Being in my *cough* early 30s, I am often blown away by the youth of today and their lack of knowledge when it comes to important pieces of life facts and information. The other day I asked SilverStreak if he was aware of Gloria Estefan’s hit “The Rhythm’s Gonna Get You” – which he was not. Pretty tragic stuff. Personally, I blame his mother.
We’ve been doing some work with Marmite and it turns out this iconic brand has also been ignored, as a result of poor parenting. One can only blame the parents, right? Having been raised on Marmite (you’ll recall this recent article in which I demonstrate basic Marmite bottle maintenece, courtesy of Alex) I am more than horrified at the state of affairs.
Your mom – probably spent too much time on the phone…
On that note, Marmite has provided some other lessor known facts – stuff that you SHOULD know!
Check it out:
#73 – Every June, Castrillo de Murcia, an obscure town in Spain, performs a Baby Jumping Festival, also known as The Devil’s Jump. The occasion requires that every new mother in town place their baby on a mattress on the street, while men dressed in yellow do a flying leap over them, exorcising the infants of original sin.
#60 – Without doubt one of the biggest girl groups in history, The Spice Girls decided to go their separate ways on this day in 1998. Whether you loved them or hated them, their single “wannabe” remains the most popular song released by an all female group in history.
#22 – Bettie Page, born 1923, is considered the “Queen of Pin-Ups” and is responsible for what we know today as “pin-up” girls.
#3 – In 1973 Martin Cooper of Motorola made the first handheld mobile phone call to Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs, though it took ten years for the DynaTAC 8000X to become the first such phone to be commercially released.
#6 – Howard Hughes (died 1975) was known for many things, being rich, making movies, philanthropy and making airplanes. His H-4 Hercules “Spruce Goose” built in 1947 still has the largest wingspan of any aircraft ever built – 97,5m!
God these are awesome – and there are TONS MORE – with a new one every day!
