John Smit’s final farewell to the Mr Price Kings Park faithful takes place on Friday 22 June 2012. John will bid an emotional goodbye to those who have supported him over the past 10 years when his Barney’s Army side play the Sharks.
The game is in celebration of the launch of the John Smit Foundation, a charitable trust set up to assist some of John’s chosen charities, including the Bobbi Bear Foundation, the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Fund and The LIV Village.
The Barney’s Army team will be made up of a renowned line-up of former Sharks, Boks and internationals. Legends like Victor Matfield, Brent Russel, Stefan Terblanche and Percy Montgomery will take on a youthful John Plumtree Sharks 15. Barney’s Army has a sound mission:
To bring hope and assistance to those who need it most and to enlist the aid of honourable individuals to help us achieve our mission.
At the heart of our mission lies a determination to assist these 3 charities in all ways possible; to support their honourable and tireless efforts, and to commend their bravery.
The match kicks off at 19h10, and there will be a curtain raiser at 17h00 featuring National Club Champs, Jonsson College Rovers squaring up against the 2012 Varsity Cup winners, Tukkies.
The match promises to sell out, and tickets are R50 for adults, R15 for scholars, with Sharks season ticket and suite holders being able to use their tickets for the match too. All match day proceeds will go towards The John Smit Foundation.
