Last night’s sunset from The Safe House
March Heatwave Is Upon Us – If you thought yesterday and the day before were too hot, best you get used to it! You’re looking at 30 degree weather and very low wind all the way through to next week, my love. And if you work in town and haven’t made a plan to nip over to Camps Bay for a lunchtime swim, you are a fool. A fool, I said. [iafrica]
Megan Fox “Only Slept With Two Guys” – She’s arguably one of the sexiest women in the world and could make many a red blooded male fall under her spell with the click of a finger. But Megan Fox says her public persona as a highly sexed man-eater is totally at odds with her private life. In a no-holds-barred interview, the 23-year-old actress reveals the thought of a one-night stand makes her sick and insists she has slept with just two men. Oh really? How many times? Nailed! Royal Banquet For Jacob Zuma – Queen Gives Him a Prezzie – The Queen has praised South Africa’s journey of “democratic renewal” at a state banquet for President Jacob Zuma. The Queen made Mr Zuma an honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, and in return was given the Order of the Companions of OR Tambo gold class. They should have given him the Order of the Shower. [bbc]
Is The Porsche 918 Spyder The Hybrid You Were Looking For? – Would you believe me if I told you about a 3.4-liter V8 petrol burner which is combined with electric motors to put out 500bhp, while featuring the mind-altering acceleration to go from a standing start to 62mph in just 3.2 seconds? Topping out at 198mph and offering a very respectable 78mpg fuel economy, this is pretty much the stuff of dreams. [engadget]
Hurt Locker Producer Barred From Oscars – A producer of the war story “The Hurt Locker” will not be allowed to attend Sunday’s Academy Awards because of e-mails he sent urging academy members to vote for his movie. But Nicolas Chartier will receive an Oscar at a later date if “The Hurt Locker” wins best picture. Chartier violated Oscar rules that prohibit mailings promoting a film and disparaging another. He sent an e-mail to academy members asking for support of “The Hurt Locker,” “not a “$500 million film” (Avatar) [yahoo]

Twitter Users Send 50 Million Tweets a Day – Twitter, which was launched in 2007, has enjoyed rapid growth in recent months. In 2007, around 5,000 tweets were sent per day, with that increasing to 300,000 messages per day in 2008. The number of tweets sent last year grew by 1,400 per cent, to around 35 million per day, and that figure now stands at 50 million tweets sent per day. 600 a second.. [telegraph]
2oceansvibe Voted “Most Exciting Twitter Feed” in South Africa – While it’s nothing on Ashton Kutcher’s “following,” we’re very pleased that with over 3,000 “followers,” the 2oceansvibe Twitter feed is deemed by some to be the “most exciting twitter feed in South Africa.” That’s very flattering, thank you. Go ahead and follow 2oceansvibe on Twitter after the jump, and let me continue to entertain you! [twitter]
Toddler Fashionistas – I remember when I brought a pair of Air Jordans back from the States as a kid. Everyone had to get a pair. Was it as progressive as Nick Nieuwstadt with his Gypsy shoes? Who knows. But I can tell you that sales of earmuffs jumped after Saints MVP Drew Brees’ son wore a pair at the Super Bowl. From Shiloh’s tomboy wardrobe to Suri’s heels, check out this gallery of kids with impact beyond the playground. [dailybeast]
Mayor Bans “Sex Bangles” In Schools – A Brazilian mayor has banned so-called “sex bracelets” worn by children to flaunt their sexual preferences from all public schools. The cheap, brightly coloured plastic bracelets – similar to those used in health, fitness and political campaigns – have apparently been re-purposed by students, with each bangle symbolising a different sexual preference. You won’t BELIEVE what the silver bangle means.. [iol]
Avatar in 4D – The smell of explosives, real sprinkling water, wind, motion-activated seats, and 25 other special effects have been added in a Seoul theater for a full 4-dimensional experience of viewing Avatar. Die Antwoord Interview With New York Magazine– You gotta read this whole thing. I spat out my drink when I read this one. Question : White rappers still have a hard time gaining credibility in the U.S. Is that barrier one that concerns you? Answer : This is not a barrier that concerns us, because as you may have noticed, we have fucked this barrier in the face. Whaaaaaaah! [nymag]
U.S. Plans Most Expensive Embassy Ever Built – It might sound a bit absurd to talk of a $ 1billion mega structure at a time when the housing industry is hurting and builders are more focused on survival. Appearing more like a crystal fortress, the new U.S. Embassy would be the most expensive embassy ever built, overshadowing the $700 million sprawling compound in Iraq and $850 million embassy projected for Pakistan. Chef Makes Cheese From Breast Milk – New York chef, Daniel Angerer is making the cheese for proverbial shits and giggles. “Being a chef,” he explains, “you’re curious about anything in terms of flavor” In fact, Angerer says his wife’s milk reminds him of the cow’s milk that he’d pick up, as a child, from a farm in Austria: “It was still warm and it would sour the next day.” Angerer says that two gallons of the mother’s milk yielded almost two quarts of cheese. Wonderful. [newyork]
Knit Me A Ferrari Please – “I created a Ferrari because it is instantly recognisable and the opposite of what people expect from something that is knitted. Bringing Binary opposites together results in the work becoming appealing to a mixture of audiences.” Clever. Crafty. Witty. Causes no harm to the environment! [hurricanevanessa]
