Bert le Clos, the father of South Africa’s latest Olympic gold medalist, Chad le Clos, has confirmed in a radio interview this morning that his son has withdrawn from the final of the 200m individual medley.
Le Clos swam his way into the final of the men’s 200m individual medley at the Olympic Games just last night. He finished fifth in his semi-final heat, claiming an overall joint seventh spot with a time of 1:58.49. America’s Ryan Lochte finished first overall in a time of 1:56.13.
According to Le Clos senior, Chad will now rather focus on the upcoming 100m butterfly event only. This will apparently improve his chances of winning a second gold medal.
If Chad swam the 200m individual medley, he would be swimming in his second, if not third race of the day, with the 100m butterfly heats and semi-final also scheduled for today.
