This declaration comes with prizes, so stay tuned. 2023 ain’t done yet, and neither are we.
Here at 2oceansvibe, we take the business of declaring summer open very seriously and there is a set of rules we adhere to before the bottles are popped.
Here at 2oceansvibe, we take the business of declaring summer open very seriously. It is both an honour and a burden at times.
If you thought we had experienced everything ‘unprecedented’ that could be experienced in a year, this may well push you over the edge. For the first time ever, 2oceansvibe is declaring summer open by default.
It’s taken long enough this year, given that we’re already more than halfway through November, but we can finally cut that summer ribbon.
This weekend in the Mother City was a scorcher, and the week ahead promises to be much of the same. That means it’s ribbon-cutting time.
That time of the year is officially here, and while it might have taken longer than usual we’re relieved the hot weather didn’t pass us by. Hello summer!
As is the annual tradition which has been running for at least 7 years, it is 2oceansvibe who decides when Summer is open. No external forces (including ‘seasons’ and all that rubbish) influence the decision. Rather, we use a highly scientific algorithm, which mixes the general mood, in conjunction with the upcoming weather forecast.
In a tradition spanning more than five years, 2oceansvibe is proud to declare summer open from TODAY! Click through to see the method we use to make this decision, as well as how much later this year’s was to previous years. To come to this decision, we use the iPhone ‘WeatherPro‘ app and are only […]
2oceansVibe has, for a number of years upheld the proud tradition of declaring summer open. There’s a variety of aspects we take into account to decide when the time is right. We don’t fall into the early September trap of sighting a half week of mid-20s as a sign. No sir! It is far more […]
You know, I gave a talk recently and in the powerpoint presentation was a screenshot of an article from 2007. The article happened to be 2oceansvibe’s annual declaration of the opening of summer. I noted the date – 17 September, 2007. My goodness but it came early that year! Not so three years later as […]
It is tradition here at 2oceansvibe to “call it” when it feels right for us (for you). I remember back in 2007, we called it on September 17. Well it looks like it’s 11 days later this year. Don’t know why – probably a combination of El Nino, global warming and Michael Jackson’s death. Quietly […]
Oh yes! Crack open the shampiz, blow the dust off your shades, rub in the piz and promise not to behave – summer is here my baby and there’s nothing you can do about it! It’s quite evident that summer has begun Camps Bay was pretty empty when I found myself tip-toeing onto the beach, […]

Having just come out of winter, and with a decreased summer load on the national grid, you would expect that a little relief would be in order from our nation’s energy supplier – not quite. After lukewarm showers, green swimming pools and rooms lit with a single lightbulb, we’ll be finding out this week if we’re in for another increase in the price of electricity.
