The London Olympics may be crazily over budget, have an insane opening ceremony planned – with live animals – but they have what has to be the raddest official song in Olympic history, “Survival”, Muse’s new track from their upcoming album The 2nd Law. Click through to listen.
It’s a big, sweeping rock-anthem with a touch of Queen, and perhaps even a bit of The Beatles in there as well. Frontman Matt Bellamy says the song was written with the Olympics in mind and “expresses a sense of conviction and determination to win.” The track will be played during the games when athletes enter the stadium and in the run-up to medal ceremonies.
Last month Muse band members carried the Olympic torch through their hometown of Teignmouth in southwest England as part of the flame’s 8 000-mile (12 900-kilometer) journey to the games.
Special singles for the Olympics from Elton John vs Pnau, Dizzee Rascal, The Chemical Brothers and Delphic will also be released during July and August.
