground. Classic. They’re also great for hiding in, and reappearing when your victims least expect it. Such was the technique of our latest prankster, who got into the Halloween vibe by dressing as a pumpkin and hiding under some leaves.
You know all about the Big 5, don’t you. Of course you do. It’s the the third term learnt by all South African children after “Nelson Mandela” and “mama”. But you’d never heard of the Marine Big 5, had you? Look, don’t beat yourself up. But do catch up, for goodness sake. This info graphic […]
News of Elon Musk’s plans to completely revolutionise personal transportation with the ‘Hyperloop’ emerged some months ago, but now it’s gaining speed as Musk’s dream slowly materialises. Now, the group that is going to develop the idea has stepped forward with an official name: Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Inc. But you won’t believe the other names that were floating around…
Ever doubted that Google Glass would take off properly? One of those people who dismiss it as futuristic brouhaha? Be prepared to eat your words. Google Glasses are already out there, being worn and tested by an elite group of ‘chosen ones’ or ‘Glass Explorers’. Google has already had feedback from developers, and released a hardware upgrade for the product – and now they’re upping the stakes with an online accessory store.

The interview follows the recent surfacing of photos showing Kerr and Bloom walking arm in arm, after the announcement of their separation. Thus spake […]
Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of River Phoenix’s death – so it seems fitting that Bob Forrest, author of Phoenix’s memoir ‘Running With Monsters’, should come out with a harrowing account of Phoenix’s last night in Hollywood. The book describes Phoenix’s last days as a budding film actor and musician – taking the reader through his final journey to the drug overdose that claimed his life.
Banksy has hordes of Americans drooling and panting over his most recent installations all over New York. In October, he took a 31-day ‘residency’ in the streets of NY, and in that time managed to turn 5 neighbourhoods into one massive graffiti scavenger hunt. His stay caused waves across American media, as he taunted Mayor Bloomberg, criticised the new world trade centre design and filled a slaughterhouse delivery truck filled with animatronic pig and sheep plush toys.
In a response to Apple’s launch of iOS 7, Google has come out with their very own revolutionary new mobile software update – the 4.4 KitKat. Android users will be happy to know that Google hasn’t made as stark of a change as Apple did with the new iOS, but they have made enough of a change to make the software look, feel and perform better.
